Teams Explanation

CYA Basketball is comprised of Kindergarten through U16 boys and girls teams. There are Competitive travel, Rec travel, and Instructional Clinic teams.

The teams/leagues are as follows:

 Mid Maryland

You can think of this as the Varsity and JV team of Thurmont Middle School just like we have a Varsity and JV team that represents Catoctin High. This is a very competitive league and generally has the best basketball players in the county. Any Middle School athlete (6th-8th grade) can try out for one of these teams. Varsity is typically mainly 8th graders but teams can also have a few 6th and 7th graders depending on their talent level. JV is 6th and 7th graders only. Games are played throughout Frederick/Washington County. If your child wants to try out and then does not make the team, they will automatically be put on a Rec team.

GYBL (Gettysburg Youth Basketball League)

Teams are broken down by the following age groups.

U10 – 3rd & 4th grade (Girls & Boys)

U12 – 5th & 6th grade (Girls & Boys)

Athletes are assigned to teams based on skill level after evaluations. This league is a Rec league. There are no AAU teams or competitive travel teams allowed. Teams are matched as best as they can according to skill level. Registration numbers will determine how many teams we have per age group.  All games played at Gettysburg High School.

MYBA (Monocacy Youth Basketball Association)

Teams are broken down by the following age groups.

U14 – 7th & 8th grade (Girls & Boys)

U16 Boys – 9th & 10th grade

High school Girls – 9th – 12th grade

Athletes are assigned to teams based on skill level after evaluations. This league is a Rec league. Registration numbers will determine how many teams we have per age group.  Teams will travel to play other Frederick County teams.

K-2 Clinic

Clinics will run on Saturday mornings for about 7 weeks during January and February. During these sessions, young athletes will receive instruction on fundamental aspects of the game while also participating in game situations.

Our main hope is for your child to have a good experience and continue to play the game of basketball. If anyone has questions, please feel free to contact league President Cory Wiles at 301-667-3551 or wileslc@msn.com.
