Nathan Shipe - Mtn. Ridge Head Coach

FROSTBURG — Nathan Shipe has been appointed as the third head football coach in Mountain Ridge history, Allegany County Public Schools announced Thursday.

Shipe will replace Ryan Patterson, who resigned from the position in March after eight seasons.

Shipe most recently served as the Miners’ junior varsity head coach and has been a teacher at the Frostburg school for the last 17 years. He has been an assistant coach in the football program for 14 of them.

“On behalf of the school and community, I am pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Nathan Shipe to the position of head football coach at Mountain Ridge High School,” Mountain Ridge Principal Danny Carter said in a press release.

“He brings experience, commitment and a positive attitude that will continue and build upon the successful program established by coach Ryan Patterson.”

Shipe is a 2002 graduate of Beall, where he played offensive line and defensive line for Roy DeVore. He also played baseball for the Mountaineers.

Shipe inherits a program coming off one of the greatest three-year runs in area scholastic football history.

Mountain Ridge finished as Class 1A state runner-up three times over that span with a 34-5 record and has lost just two regular-season games since 2021.

The Miners were 11-2 last year, their third consecutive campaign with at least 10 wins.
