2024 Champions

Congratulations to the Rumble Ponies - 2024 Saratoga MSBL Champions

A Brief History

In 2013 the Capital District Roy Hobbs Baseball Association changed thier name to the Saratoga Mens Senior Baseball League.

The Capital District Roy Hobbs Baseball Association had its inaugural season in 1991. The early seasons consisted of four teams including the Yankees, Athletics, Red Sox and Reds. The first managers were Steve Bennett with the A's, Jim Gedney with the Yankees, Rene LeRoux with the Reds, and Ralph Miller with the Red Sox. It's hard to explain what that first season was like, but I guess the best description was a labor of love. A few years later, Jim Gedney became the league Commissioner. The league began to grow as the years went on. Later it became an 8 team league.

Roy Hobbs has developed into a well recognized name in the Capital District area. In 2003, our league saw the most dramatic change with the conversion to an all wood bat league. We are bringing baseball in our league back to the old days where big hits were signaled by the crack of a bat, not by an obnoxious ping. The conversion to all wood took some getting used to, but most players agree that there is no going back.

After the 2009 season Jim Gedney retired from the Roy Hobbs Baseball League. We appreciate everything that Jim has done for this league for the past 18 years. We wish him the best. Thanks Jim!

About The League

The Saratoga Mens Senior Baseball League is a 28 and over baseball league. The league consist of ten teams, all of which are competitive. We play approximately 20 regular season games and then hold playoffs to determine the league champion. The current playoff format has all teams being guaranteed at least 2 more post-season games. The registration deadline is May 1. Regular Season play begins the beginning of May and extends into August. Most teams carry a 15-man roster. Most games are played in Saratoga County.

Perhaps one of the biggest differences of our league from others is the fact that we are a wood bat league. No metal bats are permitted in any game. We find that this greatly increases the quality of play and makes the game more interesting.

The MSBL has a new addition -- the Saratoga Men’s Senior Baseball League.
