Columbia Falls High School wins Hamilton speech and debate tournament

Columbia Falls High School speech and debate secured a tournament win in Hamilton over the weekend, followed by Whitefish in second place.

Columbia Falls amassed 218 points overall for the win. Whitefish earned 165 points.  

“A number of our newer competitors have hit their stride with some of them finishing for the first time in the top eight of their events,” Columbia Falls head coach Dawn Roe said. “We are now more than halfway through our season with just a few tournaments remaining before Divisionals at Polson in January.” 

Teams will next compete in the Kalispell Western Regional tournament on Friday and Saturday in Kalispell.

In Class A, B and C, Columbia Falls High School took first place with 42 overall points, followed by Whitefish High School in second place with 33 points. Across all divisions, the two schools ranked seventh and 10th respectively.

CFALLS WINS OWN MEET

Columbia Falls won its home speech and debate tournament Saturday amongst Class A schools, downing Whitefish and Frenchtown, who took second and third respectively.

Coach Dawn Roe thanked the community for its support, as the high school wasn’t completely available due to renovations.

“The school community graciously allowed us to change the location of our tournament so that we could move forward with the tournament as planned.  Thank you to the Wildcat community for the use of your buildings and classrooms.  Thank you to the Columbia Falls community for the clothing donations to replace our giving closet, and for the donation of your time to judge,” Roe said.
