Jay Scully

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Coach Scully was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and currently lives in Redondo Beach.

In high school, he was a varsity gymnast who qualified for the State gymnastics meet in 2 seasons at Littleton High School. As a collegiate bodybuilder, Coach Scully won the 1986 title of AAU Mr. Colorado in the Teenage division and went on to pursue his career in Exercise Science after that achievement. Mr. Scully joined the Redondo Union athletic program in 2016 and currently holds the position of Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Varsity, JV and Freshmen football, boys Lacrosse, Baseball, and Girls Water Polo.

Coach Scully has worked in the field of Fitness and Conditioning for 30+ yrs and has operated his own business for the past 23 years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Colorado State University in 1990. He holds several professional credentials including USAW Weightlifting Coach level 1, ACSM’s Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP), NSCA’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), NASM’s Corrective Exercise Specialist, as well as being a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in the state of California.
Coach Scully is passionate about teaching young athletes the importance of training with integrity by focusing on quality, not just quantity. He instills a mindset that small details are vital to success in the weight room which will lead to success in athletics and in life. It’s a position of great influence and responsibility, which is what he loves most about coaching high school athletes.

Coach Scully has been happily married for more than 20 years. He and his wife have a 16 yr old daughter and a 19 yr old son. Both children attend(ed) RUHS and they are proud to be a part of the Redondo Union family.
