Marlins 10 Hawks 2: The Marlins Win it All!
It's the moment Marlins fans have waited their entire lives to hear. The Marlins are your 2022 Corner Brook Senior League Champions. An expansion-era team that had never won a playoff series before this year has now won it all. On Tuesday night, up 2-0 in their best of five finals series against the Hawks, the Marlins put Kyle Brown on the mound to shut down the Hawks bats.
His own team would start by giving him some wiggle room. Matt Colbourne cracked a 2 RBI double to left in the bottom of the second to get things started, before the whole team exploded for an 8 run second inning. Ryan Park hit a 2 RBI single, followed by RBI singles from Carter Park and Zac Fagan. An error, wild pitch, and an RBI groundout from Riley Lockyer would make it 9-0, before Kyle Brown would do some damage to help his own cause with an RBI double.
The Hawks saw a brief offensive burst in the top of the fifth on RBI singles from Fred Cutler and Andrew Flood, but after that it was smooth swimming for the Marlins as the boys in blue completed a franchise-long search for victory. Thank you to everyone who made this senior league season possible, and congrats to the Marlins on winning it all. Have a safe and fun offseason.

Marlins 5 Hawks 4: Fish Swim One Game Closer to Victory
The Marlins won the second game of the championship series on Sunday night, bringing the team just one game away from their first senior league championship win in franchise history. Tonight however, they started the game down. The Hawks found themselves with an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Darren Colbourne hit an RBI single and later scored on a steal of home.
The Marlins would come back with a vengeance in the top of the second though, thanks to a Carter Park RBI single, an error, a sacrifice fly from Matt Colbourne, and a Riley Lockyer RBI single. The Hawks tied it up in the bottom of the sixth, on an RBI single from Ian Griffin and a bases loaded walk to Fred Cutler. In the top of the seventh though, the Marlins would score a go-ahead run on a passed ball in the top of the seventh, before Carter Park shut out the Hawks for the last frame to bring the Fish within one game of the championship, up 2-0 in the series. The Marlins will look to clinch on Tuesday night.

Marlins 9 Hawks 4: Marlins Take Game One
In their first championship series game ever, the Marlins took a key game one win. They took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a 2 RBI double from Kyle Brown, and an RBI single from Anderson Traverse. Traverse hit another RBI single in the next inning, before the Hawks took a run back in the top of the fourth on a passed ball.
However, the next inning saw Anderson Traverse continue a career night by hitting a 3 run home run to make it 7-1.
The Hawks did score two runs in the top of the fifth on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a Mike Simms RBI single, and a fourth run on an error in the top of the sixth. However, Marlins ace Matt Colbourne would settle in and shut the door on the Hawks afterwards, and the Marlins would score two in the bottom of the sixth on Kyle Brown and Ryan Park RBI hits. That offense would give the Marlins a 1-0 series lead, and the Fish will look to take game two on Sunday night at 7 o'clock.

Marlins 15 Monarchs 14: The Marlins are Headed to the Finals!
For the first time in franchise history, the Marlins are headed to the senior league championship. However, the path there was anything but easy. Despite getting out to an enormous 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the second, the Monarchs never backed down and scored four to make it 9-5 after two.
Anderson Traverse gave the Marlins what seemed like a small insurance run in the top of the fourth, but the Monarchs would score three in the bottom half on a passed ball, a Thomas Hancock RBI single, and a Tyler Gardner RBI groundout. The Marlins would take those three runs right back in the fifth, thanks to an Adam Tilley RBI single and a Zac Fagan two run single, but once again, the Monarchs came back swinging just as hard, and after a two run error, and a pair of passed balls, the Monarchs trailed by just one run.
The Marlins scored a huge 14th run on a fielder's choice in the top of the sixth, but in the bottom half, the Monarchs would score two on an error, and for the first time all game, the Marlins were without the lead.
In the top of the seventh, Marlins leadoff hitter Anderson Traverse would get to first on a walk, before an errant pickoff attempt advanced him to second. Another pickoff attempt that went into centerfield got him to third, and while the center fielder tried to get him out at third, the ball was airmailed into the dugout, allowing Traverse to score the go ahead (and ultimately winning run) to give the Marlins a 15-14 win and send them to the championships just as they drew it up.

