East Boston Knights own Rooters once again

MALDEN, MA- Last night in the campus of Malden Catholic High School, the East Boston Knights look to close out the series with a sweep over the Titans on a chilly night for baseball. Game started a little late as they are waiting for the football players to clear the field to do the usual infield/outfield routine. Pitching last night was Ben McBride for the Knights while the Titans countered with Matt O'Donnell, who is coming off two days rest. With pitchers Brandon Eaton and Sean Hannon unavailable tonight, it is Bennie baseball to the dish as fan favorite Jared Kenney makes his start at right field. Game started out quick and the Knights answered first with four runs in the bottom of the second. Knights add on two more on the bottom of the third to go up 6-0. With the Titans season on the brink, they chip away in the 4th with a two run inning. The Knights add one more to go to 7-2 and the score would remain the same to the 6th. With six more outs and the Knights bench starting to feel two in a row, the Titans roar back and stunned the Knights with a 5 run inning capped by a moonshot into one of the deepest parts of Maplewood by Matt Boleski. With the score tied, the Knights in the bottom six had the big bats but only to get zero on the board. McBride settled down in the seventh. Titans bullpen was solid in the 6th as they look to go to extra innings against the bottom of the Knights lineup. In the bottom 7th, Wojick reached base on a walk, Maza singled, Kenney who had a solid game moved the runners over with a sac bunt. With one out and runners on second and third, Titans intentionally walked Ryan white to set up team owner/second basemen Geoff Harris with the opportunity to seal the deal. With the whole Knights bench standing and making noise, Harris lines one up the middle, run scores and the Knights come through with a walk off win as they captured their second straight RRBL title. In two years of play in the RRBL, the Knights have captured the title both times. Titans showed a lot of grit this series as they refuse to give up but in key moments the East Boston Knights come through. Guys like Jared Kenney, Jesse Stanley, Moises Maza, Justin Woljik, and Scott Dunlop played huge roles in the series. At the end, captain and team owner Geoff Harris provide the October heroics that bear reminiscent of other postseason heroes like David Freese, David Ortiz, Francisco Cabrera, Scott Brosius, and David Eckstein. In fact the Geoff Harris walk off base hit reminds baseball heads of Edgar Renteria's (name not popular in Red Sox nation) hit in the 97 World Series vs Manny Ramirez' Indians with the bases loaded. The East Boston Knights celebrate with another title in their resume.

Knights take Game 2

Another night of baseball ends with the Knights beating the Titans in a slugfest 19-10 at Maplewood. On paper Blake vs Eaton looks like a pitchers duel just like CC vs Verlander. The chilly weather seems to favor pitching. But the offense completely stole the show in front of a sell out crowd tonight. Knights and Titans pound out hits and with the Titans down 10-9 the Knights offense bounce back and pull away late. Eaton settled down giving up zero runs the last three innings. Knights look to close out tomorrow night as they seek their second consecutive RRBL title. Going against Thursday night football encounter between Seahawks and 49ers and baseball playoffs, I think RRBL game 3 finals is already a sellout tomorrow night.
