Russ Shubert
Assistant Coach
Coach Shubert has been coaching in the CIF San Diego Section for over 25 years. He is in his 25th season as a Varsity Head Soccer Coach. He has served as the Head Coach of Boy’s Soccer at both West Hills High School and Hilltop High School. During his tenure at Hilltop High School, the Lancers were crowned CIF San Diego Section Champions in 1993 and Finalists in 1997. In his 12 years at Hilltop, Coach Shubert’s teams won over 150 games winning three league titles outright and earned another co-championship as well. Coach Shubert came to West Hills in the 2003-04 soccer season. He led the Wolf Pack to an immediate league championship and captured two more league titles in his time with the Wolf Pack program. Coach Shubert is approaching the 300th win milestone while his teams have qualified for CIF post-season play 21 times in the last 24 seasons.
Along with his coaching experience in the San Diego High School soccer section, Coach Shubert has fostered his love of sports by working in the travel ball baseball circuit in San Diego County. He founded the La Mesa Blue Sox travel team in 2010 and later worked with Bones Nation Baseball. He became a volunteer assistant coach at West Hills High School in 2014. Along with his baseball coaching, he has played in the San Diego Adult Baseball League for over 8 seasons playing second base for his team. (Cubbies)
Coach Shubert also coached the Men’s Soccer program at Cuyamaca College from 1998-2006 taking the team to the California Community College/Southern California Section Final Four twice. Coach Shubert has a family of three children, Gabriel, Dylan and Isabella, with his wife, Suzanne, of 27 years.