The Aces would score one on a Brady Sheppard RBI single in the third, but the Hawks would get that run right back on a Cory Lockyer RBI single the very next inning.
The Aces did try to make it close, with Andrew Payne knocking in a run before Ryan Lombard worked a bases loaded walk, but that would be all the runs they could muster, as the Hawks piled on to their lead for the rest of the game.
The Hawks scored 5 runs over the final three frames, capitalizing on some key errors, and Hawks pitcher Ryder Penney would shut the door on the Monarchs' season as he secured his team's spot in the finals.

Marlins 5 Monarchs 1: Fish Take Series Lead in Huge Game Three
The Marlins and Monarchs faced off in game three of their best of five series on Friday night. On Tuesday, the Monarchs had tied the series 1-1, but the Marlins looked to stop that momentum by putting their ace; Matt Colbourne, on the mound. Colbourne would do just that, striking out ten while going the distance.
Meanwhile, the Marlins offense would back him up from the very beginning. Ryan Park hit an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the first, and in the bottom of the third the Marlins would score two more on a Kyle Brown RBI single and a passed ball. The Fish would score a final two runs in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to RBI singles from Cole Porter and Riley Lockyer.
While the Monarchs would put pressure on late in the game, the Marlins would win the game, and take a 2-1 series lead.

The Hawks went into Thursday night's game with a one to nothing series lead, and from the very beginning made their intentions known that they were bringing their all to game two. A pair of errors gave the Hawks an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and in the bottom of the third the Hawks added four more runs on Jason Baker and Joe Wiseman RBI singles, a bases loaded walk, and a passed ball.
The Aces did score two runs in the top of the fifth, thanks to a Mike Cullihall RBI double, and an RBI groundout from Greg Whalen. After that though, Hawks starting pitcher Andrew Flood would shut the Aces down for the remainder of the game, and give the Hawks a 2-0 series lead.
September 6th Senior League Write Up: Monarchs 9 Marlins 5
Monarchs 9 Marlins 5: Monarchs Even the Series
Down one to nothing in the series, the Monarchs had to find a way to bring the offense on Tuesday night. Thankfully, they did just that, scoring three early runs on an RBI single from Tyler Gardner and a pair of sacrifice flies from Steve Shepherd and Brad Brewer. They added a fourth run in the second on an RBI double from Steve Shepherd, and added a fifth in the fifth inning on a Greg Sharpe RBI Single.
In the bottom of the sixth they scored four more runs, on a Brad Brewer RBI groundout, a James Lewis RBI single, and a Greg Sharpe 2 RBI single.
The Marlins tried to make a comeback in the seventh inning, thanks to a bases loaded walk, a two run double from Kyle Brown, and a 2 run error off the bat of Riley Lockyer, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the pile of runs the Monarchs had already put up, and the Monarchs would even the series 1-1.
August 31 Senior League: Hawks 9 Aces 7
Hawks 9 Aces 7: Offensive Showdown sees Hawks Take Game One
The Hawks and Aces began game one of their semifinals series on Wednesday night, with both teams scoring plenty of runs and showing what they're capable of offensively. The Hawks took an early one to nothing lead in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single from Matt Flood, and they added a second run in the top of the third after Fred Cutler hit a sacrifice fly to score Darren Colbourne.
The Aces would strike back though. In the bottom of the third inning the Aces scored one run on an error, and in the fourth they took the lead by scoring three runs on RBI singles from Parker Salyzyn, Ryan Lombard, and Jacob Keefe.
The lead didn't last for long though. The Hawks took the lead right back in the next inning thanks to RBI singles from Fred Cutler and Jason Baker to tie it up, and an RBI double from Matthew Flood to give the Hawks a 5-4 edge. In the top of the sixth the Hawks would add four big insurance runs on a 2 RBI double from Ian Griffin, an RBI double from Jason Baker, and an RBI groundout from Andrew Gillard.
Despite a valiant comeback effort from the Aces towards the end of the game, including a little league two run homer for Ryan Lombard on a triple and an error to make it a 9-6 ballgame, and an RBI single from Mike Cullihall to bring the Aces within two, it wouldn't be enough to beat the Hawks, and the Aces would lose game one of this best of five.

