•MPSS never wants to turn away players for any reason, especially because of financial situations. We have scholarship applications available upon request, as well as payment plans. Scholarships are not guaranteed and require an agreement on the family's end as well. Please let us know if this is something you would like to inquire about.
•WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED? Some equipment has requirements and some can be chosen according to preference. A bat must have a certified date of 2004 or newer and a USSSA stamp. Bats can be very costly and we understand that it may not be feasible for every family to purchase. We have some bats that may work for your player available for rent from the league. Local sporting goods store associates can help you find a bat that would be a good fit for your athlete and it is best to have your athlete at the store with you for sizing. Bats can also easily be shared since only one player bats at a time. A glove is something that each player will need and cannot be shared. Gloves vary in size and so do our athletes. There are no specific requirements for glove type/material/color. It is also recommended that your bring your athlete with you to a local sporting goods store to find the best size glove for your child. A helmet with a face mask is required for all players and due to health concerns, these cannot be shared between athletes. Chin straps are not required but recommended for younger children to keep the helmet in place while running. Again, we recommended that your bring your athlete with you to a local sporting goods store to find the best helmet for your child. We do have some helmets available for rent from the league. A fielding face mask is not required but strongly recommended for the safety of your child. A bat bag is a helpful item to help keep all your child's equipment in one, easy to carry place. Backpacks can also work. This is not required. Cleats are very helpful especially as a child gets older. T-Ball players could get away without wearing cleats. As they move up in the divisions, they may find themselves slipping & sliding while running the bases. Cleats can help prevent injury and avoid unnecessary errors. Players are also required to have water at every practice & game, some like to bring larger, insulated water bottles, but that is not required. Batting gloves are not required, nor is catcher's gear. Jerseys are provided by the league. Pants, socks and belts requirements will vary per each coach and s/he will let you know the color requirements in the beginning of the season. MPSS does not provide any pants, socks or belts. *Please be sure to label all equipment with your child's name.* And as always, PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH ANY OF THESE ITEMS.
•We have opportunities available for coaching and team mom positions if you are interested. This is very easy and we have experienced coaches to help you every step of the way. You do not need to have experience coaching or knowledge of the rules in the beginning. Each team has more than one coach and it is a great, rewarding way to be involved in your child's life and create lasting memories. (Everyone must pass a background check with the Manatee County Sheriff's Department per Manatee County Parks & Recreation for the safety of our players.)

COVID-19 Update
Miss Palma Sola Softball and it’s Board Members are in continuous communication with Manatee County Parks as we closely monitor the CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19 safety precautions and give our best effort to prevent the spread of the disease and keep our community safe.
At this time, face coverings or masks are not required for our players. Spectators outdoors are also not required to wear a face covering or mask. Anyone has the freedom to do so if they feel necessary.
Per Manatee County; there are no longer field usage or capacity restrictions. We will no longer be conducting random temperature checks. Please stay home if you are ill.
Handshakes after the game are now allowed but up to the coach's/player's discretion.
MPSS vendors are asked to have hand sanitizer available & you or your child are still welcome to bring their own hand sanitizer to the park. Our concession stand will remain closed at this time.
This season, we will NOT be traveling to different cities or leagues for any games or practices, nor will other cities or leagues travel to our field. Your child will only play at Palma Sola Park, against our own teams in their age division. This is advised as a LOW RISK on the youth sports CDC website.
MPSS will NOT be able to assist with or encourage equipment sharing this season. Your child will need their own water, glove, batting helmet, fielding face mask, and bat if possible. Please let us know if this is an issue.
All players, coaches and spectators must be fever free for 48 hours, and will not be able to attend if you’ve been in close contact with someone with a positive case in past 10 days. If an individual received a positive test result, they must self quarantine for 10 days and resume activity after their quarantine period is complete and they are symptom free.
If an individual is sent home by their school district or employer to self quarantine, due to a close contact with COVID-19, MPSS is following the School District of Manatee County’s guidelines. That individual is to quarantine for 14 days as an extreme precaution and not attend any games or practices affiliated with MPSS or Palma Sola Park. If that individual has a sibling, parent or child in our league, the sibling/parent/child is allowed to continue attending their games and practices, as long as he/she is symptom free. The quarantined individual is allowed to return to games and practices when their 14 day quarantine is complete, and they are symptom free.
MPSS will continue to update our page as needed and monitor the CDC 'Youth Sports' recommendations. Thank you for your concerns and your cooperation.
