The Frederick Baseball Clover Hill organization is dedicated to providing the opportunity for local youth ages 4 to 12 to play recreational baseball against other Frederick County teams via the Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth baseball program. Our organization offers practices and home games played at very our own baseball field, Phillips Field, located in Clover Hill Park.

Tee Ball/Coach Pitch is a developmental program designed for 4, 5, and 6-year-old kids. This program is designed to teach young players the fundamentals of hitting and fielding in a supportive team environment. All players who are present for the game will bat in order, whether playing defensively or not. Balls are pitched by the team’s coach from a distance of 15 feet or for the most effective play coaches may choose to utilize a tee.  We will be using Reduced Injury Factor Balls.  Several adult coaches are stationed beyond the infielders in order to provide instruction to the defensive players.

Rookie/Machine Pitch is an advanced developmental program designed for 7 and 8-year-old kids. This program builds on what the player has learned in Tee Ball/Coach Pitch and prepares the players for kid pitch (Minors) baseball. Players are introduced to strikes and outs, thus further developing their baseball knowledge and playing abilities. Balls are pitched by machine from a distance of 36 feet. The base path is 60 feet. An adult coach is stationed beyond the infielders in order to provide instruction to the defensive players. The Rookie Machine Pitch Division introduces the players to post-season tournament competition within their division.

The Minors Division is the kid-pitch division designed for 9 and 10-year-old kids. Players compete with players of their own age and experience level and continue building and refining their fundamental skills while learning game strategy. In the Minors Division, players first experience post-season tournament competition with district, state, and regional levels of play.

The Majors Division is the most experienced level of Cal Ripken baseball and is designed for 11 and 12-year-old kids. Majors Division Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. The game is played on a 70-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 50 feet. In order to encourage the league to train more pitchers, there are rules that set the maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a calendar week. Regulation games consist of six innings or four innings if a game is called.