Holy Cross 1 Marlins 0: Crusaders Walk it Off to Win Championship
Today's championship game between the hometown Marlins and the visiting Holy Cross Crusaders was a pitchers duel for the ages. Both starting pitchers; Matthew Colbourne of the Marlins and Riley King of the Crusaders, threw complete games, and matched each other pitch for pitch. Both pitchers struck out eight, and both players frustrated batters all game long.
Each team had plenty of scoring opportunities though. For the Marlins, four stolen bases on the day meant that if a runner got on, they virtually always found their way into scoring position. Scoring proved difficult though, as Riley King kept the offensive juggernaut that is the Marlins' lineup to only two hits on the day, both of which came off the bats of the Lockyer brothers. Meanwhile, the Crusaders found themselves struggling to score as well. They stayed patient at the plate, just as they had all weekend, and managed to secure eleven walks throughout the game. However, a nasty Matt Colbourne pickoff move quieted the run game, and heading into the bottom of the seventh, Colbourne still had not allowed a hit. After striking out the first batter of the inning, Jacob Reid and John Cribb worked walks, and Nick Evans roped a line drive just fair over the head of the third baseman to walk the game off on the first Crusaders hit of the ballgame.
Congratulations to the Crusaders, and thank you to everyone who made this weekend such a huge success!

It was a dark and stormy night as the Marlins and Hawks faced off against one another. Both teams had strong starting pitching performances from Carter Park and Ryder Penney, but in the top of the fourth inning the Marlins made it onto the board first with an RBI single from Brogan Walsh.
The Hawks would tie it up just one inning later, with James Taylor driving in Jason Baker on a sacrifice fly.
Thankfully for the Marlins, a little bit of small ball would ultimately go a long way to securing the win. The Marlins capitalized on some stolen bases and taking some offensive risks to give themselves runners in scoring position almost every inning in the second half of the game. As the rain started to come down quicker, so too came the runs for the Marlins, who lived up to their namesake and looked far from a fish out of water. In the fifth inning Kyle Brown hit an RBI groundout, and in the sixth inning Riley Lockyer scored on an error before Brogan Walsh drove in another run with a groundout.
The Hawks scored one run on an RBI double from James Taylor in the bottom of the sixth, but they couldn't mount enough of a comeback to overcome the Marlins, and eventually lost 4-2.
June 16th Senior League Wrap up: Aces 5 Monarchs 3
Aces 5 Monarchs 3: Stellar Pitching Performances Result in Speedy Game
The Aces and Monarchs faced off on Thursday night, and any fans worried about baseball's pace of play issue had an absolute blast in this game that flew by at a breakneck speed. Parker Salyzyn of the Aces and Rob Park of the Monarchs both had stellar outings, the latter of the two throwing a complete game, and the former throwing six and two thirds before teammate Steven Hynes secured the save and the win for the Aces.
But that's getting ahead of ourselves. Both teams struggled to get on the board, until finally the Monarchs broke the pair of goose eggs on the board with Greg Sharpe scoring on a double play.
The Aces did all of their scoring in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a two RBI single from Rob George and a bases clearing double from Ryan Park. With that, the Aces took a 5-1 lead, and in a game with such dominant pitching, five runs was a fortune.
The Monarchs nearly came back in the top of the seventh inning, with Kevin Farrell and Markus Wells hitting RBI singles. Unfortunately, it came too little too late, and the Aces kept the Monarchs out of the win column once again.
June 15th Intermediate League Wrap Ups
Monarchs 10 Hawks 5: Monarchs Soar Past Hawks
Our Intermediate league got underway on Wednesday night with a double header matchup featuring the Monarchs and Hawks in game one, and the Aces and Marlins in game two. The league, which features Corner Brook Baseball's U15, U16, U18, and U21 teams, saw every age group playing a big role as the evening went on. In the first game, the Monarchs scored the maximum three runs allowed per inning in the top of the first thanks to a Mary Jane Jacobs RBI single, a Joe Wiseman RBI triple, and an Andrew Gillard RBI double.
