FORT BRAGG -- Clear Lake (4-2) lost a pitchers duel with Fort Bragg 1-0 with the only run coming in the fourth inning on an infield error.
Cardinals Head Coach Brian Figg said, "This was simply a game of outstanding pitching, and one error proved to be the difference. This was a good learning experience for our guys, and we will regroup and prepare for Kelseyville on Friday."
The sequence of events leading the Fort Braggs only score included a bunt, a double to centerfield, and then, an infield throwing error, according to Figg. "That was the story of their run, and it was the difference in the game," he said.
"We struck out four times, and the Fort Bragg pitcher threw fastballs all day long. He just had great control and location, and we couldnt get untracked," Figg said.
For the Cardinals at the plate, Conner McCrea went 1-for-2; Freddy Olloqui went 2-for-3, while Nick Jordan went 1-for 3.
"Roman Rose had a good game throwing four innings with four hits, and Mike Zimmerman came in for two solid innings throwing two strikeouts with one walk and one hit. It was just one of those games where the first one making the mistake loses, and it happened not to be our night," Figg said.
Up next for Clear Lake
will be traditional rival Kelseyville on Friday night, which Figg expects to be an exciting game, regardless of team records.
