Rookie Ball Information
Rookie Ball is open to boys & girls in Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. There are no exceptions. Rookie ball is a developmental league in which a manual pitch machine will be utilized. No score is kept. The rules will progress throughout the season so that they will be the same as Danbury Youth Baseball C league for the final weeks of the season. Weekdays will be reserved for a 45 minute practice. Coaches may extend it to an hour if they wish. Games will be on Saturdays. Your practice day will remain consistent throughout the season. The fee is $65.00 before Aug 5th

The season will run from Sept 3rd- Oct 15

2019 Rookie Ball Rules

First 2 weeks – Batters are provided 5 hittable pitches from the manual pitch machine that will be operated by a coach. If no contact is made after the 5th pitch the player will hit from the Batting Tee. There will be no outs during this time frame; the inning is complete when all players have batted. Position your players in the correct infield positions, , with the exception of catcher and have 4 outfielders The player that is acting as pitcher must be behind the pitching machine at all times. The remaining players should work with a coach in the far outfield working on baseball fundamental drills. Rotate players each inning. You will play 3 innings.

Next 3 weeks – Batters are provided 5 hittable pitches from the manual pitch machine that will be operated by a coach. If no contact is made after the 5th pitch the player will hit from the Batting Tee. There will be outs only at 1st base, if an out is recorded the player returns to the bench. A player has the ability to advance to 2nd base only if the ball is batted into the outfield and is still in the outfield when reaching 1st base. An inning is completed when all players have batted, regardless of how many outs have been recorded.

Final 3 weeks – Batters are provided 5 hittable pitches from the manual pitch machine that will be operated by a coach. If no contact is made after the 5th pitch the players turn at bat will end and the player will return to the bench. This does not count as an out. If the batter foul tips the last pitch or if the ball is hit foul, the batter is given an additional pitch.
· An inning is completed by either the batting team completing the batting order or the defensive team recording three outs in the field of play.
· Runners may only advance one base on batted balls kept in the infield. For balls hit into the outfield, base runners may advance as many bases as possible. If a play is made and the runner or runners are put out, the out or outs will stand. Runners are not allowed to advance once the ball reaches the infield dirt, if a runner is less than half way to the base he must return.
• Base runners do not advance on throwing errors. Base runners may only advance as the result of a batted ball.
• There is no stealing or leading. A base runner may leave the base upon the batter making contact with the ball.
· No score shall be kept during the game