The Hawks scored one run in the bottom half of the first thanks to a Taylor Burton RBI single, but the Monarchs came right back in the second inning by scoring a run on a wild pitch to make it 4-1 Monarchs.
The Hawks scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the second though, tying the game at four after a pair of errors and a wild pitch. By the bottom of the third, the Hawks looked poised to take the lead with the bases loaded and only one out. However, relief pitcher Shilo Chislett struck out the first two batters she faced to escape the jam and let her team's offense get going.
And so off they went. The Marlins scored the max amount of runs in each of the next two innings. A second Joe Wiseman RBI triple, and capitalizing on a few key errors made it 7-4, and in the top of the fifth a string of wild pitches allowed the Monarchs to eventually capture their first win of the season, ten to five.
Aces 2 Marlins 2: Two Runs Each in Second Game of Doubleheader
The Aces and Marlins faced off in the second game of the day, and while the outcome of a tie may not seem the most exciting, the journey there certainly was. Both teams saw stellar pitching performances from their whole staffs, but especially impressive was the efforts by each team's starters Matthew Flood and Tommy Ford. The Aces scored their lone two runs in the top of the second, thanks to a Zac Fagan hustle double and a wild pitch.
The scored stayed two nothing for the rest of the game, until the bottom of the fifth inning when Aces relief pitcher Jacob Hatcher felt the dial on the pressure cooker get turned up to eleven. Two runs scored on a pair of bases loaded walks, and the game would come down to either an Aces loss or a tie. Thankfully for the Aces, Hatcher could stand the heat and stayed in the kitchen to strike out the final batter of the ballgame, and the game ended tied.
June 14th Senior League Wrap Up: Marlins 9 Monarchs 4
Marlins 9 Monarchs 4: Marlins Offense Continues to be Stellar
The Marlins took on the Monarchs on Tuesday night, and from the beginning the Marlins bats were ready. They scored one run early on in the top of the first by capitalizing on an error, and another in the top of the second when Ryan Park flew home thanks to a Braden Lockyer RBI single.
The Monarchs came right back though, jumping out in front of the Marlins 3 to 2 in the bottom of the third due to an error, and a pair of RBI singles from Steve Shepherd and Thomas Hancock.
Thankfully, Kyle Brown would bring the Marlins back into the game in the top of the fifth with a solo home run to deep right , and Riley Lockyer would give the Marlins the lead later on in the inning with a run-scoring single. From then on, the Marlins scored some insurance runs in the top of the sixth on a Kyle Brown RBI walk, and a Matt Colbourne sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the seventh, with the Marlins leading 9-3, the Monarchs began to threaten. Steven Shepherd hit an RBI single, and with runners on, it looked as though the Monarchs may make a comeback. Thankfully for the Marlins, Matthew Colborune made a diving catch on a hard line drive from Thomas Hancock to secure a crucial second out, and relief pitcher Braden Lockyer would lock the game down on the next batter to give the Marlins the win.
June 13th Senior League Wrap Up: Aces 9 Hawks 5
Aces 9 Hawks 5: Aces' Ace Keeps Hawks at Bay
It was the Hawks who got out to an early lead first on Monday night, with Fred Cutler scoring on a wild pitch. After that though, ace Jacob Keefe settled in and his teammates started scoring some runs of their own. Rob George hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first to score Brady Sheppard who led off with a triple to knot the game up at one. Then a Steven Hynes and Mike Cullihall RBI double and single respectively made it a 3-1 Aces lead. The Aces added on to their lead in the second with a Brady Sheppard RBI double, and in the bottom of the third the Aces scored two more runs on a pair of RBI groundouts from Paul George and Greg Myrden.
Down 6-2, the Hawks spent the next several innings trying to mount a comeback, scoring two in the fourth thanks to a wild pitch and a fielder's choice, and although they ultimately came within one run of the Aces in the sixth inning because of a Fred Cutler RBI single and a steal of home by Andrew Flood, the Aces would tack on three insurance runs late to secure the victory.

