As the snow begins to fall, I know the last thing on most people’s minds is the upcoming spring baseball and softball season. The reality is, for those planning the upcoming season, now begins the work.
Across America, youth softball and baseball programs are on the verge of collapse.
Why? Lack of umpires.
Mogadore is no exception. Over the years we have seen less and less involvement by the community to take on the role of sports official. There are a multitude of reasons for that. I will say however, that it is incredibly rewarding officiating youth sports. Having gone from the role of a parent with no kids in softball, to then coaching a Mogadore youth softball team, to then entering the world of umpiring- it has been a privilege to participate in all aspects of the game.
If you want to make a positive impact on our youth softball and baseball league this upcoming season, feel free to reach out to me and I will put you in touch with our umpire-in-charge and umpire scheduler to get you the necessary training.
Thanks!
C.C. Penrod
Mogadore Youth Softball Commissioner
