Manager and Coaches Code of Ethics 2025

The role of the coach is to develop young athletes in their baseball skills & knowledge of the game.

Furthermore, the coach must also guide them in their evolution as responsible young people. Every coach is entrusted with this extraordinary responsibility to teach, support & counsel their player
1. I will hold at least one practice per week excluding pre-game practices. I will be organized, dedicated & patient in teaching my players,

2. I will uphold the honor & dignity of the game by my exemplary actions of sportsmanship & leadership. I understand that my conduct is representative of the WPYB & as such it must be beyond reproach. I will take full responsibility for my actions, and the actions of my assistant coaches, my players & their parents.

3. I will uphold & abide by the WPYB Constitution, By-Laws and the playing rules for my league. I will teach them to my players, assistant coaches & fans.

4. I will treat every player with great care & respect. Knowing that a youngsters ego can be delicate, I will strive to always protect their self-confidence & self-esteem.

5. I will never place winning above teaching baseball fundamentals & rules, and instilling in my players the higher ideals of sportsmanship & citizenship. I will approach every game as friendly competition.

6. I will take the time to learn baseball fundamentals so that I will be a more effective coach in instructing my players.

7. I will make my team within WPYB my coaching priority.

8. I will support a parents decision to withhold their child from playing due to grades.

9. I will maintain a safe, healthy & enjoyable atmosphere for my team.

10. I will take the time to patiently communicate my coaching beliefs and decisions. I will also carefully listen to the concerns of players & their parents and consider their point of view in my final decisions.

11. I will refrain from gossiping and spreading rumors. I will also refrain from threatening, defamatory and/or critical comments about WPYB and other managers, coaches and/or players. If I have concerns or questions about the organization or its
members and/or activities, I will contact an official of WPYB to discuss them in a positive, responsible and productive manner.

12. I will respect the calls & decisions of umpires. If I disagree with or question a call, I will call time-out and calmly discuss my point & respect their final decisions.

13. I will strive to maintain fairness in every game. I will work to avoid protests. I will certainly keep my competitiveness in check so that I am never ejected from a game. I will tactfully restrain my players and fans.

14. I will not smoke or drink alcoholic beverages during a practice or game. I will encourage my players to refrain from smoking and using drugs and/or alcohol.

15. I will actively & enthusiastically advocate all fundraising efforts. I will keep my team's fundraising organized (not accepting cash), and turn them in on the specified dates. I will encourage parents to support fundraising & to volunteer their time in
promotion of other WPYB activities.

16. I will protect my equipment & keep it in good repair. I will promptly return it to the Equipment Manager upon request. I will also return all uniforms by the designated August date.

By signing below, I acknowledge that I read all of the points of this Code of Ethics for Coaches. Furthermore, I agree to abide by all of these points, and that I may be dismissed as a manager or first assistant if I fail to abide by them.