June 12th Senior League Wrap Up: Hawks 6 Monarchs 3
Hawks 6 Monarchs 3: Hawks Mount Impressive Comeback to Beat Monarchs
The Hawks and Monarchs faced off in a Sunday night showcase, with the Monarchs searching for their first win of the season. Things looked promising early on, as the Monarchs hopped out to a three to nothing lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a Tyler Gardner RBI double, a Thomas Hancock RBI groundout, and an Aaron Mercer RBI single.
Unfortunately for the Monarchs, it didn't take long for the Hawks to come right back and tie the game up in the top of the second. Cory Lockyer scored on a wild pitch, and two runs scored on a Fred Prosper single. Prosper would later knock in another run with a second RBI single to give the Hawks a four to three lead.
After surrendering three runs in the first, Andrew Flood of the Hawks settled in for the rest of the game, and even gave himself an offensive boost late in the game with an RBI double to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead. The Hawks scored one more run in the top of the seventh on a successful double steal of second and home, and the Hawks would ultimately win the game 6-3, keeping the Monarchs out of the win column in the process.

June 10th Senior League Wrap up: Aces 9 Marlins 6
Aces 9 Marlins 6: Aces Remain Undefeated
Both of the senior league's undefeated teams faced off for the first time on Friday night, and the Aces walked away still unscathed on the year. It was a back and forth game though early on, and the Marlins took an early lead in the top of the first, scoring one run on a Matt Colbourne RBI single.
The Aces came right back in the bottom of the first though, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Ryan Park, and an RBI sacrifice fly by Brady Sheppard.
The Marlins then scored three runs in the top of the second, with Braden Lockyer taking an RBI walk, and Kyle Brown knocking in two runs with a long single to the fence.
In the bottom of the second, the Aces flipped the script, taking a 6-4 lead with an RBI fielder's choice from Jacob Keefe, a wild pitch, and RBI singles from Greg Whelan and Brady Sheppard.
Speaking of Greg Whelan, he pitched a dominant 5.0 innings of relief, and didn't allow any more runs to the Marlins until the top of the seventh when the Aces lead 9-4, and two runs scored on an Adam Tilley 2 RBI single, before securing the win for the Aces and keeping their perfect season intact.

June 9th Senior League Wrap-up: Marlins 20 Hawks 10
Marlins 20 Hawks 10: Have Mercy!
The Marlins and the Hawks squared off on Thursday night in what became an absolute slugfest as the game went on. The Marlins batted around in the bottom of the first and scored four early runs thanks to an RBI fielder's choice, and a pair of errors to allow three more runs to score. The offense kept up for the Marlins in the bottom of the second and they scored two more due to a passed ball and an RBI groundout from Kyle Brown.
It was smooth sailing for Marlins starter Carter Park until the top of the fourth. An error and an RBI single from Fred Cutler made it 6-2 and finally put the Hawks on the board.
The Marlins wasted no time in getting those runs back though, with Jay Miller cranking a three run home run to deep left for the first homer of the season within the league, and giving the Marlins a commanding 9-2 lead.
In the top of the sixth, with the Marlins now up 11-3, the Hawks started their comeback. An error, an RBI single from Andrew Gillard, an RBI double from Aaron Purcell-Pilgrim, a Matt Flood RBI single, a Fred Cutler RBI double, and a two run error made it a one run ballgame, and the Marlins escaped the inning leading 11-10.
In the bottom of the sixth though, the Marlins scored 9 runs to force the mercy rule to come into effect. A parade of singles and a bases loaded triple for Zac Fagan made it 19-10, and Cole Porter drove Fagan in on a fielder's choice to walk the game off and secure the win.
June 7th Senior League Wrap-up: Aces 10 Monarchs 9
Aces 10 Monarchs 9: Aces Stage A Late Comeback to Win in Extras
The Aces pulled off an improbable comeback on Tuesday night against the Monarchs. For the first part of the game, things looked pretty bleak for the Aces, as the Monarchs took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a Markus Wells RBI double and a Thomas Hancock RBI single. The Monarchs then spent the next several innings adding on to their lead, and by the end of the fourth, they had taken a commanding (and daunting) 9-3 lead over the Aces.
The Aces, however, don't back down easily from a fight. In the top of the sixth inning, the Aces scored three runs off of a 2 RBI single from Rob George and an RBI fielder's choice from Ryan Park. Then, in the top of the seventh inning, they managed to tie up the game and force extra innings. One run scored on an error, before Chris Dobbin blasted a double to right field to score two more, and knot the game up at 9. The Aces would then keep the Monarchs' bats quiet, before Greg Whelan hit the go ahead RBI single in the top of the eighth to score Brady Sheppard.
The Monarchs threatened in the bottom of the eighth, having bases loaded with only one out, but a much needed ground ball right back to relief pitcher Steven Hynes provided the double play ball that the Aces were looking for, and allowed them to secure the win.

