GENERAL INFORMATION about CADET TRAINING PROGRAM:

Cadet Prospects:  Thank you for your interest in becoming a basketball official with CNBOA. CNBOA's Cadet Training Program (CTP) requires a two-year commitment to obtain NJSIAA certification.

Year 1 - A Cadet Member shall complete the CTP, as established by the CNBOA Executive Committee. The CTP shall include an appropriate classroom component and on-court mechanic and signals component teaching NFHS Rules and Mechanics (signals).  The cost for the first year is set by CNBOA annually, and is currently $160 (excluding uniform).  Upon successful completion of the class, a written test and on-court mechanics class, Cadet Members will be registered with the NJSIAA as Cadets.

Year 2 – Cadet Members shall timely register for General Membership status, comply with General Membership meetings, testing,  and other requirements to be considered in good standing; and participate in all CNBOA-sponsored camps/clinics at his/her expense (CNBOA camps typically cost $25-$75).  Upon successful completion of all second year requirements, Cadet Members will be certified to the NJSIAA as Basketball Officials.  Failing to complete the year-two requirements will result in the Cadet being reported to the NJSIAA as "not ready for assignment."

As to year one, CNBOA'S CTP consists of 10-12 classroom instructional sessions focusing on the NFHS Rules of Basketball.  You will also be trained in mechanics with on-court, practical officiating experiences at a local gym.

Attendance is critical. Cadets missing three or more classes may not be eligible to take the final test.  Before enrolling, make sure that you can devote the necessary time to complete ALL requirements for certification -- both years.

The classroom and on-court sessions are typically held at the Boys and Girls Club in Union located at 1050 Jeanette Avenue on Tuesdays and Thursdays -- from 7:00-9:00PM.  Exact Dates will be confirmed by the Cadet Supervisors in the Fall and are subject to change. Passing the class entitles you to be mentored by experienced CNBOA officials during your first season, and be eligible for full membership in CNBOA the following season.

The program fee is $160 and is due and payable before you are placed on the class roster. Refund requests before the first class begins will be granted minus a $35 service fee.

Additional information regarding year-two requirements will be provided upon successful completion of year one.
