Charles Devereux enters his fifth season as pitching coach for The Avalon School. He came to the Black Knights after spending 13 years with Landon School, where he helped guide the Bears to multiple IAC championships as an assistant.

In 2012, the Avalon pitching staff dropped a whole run off it's team ERA from the 2011 season, and the staff broke a school record with over 20 pickoffs. Junior pitcher Niko Sanchez, in his first season as a pitcher, was named to the Montgomery County Gazette's All-Baseball second team.

A mainstay within the Montgomery County coaching ranks, Devereux has 11 years of experience working for Bethesda Chevy Chase Baseball and he's coached age groups ranging from 8 years old to 18.

Additionally, Devereux has coached well over 30 pitchers who have continued their baseball careers in college, including eight in the professional ranks. Among those is University of Virginia pitcher Danny Hultzen, who was selected 2nd overall in the 2011 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

A graduate of Magruder High in 1988, Devereux was a stand out pitcher in Montgomery County. In his senior year at the Derwood school, the Washington Post recognized him with an All-Met second team selection.

After high school, Devereux pitched for the Maryland Terrapins and finished as the school's career leader in appearances with 89. That record still stands today and he also ranks second in career wins (18) and saves (15) for the Terps.

He was named Terrapins team captain in his senior season.

After graduating from Maryland in 1992, Devereux signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Orioles and spent four years in their system. He had stops at Bluefield, WV, Albany, NY, Frederick, and Bowie.

His pro career was not limited to minor league ball in the states, and from 1996 to 1997 Devereux pitched overseas in Taiwan and Australia.

On top of his work with Avalon, BCC Baseball and Landon, Devereux is an instructor at The Baseball Zone in Rockville, Md. He also began coaching with Olney Boys and Girls Club in the spring of 2013.
