Our new season kicks off today October 30th. We are now at U-turn sports for practice, this allows us to have a permanent home and the ability to practice on Christmas Break, school closures etc. We now also have a session for beginners on Friday nights as well. I am looking forward to a new season, and the growth of our program. 

Registration fee of $40 per month includes a pre-season league wrestling clinic, 5 weeks of mini-tournaments from January- February including a league championship with medals. Each mini tournament is held at deep run high school and kids typically get at least 3 matches. So this should include a total of 15 matches or more per child. A league t-shirt at the end of the season, team swag (sweatshirts and/or t-shirts). All of this plus our 2-3 practices per week beginning in November and ending Mid March. As well as an opportunity to make new friends, get tougher, and learn the sport of wrestling. 

At Wildcat Metro Wrestling we strive to spread the sport of wrestling to today's youth. We focus primarily on folkstyle wrestling and building fundamentals of the sport. We are a part of Richmond Metro Youth Wrestling league. We also do take our more experienced wrestlers to outside tournaments across, Virginia and North Carolina as well. 

This club is a merger of the old Wildcats Wrestling Club and the Byrd Metro Club. By putting the clubs together we can have more coaches and also a better overall experience for the kids. We practice Mon, Wed, Fri from November to March. Feel free to come to a practice and watch and reach out with any questions. 

For many people wrestling is a new sport and we love to add to our ranks.

The equipment you need for wrestling is pretty simple. For practices all you need is a t-shirt and athletic shorts or pants. Please nothing with zippers or buttons. For the matches we wear singlets which are provided by the team. There will also be a chance to order singlets as well, that match the team colors and logo. You also need a good set of wrestling shoes. We do have some extras that kids can borrow for the season on a first come first serve basis. 

This year everyone will need to purchase a USA wrestling membership as well. The folkstyle only membership is fine, this ensures that every child is insured at every event and practice, any tournaments including league matches require this. 

Headgear is not required but we do recommend  purchasing, especially as kids reach fourth grade and up or they are active in tournaments. It is required for some USA wrestling tournaments and also for middle school.
