THE ARCHBISHOP WOOD GIRLS SOCCER TEAM has continued its winning tradition since its inception in the PHILADELPHIA CATHOLIC LEAGUE. No more said to establish the fact that this is an almost unbelievably successful program

In the 36 years of the program, the team's record is 488 wins-120 losses and 53 ties which is a win percentage of .780.  In the Philadelphia Catholic League (PCL) the Vikings record is 326 wins-38 losses and 43 ties which is a winning percentage of .856. The Vikings have had 14 undefeated PCL seasons and 6 seasons undefeated overall. They have never lost to 7 of the 11 PCL teams and have never missed the playoffs.

In the PCL playoffs they have 60 wins and 21 losses and have won the most Philadelphia Catholic League Championships (14)  of any school and have appeared in the finals 27 times.

The record against non PCL teams is 101 wins-59 losses and 10 ties. Since they entered the PIAA in 2007, they have appeared in the State tournament 7 times claiming 7 District 12 Championships and appearing in the state finals twice.

The average season over the 35 year history is a record of 14 wins-3 losses and 2 ties.

A program with such an outstanding record is the result of outstanding players and equally outstanding coaches. There have been 3 coaches in the history of the program.

Mrs. Eileen Richart founded the program and led the team during their first 10 years. Her overall record was 139 wins-9 losses and 9 ties. In the PCL her record was 91 wins-5 losses and 0 ties. Her teams won 6 PCL Championships.

Mr. Dick McCafferty coached the Vikings the next 3 years and his overall record was 38 wins-3 losses and 0 ties. In the PCL his record was 26 wins-1 loss and 0 ties. His teams won 1 PCL Championship.

Since 1994, Mr. Bill Cappo has coached the Vikings and his overall record is 311 wins-109 losses and 39 ties. His record in the PCL is 210 wins-32 losses and 30 ties. His teams have won 7 PCL championships and have been to the PIAA State Finals twice.

Since 1981 the Vikings have had 106 first team All-Catholic Players and 165 All-Catholic selections overall. 9 former players have been selected All-Catholic for 4 consecutive years and over 50 have gone on to play college soccer.
