Another shutout for the Cardinals!
Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for some hard nosed football, as the the Cardinal took on the Colts. From the start, that "Red Sea" defense flexed its muscles and showing dominance. After a shaky game the weekend prior, these little juggernauts had their minds set on redemption. In the first half the Cardinals defense held the Colts to less than35 yards total offense. The Cardinals offense performed steady and the teams overall blocking improved significantly. The Birds put up a score in the first quarter for the games only score of the half. Haltime score, Cardinals 6 Colts 0. The 2nd half started out much like the first for the strong defense of the Cardinals, with them once again obliterating the Colts offensive line. As for the offense, the Redbirds remained consistent , pushing out 248 yards on the ground. Final score, Cardinals 20 Colts 0. This coming game will be a true test of strength and commitment as the Cardinals travel away to take on a strong and undefeated Douglas team.

Cardnals and Trojans battle to a tie!!
Saturdays game with the Cardinals and Trojans saw two powerhouses squaring off and finishing in a dead tie. Both teams matched each other play for play during the game with the two teams holding each other to zeros in the first. Then the chess match began as the two teams put up 6 in each of the last three quarters. Due to the leagues time constraint and league rules, the game does not see overtime. Once again the game should have never been that close. As the Cardinals continue to struggle with tackling and could not stop the Trojans ground game. Vails defense came down to Ft huachuca ready to play and their defense was geared up to take on the Cardinals Titan sized ground game, which sees the Birds averaging over 300 yards per game. Vail held Sierra Vista to only a human sized 237 rushing yards. The Cardinals backfield saw its two power back rush for significantly less yards than their current average. Sierra Vista was looking to go to 3-0 on the 2017 season, but would have to settle with a tie. Vail gold advances to 0-2-1, while the Cardinals go to 2-1-1. Now the Redbirds are focusing on getting back on track this upcoming saturday against a scrappy Colts team. Gametime is at 11am.

Cardinals take a hard earned victory after late surge in 4th quarter!
Saturdays game in Bisbee had the 1-0 Cardinals facing off against the the Pumas of Bisbee in duel up until the last quarter. The gridiron battle which took place at Old Historic Warren Ballpark was a high scoring affair with the Cardinals putting up six touchdowns and Bisbee mustering 4 scores. Bisbee definitely came to play on this day as they went up 6-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Bisbee failed the conversion. The 2nd quarter was much different for the Cardinals as the offense finally got rolling, throwing up two scores on long runs and converting 1 of the two conversion attempts. The Pumas managed to put up a single score of their own, while also successful on the two point conversion. At the end of the half, the Bird Gang led the Pumas 14-8. Bisbees' two back threat came out quick in the 3rd, scoring within the first 3 minutes. However the Cardinals from Sierra Vista answered that score with another TD on ground. The quarter saw a defensive struggle between the two teams the final 2:50, with the third ending at a 22-22 chess match. The final and 4th quarter saw the Redbirds return to the field with purpose and establishing dominance on the ground. The Cardinals credit their "4th quarter" conditioning at practice for their ability to find that extra wind. Sierra Vista would go on to score at will and control most of the 4th, with a 3 TD performance and successfully completing a single 2pt conversion. Bisbee was able to put another score up, but was too late. The final 2:00 would see the Cardinals offense wind the clock down and walk away with the 42-28 win. Once again the Cardinals showed signs of the Red Sea defense in this one, but it was the offense who deserves the gold star award, churning for 440 yards along the ground. The Cardinals advance to 2-0 on the season as they head into next weeks practice trying to get mentally and physically prepared for an inevitable war against the Vail Trojans Gold team, who are always a tough team to face. It will also be the opening home game for the Cardinals.

Cardinals open the season with a shutout!
The Mighty Mite Cardinals started off the season with a bang, shutting out theb Cowboys of Wilcox 13-0. That highly touted "Red Sea" defense came out in the first quarter like rabid dogs looking for its prey and keeping the Cowboys out of the redzone their first few series. On offense the ground game was strong, but the Cardinals failed to get the pigskin into the end zone, with the first quarter ending at 0-0. The 2nd quarter saw Willcox's defense come ready to play, with them shutting down the Birds ground game early. However late in the 2nd quarter the ground and pound started to take affect with the Cardinals putting up the games first score, putting them up 7-0 at the end of the half. After a brief rest the Cardinals started the 2nd half much where they left off in the first, putting up 6 halfway through, making the score 13-0 after the failed conversion. The Cowboys just couldnt get anything going still, with the Redbirds defense controlling the pace of the game. The 4th was much like the 2nd quarter with both teams holding each other scoreless. The Cardinals walked away with the 13-0 victory while pounding out over 220 yards on the ground. Equally impressive, the Birds defense forced 2 of the 6 fumbles by Willcox and recovered 3. Coaches were very happy with the output and production of these kids and have high expectations for this Mighty Mite team, continuing the long dominance by the youth Cardinals organization. As they advance to 1-0 on the season and after a good weekend rest, it is time to do some work as the Cardinals prepare to head to Bisbee to cage the Pumas at Old Historic Warren Ballpark.

SV Cardinals look good in league pre-season scrimmages

SVAYFC kicked off its annual league scrimmages Saturday August, 26th 2017. The turn out and the atmosphere was in prime football mode as the four SV Mighty Mite teams got their first look at what the others bring to the table this 2017 football season. The SV Cardinals showed much promise and stellar defense in all three games. What these Cardinals lack in size, they clearly make up for it with intensity, focus and lots of speed. In the first game and the first live series, the Cardinals defense jumped on the board quickly as Jayden Thomas hit the QB and as forced a fumble as Luby Jones Jr. snagged it out of the air and ran it in from about 11 yards for a super quick 6. The RED SEA defense pressured their opponents viciously throughout the day for 11 sacks and over 70+ yards in total losses. The defense wasn't the only Cardinals weapon in effect Saturday morning as the Birds offense waqs on point as well with seven Cardinals getting on the ground game. Amassing over 400 yards on the ground in the shortened scrimmages. Coaches were excited to see the kids came ready for this season. Now the Cardinals look to a week of hard practice to prepare for their first gridiron battle on Saturday, September, 2nd against the Cowboys of Willcox.

Cardinals look to flex muscles in 2017
Welcome to another exciting season of CARDINALS football. This years Cardinals have 11 starters returning from a 2016 squad who finished 5-3 on the season. Those leaving included their starting QB Brandon Brown and many of the Cardinals "Red Sea" defense. Also departing the Mighty Mite Cardinals were several of the coaching staff including head coach Matt Brown, defensive coordinator Brek Maxwell, linemen coach Charles Brown and running backs coach John Monson. Monson left to be the Buena High School running backs and strength coach. The 2017 Cardinals are looking to improve on their 5-3 record from last season with new head coach Richard Rohr. Richard is a hard nosed coach who specializes in defense. He brings 30+ years of playing and coaching experience. Also coming aboard the Bird family is Lance Clawson, Nick Fields and Luby Jones Sr., who bring their experience and skills to contribute to this season. The lone and only returning staff member is Jason Baker. He brings experience and intensity to this hard nosed team. This years team does not bring a whole lot of size to the gridiron, however what it lacks in size, this team makes up for it with speed and intensity. The Cardinals are looking foward to knocking some skulls around this season. CARDINAL NATION is in full swing and the 'Bird Gang" is restless!!! FAMILY!!!!
