The Adviser of Football Operations acts as an intermediary between the coaches/parents and the Executive Board. He may relieve pressure on a coach by handing aspects away from day-to-day coaching, allowing the Board and coaches to focus on the Chapter.

The Adviser may also help to stabilize the Chapter and - as an experienced football figure - may also advise less experienced coaches or the Board of a less well developed Chapter.

In contrast, there are many examples of tensions arising between the Board and coaches, often due to questions over the powers of the two positions; particularly with regard to control over transfer policy. This has led to many well publicized and often, highly damaging disputes within the Chapter.
