The Mighty Mites (7 year olds) battled Fair Lawn in an out of league contest. The Bulldogs controlled the game with a first drive touchdown and a final drive touchdown. Xavion Evan’s opened-up the scoring with a long touchdown run, blazing past the Fair Lawn defense. John Rocco Della Fave once again came up big with a touchdown in the final seconds. Kaiser Day was instrumental on offense, keeping drives alive with long runs to the outside. Billy Cunningham was once again a strong game manager, executing plays with efficiency and clean exchanges. The lines were anchored by Sean Ryan, Joel Velazquez, Colton Caiola, Vincent Fuccilli, Liam Innis, Finn Innis, Mason Amorim, Vincent Oszmanski, Tommy Rose, Tiago Serra and Drew Bucey. Joel Velazquez was a stalwart on defense leading the team in tackles, including several for losses. The coaches are so proud of this team, great work Dogs. The Rutherford Bulldog Peewees (8-9 year olds) hosted the Harrison Blue Tide this week. Both teams were stalled in their first drives. On Harrison’s second offensive series linebacker Brandon Byrne broke through the line causing a fumble that Rutherford (3-0) would recover. Shortly after that Luca Ventura scored on a QB sweep. On Rutherford’s next offensive drive they marched down the field and Archer Modica scored on an off tackle blast. The Dogs started the second half with the ball. Luca Ventura went 3 for 3 passing on this drive. Hitting John Ahearn for a seam pass and Antonio Rodriguez for a touchdown. The extra point was also scored by Antonio on a five and out. As the Tide began their next drive Rutherford would force another fumble which was recovered by Antonio Rodriguez. The final score was Rutherford 19 - Harrison 0. Starting this week for the Bulldogs was Jayson Cuce, Brandon Byrne, Vincent Centrella, James DePutron, Jackson Condon, Michael Robertson, Antonio Rodriguez, Luca Ventura, Mark Gordon, Daviel Serra, and Archer Modica. The Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (10-11 year olds), led by Quarterback Wyatt Bohn, beat the Harrison Junior Blue Tide 34-0. Bulldogs (2-1) Luke Barnes scored three rushing touchdowns, including two on long runs, behind the blocking of an offensive line consisting of Declan Moran, Rylan Snyder, Harry Adams, Harrison Byrne, Mark Goldsack, Cristian Acosta, and Michael Gerbasio. Kevin Wilton and Kevin Calabrese each added a touchdown. Charles LaGrecca also scored on a long touchdown run that was ultimately called back due to a penalty. On defense, Kevin Calabrese and Cristian Acosta wreaked havoc throughout the game with multiple sacks and tackles for losses. Mark Goldsack, Brendan Caughey, Harrison Byrne and Desmond Fabiano each added tackles. Kevin Wilton broke up a pass and secured an interception. On special teams, Luke Barnes added an onside recovery. Brendan Caughey and Michael Gerbasio each had long runs late in the second half. The Rutherford Bulldog Seniors (12-14 year olds) rebounded nicely after a lopsided defeat last week. The Bulldogs (2-1) defeated Harrison 20-0 in what turned out to be a hard-fought game. The defense was up for the challenge and came away with their second shutout in three games. The defense was led by Jack Calamita, Manny Arguello, Brendan O’Rourke, Tyler Griffin, Jayden Perez, Owen Burbank, Keelan Cannon, Steven Negron, Michael Cruz, Matt Ventura, and Liam Lindsay. The Bulldogs got on the board in the first quarter after chewing up most of the clock when Jaxson Montoto raced in from ten yards out for a touchdown. Just before halftime, Rutherford was able to punch one in after a few nice completions from QB Connor White. Ryan Wilton did the heavy lifting on the drive and capped it off with a ten yard score of his own. The extra point was converted by Montoto to put the Bulldogs up 14-0. Much of the third quarter was back and forth with a turnover by both teams. Rutherford was finally able to put the game away in the fourth quarter when Wilton scored his second touchdown on the night. This brought the score to 20-0 and that was the final. The Bulldog program is in Elmwood Park versus the Bombers next Saturday.