June 6th Senior League Wrap-up: Marlins 3 Monarchs 2
Marlins 3 Monarchs 2: Everything Goes Swimmingly in Marlins Season Opener
The Marlins became the last senior league team to start their season on Monday night, after facing two straight rain-outs to begin their year. That extra rest may have done them well though, as they got off to a phenomenal start, with each of their first four batters getting hits, including an RBI single for Kyle Brown and their opening day starter Matt Colbourne to give the Marlins an early two to nothing lead. Later on in the inning, Riley Lockyer knocked in a third run thanks to a sacrifice fly to left field. It was a special night for the Lockyer family, as Riley had the chance to play on the same senior league team as his older brother Braden for the first time.
After that offensive outburst both starting pitchers settled in for the rest of the evening. No more runs would be scored until the top of the fourth, when Markus Wells hit a 2 run single with the bases loaded.
Thankfully for the Marlins, that was all the offense there was for both sides, and despite both teams causing lots of traffic on the bases, neither side could put up any more runs, and the Marlins narrowly escaped with an opening day win.
June 5th Senior League Wrap-Up: Aces 6 Hawks 5
Aces 6 Hawks 5: Greg Whelan Helps Aces Come All the Way Back in Extras
The Aces faced an uphill battle all evening after surrendering three runs to the Hawks in the bottom of the first inning. David McCarthy started the scoring with an RBI single, before Aaron Purcell-Pilgrim knocked in two more with a 2 RBI single of his own.
The Aces started to come back in the top of the second, scoring two runs on a Kyle Campbell RBI single, and a Greg Myrden triple to deep center field.
The one run difference wouldn't last for long though, as the Hawks would score two more runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a sacrifice fly from Fred Cutler, and an Ian Griffin RBI single. Making the score five to two.
In the top of the third inning, the Aces managed to tie the game up thanks to an error and a 2 RBI single from Paul George. After that, the game would stay tied for the remainder of regular inning play. Both teams showed off some excellent defence, and each team's pitching settled in.
Finally, in the top of the eighth inning, the Aces took their first lead of the ballgame, with relief pitcher Greg Whelan doing himself a favour and driving in the go ahead (and ultimately winning) run. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Whelan secured the win for the Aces, after Brady Sheppard caught a high twisting fly ball to end the game.
June 3rd Senior League Wrap-up: Hawks 13 Monarchs 6
Hawks-13 Monarchs-6: Colbourne Sets Tone as Hawks Soar to Victory
The Monarchs and Hawks took the field on a chilly Friday night in what was the season opener for the Hawks. In the top of the first inning it looked like the Monarchs, who played their first game earlier this week, may have caught the Hawks by surprise when they jumped out to an early one to nothing lead thanks to an RBI single by Thomas Hancock.
However, in the bottom of the first inning, the Hawks' bats got to work. Darren Colbourne knocked in the first of the Hawks' runs in the game (although certainly not the last, as Colbounre would go 4-5 with 5 RBI on the night). Cory Lockyer would then put the Hawks ahead two to one on an RBI single, and Ian Griffin would later score on an error to make it 3-1 for the Hawks.
In the top of the second inning the Monarchs made a comeback, tying the game at three runs apiece thanks to an RBI fielders choice off the bat of Markus Wells, and a theft of home by Hunter Hiscock. In the top of the third, the Monarchs would take the lead after an RBI single by Steve Shepherd.
That lead wouldn't last long though, as in the bottom of the third inning the Hawks would score a whopping seven runs in the frame to take a commanding 10-4 lead due to a pair of wild pitches, a pair of errors, and a 2 RBI single by Darren Colbourne. In the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks scored 2 more, thanks to another error, and an RBI sac fly by Darren Colbourne. After that, both team's offense's went quiet for several innings, before the Hawks added their thirteenth and final run of the game on an RBI single off the bat of...Darren Colbourne!
In the top of the seventh inning the Monarchs scored two runs on a 2 RBI single from Aaron Mercer with the bases loaded, but it wouldn't be enough to mount a comeback, and the Hawks won their first game of the season 13-6.
May 30th Senior League Wrap-Up- Aces 11 Monarchs 9
Aces 11 Monarchs 9: A Night of Firsts
The Aces and Monarchs kicked off the first game of the 2022 senior league season with a historic night of firsts. The Aces got out to an early lead in the top of the third, scoring four runs off of an error, a 2 RBI Ryan Park double, and a Steve Hynes single. The Monarchs then scored one run in the bottom of the third inning, from a Thomas Hancock double.
After that, the Aces put up a huge inning, scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth inning thansk to an RBI walk, a wild pitch, a Brady Sheppard single, a 3 RBI double by Steve Hynes, and a Mike Cullihall RBI single.
Down 11-1, the Monarchs had their backs up agaisnt the wall facing the mercy rule, and then history began. Hailey Companion became the first woman in Corner Brook Senior Baseball to record a hit, an RBI, and a run with a one out single to left field. Then Aaron Sheppard hit a two run double, another run scored on an error, a passed ball, Aaron Mercer hit a 2 RBI double, and Thomas Hancock capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it 11-9.
The Monarchs attempted to complete the comeback for the remiannder of the game, but ultimately fell short 11-9. However, not before making senior league history along the way with Hailey Companion and James Lewis recorded their first senior league hits.
