It is with cautious optimism and delight that Braehead have taken the steps to put ice down at the Arena for Paisley's ice users. If we had waited for Renfrewshire Council to sort something out, we would be having our opening game at the repaired Lagoon on the same night as Ronnie's 80th birthday party............
I know that there has been some concern over the cost implications, in that it would be more expensive. I think we have to look positively at this, in that there were will be no more treksdown the M77 which save most of us on fuel, and with us being back near our home the attendances at training will surely improve. Add to that, the bragging rights to the other teams about their crappy rinks!!! I know for me it would make the difference between making training once a month or making it every week.
Just to give a wee bit perspective of costs elsewhere, the team Fraser & I played at before, Edinburgh Stingers, charge £10 for an hour's training at Murrayfield, so our tenner for an extra half hour is pretty good value. So if it was bit dearer at Braehead I'm sure it would be something most of us would be happy to deal with, as long as it was a reasonably modest increase.
So, my final point for this message would be - how much would you be prepared to pay for 90 minutes training at a top-quality facility? Your answers will be valuable for the committee I'm sure for their planning ahead. The future's looking better !!!!

Mind you, if enough folk come to training each week, then it may not actually need to cost us any more - I wasn't trying to get the training cost hiked up !!!!! Very much wait & see what happens when it happens.

No less shandies will be had Donny, we may just need to increase the voddy&redbulls and pull allnighters!

Seriously tho lads, this time HAS NOT been confirmed. Ronnie and I are attending the meeting on Wednesday night and Ronnie will put the time up as soon as he gets home. If anyone has any suggestions or queries, send me an email and I will get back to you - g.beaton@strath.ac.uk

Leave the shandys until after the training at 9.00pm on Saturday - then welly into a big liquid breakfast. Then you'll have from 12.00 midday 'till 6.00 pm to sobber up for another session (bevvy) on Saturday night!!

The early training time might be the best of a bad lot, since reccy teams usually seem to get what the senior team & juniors don't want. Better an early weekend time that a late midweek one like at Killie.

personally, I think early saturday am is not a bad time - I'd rather play hockey tired or with a hangover than start a long week of work after the late night sunday (or thursday) hockey sessions we had. Also, think of it this way - it interferes with less actual drinking/socialising time, and for those of you guys that will suffer most, you'll be able to go home and back to bed for a while afterwards! (some of us can only dream of this). anyway, it'll be interesting to see what happens...

The only thing with a time that early is that it is going to be difficult to get teams to travel for home games as they will have to be there for 6.30. it will be ok for local teams but if you want to play a variety then it could pose problems.

There is a possibility that we can glean extra time slots to accommodate teams coming from afar. I put this to the Braehead management at the meeting on the 10th and they indicated that this may be possible.

If this remains the main time slot I'll only be able to make every 3 practices out of 9 as it falls between my day and nightshifts.

A later time would be ideal.
