Welcome to the home of the

Manheim Township Travel Basketball Association

News

The purpose of the MTTBA program is to support the development of skilled and enthusiastic players through the provision of competitive practice and game environments. The philosophy is to emphasize fundamental skills, team play, commitment, positive attitude/sportsmanship, and personal development of all individuals.  The program does have a competitive objective, so playing time is earned based on commitment, attitude, hustle, and skill development.  It is not an equal playing time league.  Every effort is made to support individual success while providing challenges, which expand player skills and experience.

We participate in the Lancaster-Lebanon Travel Basketball League.  The L-L Travel Basketball League began over 25 years ago with just six teams but has greatly expanded over time.  The purpose of the league is to give 5th and 6th graders an opportunity to play highly competitive basketball against top players in the Lancaster/Lebanon County area.  The L-L League website is www.lltravelhoops.com if you'd like more information or want to check standings during the season.

Tryouts

Please see the 2023-2024 Tryout Information tab for details.

v  THIS PROGRAM IS ONLY FOR GIRLS AND BOYS LIVING IN THE MANHEIM TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT.  IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE MANHEIM TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS.

Team Formation

  • The day after all tryouts complete an email will be sent out indicating if your child has made a team or not.  Either way there will be an email communication sent to all who participated in the tryout process.  This year, that email will be sent out by the end of the day on Friday, October 20th
  • Coaches will be solidified the weekend of October 23rd.

Parents/Players Meeting

  • On Thursday, October 26th we will be conducting a video meeting prior to the beginning of practices.
  • During this meeting we will cover more details about the upcoming season and announce the coaches for each team, review the Code of Conduct, and discuss other items as well.
  • Practices will begin on Wednesday November 1st.
  • The MTTBA player fee is $250.00.  This includes game uniforms, practice jerseys, warmup shooting shirts, 3+ months of practices, 14 regular season games, and a potential playoff bracket in early February.  Players will keep their uniform and clothing.  You will pay your coach by check at your first practice.  Checks should be made payable to "MTTBA".

 Practice/Game Schedule

  • Each team will have two to three 90-minute practices each week in the evenings and possibly some on Saturday mornings.  Practice locations will be in MTSD gymnasiums.
  • Teams may participate in a Thanksgiving or Christmas tournament.
  • Games will start around November 27th and will run through January 28th.  They could be on weeknights or weekends.  Typically most of the games are on weeknights with only 2-4 weekend games.  Schedules come out prior to November 10th.  Potential playoff games will occur between January 2th and February 5th for the teams that qualify.
  • We are expecting our 5 home games to be at the Landis Run Intermediate School Gymnasium.  The 5 away games could be at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex or at other school gyms.  We are playing Lancaster-Lebanon League Schools.  Travel can be anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes away, but most are within 30 minutes.  We are not traveling to Philadelphia, Baltimore, etc.  Each team will also have 4 neutral games scheduled as two separate double-headers to be played at the Nook.

Season Details

  • There is an expectation that the players attend all scheduled practices and make basketball their priority if they are playing multiple sports.  If you do have a conflict you will work it out directly with your coach.  We know that some boys will have football conflicts the first 2-3 weeks of the season.
  • This is not an equal playing time league.  This may be the first team sport your child has played in that is not set up as equal playing time.  All coaches are required to play each player a minimum of 7 minutes, but additional playing time will be earned through performance/hustle/attitude in practice and in games.
    • If your child does not make a team, we recommend the Manheim Township Rec League to develop skills and have fun playing in games.  This league is facilitated by MT "Parks & Rec", not the school.  That site is www.manheimtownship.org and this year the registration ends on November 11th.
  • The coaches will chart playing time during each game.
  • As you see above there is also a lot of practice in this league.  This is designed to develop your child’s basketball skills and prepare them for the next level of play in 7th grade school ball.  This is where most of their development will come.

v If for whatever reason the season is canceled there will be prorated refunds for the season fee.  We will provide an explanation associated with the prorated amount refunded.  There will be no refunds for the $5 tryout fee.

Thank you for your interest in MTTBA.  Our written and expressed goal is to leave your child a better basketball player than when they started, and ensure they have a stronger love for the game.  Please send any questions to MTTBApresident@gmail.com.
