2023 STAT HIGHLIGHTS
by Todd Haag and Lars Larson
Rookies ruled in 2023, especially at the plate, highlighted by Nick Larson and Emery Hull. Larson (Minnoka) set the all-time Federal League record for single season batting average hitting .667 for the summer. While Hull (East Metro) led the league in homeruns, RBI, Runs, Slugging and OPS. Other notable rookies who announced their presence of authority were Logan Pinckney (Rosemount) who hit .566 and Mike McCallion (Burnsville) hit .500 to go with his three homeruns and fifteen runs batted in.
It wasn't all rookies making noise as we say "Congratulations!" to Joe Witt (Lakeville) becoming the all-time "official" Fed leader in homruns with 14. Emery Hull hit seven this season to lead in 2023.
Two pitchers broke the single season ERA record; Dan Pluff (St Michael) had a single season record 0.00 ERA and 0.27 WHIP - including a perfect game and a no-hitter. Jack Nelson (Minnoka) also shoved by only giving up one earned run all season to post a 0.29 ERA, which is the second best single season record.
In Overall play the Minnoka Grays posted an insane RF/RA number - scoring 189 runs and only allowing 32 to post an incredible 8.7 run differential. Minnoka led the league in batting and pitching in 2023, the only team to do that in recorded Fed history for a full season. Lakeville accomplished it in 2020 with a short abbreviated season due to COVID.
