I have been cheerleading for all my life, ever since I was five years old. I always loved and I still do. Since I was very little I have always felt close with my squad, and other squads in our organization as well. Each year we get closer and closer. I can tell my squad anything, because it’s like we’re one huge family. Every year our “family” gets bigger and bigger, which don’t get me wrong, is a fantastic thing. But when it comes to Pop Warner, we are limits the amount of cheer participants per football team.
Last year three out of seven of our cheer teams were sent off to Princeton, because we only had three football teams. I was one of them three teams that got sent off, it was a good experience, but I was looking forward to rejoining Monroe this year as a Wolverine. Last year our team executive board went through a lot for us and we were turned down. This year, when they went to the “big meeting” they were turned down again! Monroe cheer is our passion, our place to just let loose, and be who we want to be.
Many of the girls from squads, coaches, other towns, our executive board, and many others are doing as much as they can to help. Monroe cheer is “the experience of a life time” and we are hoping it can stay that way. Switching us girls to Princeton brings a lot of spirits down, makes girls feel like they are not being treating fairly. We are not trying to get treated above others, or get our own special attention, that’s not the point, we just want to be able to sign up for one team and stay on that team.
As I write this letter, I think, why is this rule this way? We do not have many football teams because Monroe has other sports to offer for boys. But from August to December, Cheerleading is the only sport for girls. The thing is, we don’t only sign up for cheerleading because it’s the only sport around, and we cheer for a reason, which is not just for the title either. We cheer because we know in our hearts every time we go to a practice, or a game, or even a competition the whole time we will be with our other squads, girls on our squad, and coaches that we really love us as a family. Cheerleading for Monroe means as whole lot to us, as you can see. So we are just asking for one thing, one rule to be changed, so we can have the experience of a life time.
Sincerely,
Jessica DeCarlo

Jessica what a beautiful letter. You expressed the feelings of a lot of girls. We are not just about winning. The program has grown as well as our town we just want to stay together. One rule change is all we want. We just want that second team on any level to be a cheer squad no more than that. Football can have football so cheer wants to have cheer. No special rule we just want to be treated the same and have the same opportunity. Thanks for writing tell more girls to do the same!
