About the DWBL

Our mission is to provide a fun, exciting, and competitive experience for people of all ages while playing the backyard game of Wiffle Ball.

The DWBL is a non-profit organization and by generous donations and merchandise sales, we take that revenue and reinvest it into the league while donating a portion to local charities.

Since day 1 the Darien Wiffle Ball League is taking this backyard sport to a competitive and fun league aspect and is reinvented the sport of Wiffle ball. The DWBL is the largest Wiffle ball league in the state of Connecticut

The Story of the DWBL

In 2019 the Darien Wiffle Ball League was founded by the long-time league commissioner Braden Schenck. Braden was fascinated with seeing Wiffle ball videos online with the crazy pitches and insane home runs hit. So in early June Braden along with 13 other Middlesex Middle School students drafted teams and began playing as the Darien Wiffle Ball League. Starting with 4 teams and 14 players total, word about the league quickly spread. By the end of year 1, the league had grown up to 23 players. Setting up an iPhone on a tripod gave the league the ability to do instant replay challenges like seen in the MLB and that content was published to youtube and received many views.

Once year 2 rolled around and the players reached freshman year of Darien High School and the popularity grew. However with the world in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The DWBL underwent its first expansion adding 2 new teams to the league. Playing with masks and social distancing year 2 was a success seeing 37 players participate in the season. The DWBL was a great way to still get people out of their houses in a safe environment to see friends and play the sport of Wiffle ball.

Year 3 in 2021 was when YouTube surpassed 500 subscribers and the league almost doubled in size to 9 teams that year. The DWBL finished year 3 with 60 players that participated in the season.

And in year 4 the league again expanded adding 5 new teams for a total of 14. In 2022 the DWBL had players in 8 different schools around Fairfield County. Darien High School, Middlesex Middle School, Fairfield Prep, Ridgefield High School, St. Luke's School, Hopkins School, King School and Canterbury School. In 2022 the DWBL has a total of 115 players on rosters making the DWBL the largest Wiffle Ball League in the state of Connecticut and the largest in the New England Region.

Since day one, the DWBL has never turned a player down. The DWBL is a space where everyone is welcome, building a unique community within itself.

When Braden founded the league in 2019, no one would have ever imagined the size the league would grow to and the popularity that would come with it, all to continue for years to come. Every step of the way has been a combined effort of everyone collaborating to put on the Darien Wiffle Ball League.
