Terence Matthews - Director of Rugby/Assistant Coach

Coach Matthews played Sprint Football at Rutgers University before turning to rugby after graduation.  A founding member of the Bayonne Bombers Men’s Club, Matthews spent most of his rugby career at center.  It was the vision of Coach Matthews that brought rugby to Hudson Catholic.  It was also his common sense that hired Coach Miller to be the Head Coach!  Says Matthews, “I believe that the intrinsic values found in the sport of rugby mesh perfectly with the values taught at our high school.  I also believe that rugby is the perfect sport for our student-athletes, many of whom come from urban, multi-cultural backgrounds.  I wanted our student-athletes to experience the opportunities presented by participation in rugby.  I also wanted them to be able to use rugby as a vehicle to open doors to colleges and universities.”  After starting out as a 7s program due to numbers in 2013, Hudson Catholic was able to field a viable 15s squad the following season.  “Participation numbers have remained steady and the quality of rugby has improved, as well.  Over the past 3 seasons, the Hawks have placed 7 players on the All-State teams and at least 15 have been picked for the RCT All-Star squads on the U19 and U16 levels.  Most important, over the past 3 seasons, 4 players have moved on to Division 1 colleges and universities.”  Coach Matthews handles the logistical details, including scheduling, equipment procurement, sponsorship and college recruiting for the program, in addition to his role as an assistant coach.  Coach Matthews is a member of the Bayonne Bombers RFC Hall of Fame.

Coach Matthews holds a Level 200 Coaching Certification from USA Rugby.

Coach Dacchille holds a Level 200 Coaching certification from USA Rugby and is a certified Rugby Referee.

Daniel Prusko - Assistant Coach

Daniel “Flaps” Prusko is in his first year coaching at Hudson Catholic where his primary focus will be on the forwards.  A Special Education teacher in Union City, the teaching skills he has honed in the classroom make him an exceptional coach on the pitch.  Coach Prusko’s rugby roots go back to 1996 where he was a founding member of the Men’s Rugby Club at the College of New Jersey.   Coach Prusko was responsible for TCNJ’s admission to the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union and remains an active member of the school’s Rugby Alumni Association.

Coach Prusko has worked to help establish youth rugby on the grade school level in Bayonne, NJ, as he is in charge of the introduction and education of rugby principles to youth members of the community (Grades K-9) for the Bayonne Peninsula Pirates.

Coach Prusko is a Lifetime Member of the Bayonne Bombers Men’s Rugby Club.  He has a Level 200 Coaching Certification from USA Rugby.
