WOW, I cant believe a team of grown men actually quit a baseball game because they were getting beat. Pathetic doesnt even come close to covering it. Its a game of baseball you will win and loose. I can say this because we literally got stomped by the Dodgers two games last year and sat thru every inning of it and FINISHED what we started. Scott this isnt intended towards you I respect your apology, although I would have dropped some guys off my team for quitting on me but you handled it as classy as you could I guess. As for you other tampon wearing douchebags, this is intented for you. You have no integrity for the game of baseball or any self repect. Ive seen first grade girls on a playground with more balls than you, atleast they will stand up to a bully. We took our loss in game one (with the bullhorn sounding and you guys greeting at the mound like you won game 7 of the NLCS) and we did something about it. We completely whipped your A****. And how do you respond you QUIT. Get real, you think now we arent going to try and do the same thing in our rubbermatch, or if we get up big are we supposed to throw in the towel and shut it off. I think you all know the answer to that, with you guys quitting my personal goal next game is to score 40 if you will finish it out. You are grown men, grown some balls and finish what you start. P.S. sorry for running up the score didnt mean to hurt your feelings.

I was going to come on here and apologize again to you guys, but I see Tallman beat me to the punch. I completely understand your guys frustration, and you should be upset, but it was a freak occurence. We have been in that situation 3 times this year where we havent had a good showing in the second game of a double header, but we've never quit. That still doesnt make it OK.
It was pushing 100 degrees today...it was 15+ after five, and my guys were just ready to call it. It's not my preference to do that, but we had a couple guys who were getting sick from the heat and we were already shorthanded on the day, which got worse when two guys were forced to leave after the first game for personal stuff. I guess I need to follow your example and buy a water jug.
As far as our postgame celebration after the first game, I'm not a fan of the bullhorn...its a little too showy for my taste, but that was one of my guys parents. You have to understand that this team is not used to winning. It is a very big deal to a lot of guys when we do win, especially with how much work we put in to get better this past offseason. This team was a punching bag for the past 5 seasons, and it's going to take time before I can develop a better culture. Outside of the bullhorn, I dont think celebrating at the mound was too much.
Our play on the field has shown I have gotten the team to take some major strides this year, and it will only continue to improve year to year. Despite some of you claiming I was hyping the Indians up as a championship team, I set some pretty modest goals for us, and we are well on our way to achieving them.
As far as my relationship with you guys, its fine if some of you dont like me, but I do ask you show a little more respect sometimes. I try to be as respectful and classy as I can, which I continued today. While calling the second game was wrong on our side, you guys have crossed the line a few times as well. For the most part, your all good guys and, like us, just want to play baseball. Lets leave it at that.
And Rusie, I finally understand why you dont bat yourself and I don't blame you for what I felt was less playing time than I deserved. Its a lot harder than I imagined to keep a bunch of guys happy, and keep everyone involved. Looking back, I got a pretty fair shake overall. You do a real good job and I've tried to model a lot of what I do with my team around how you handle your guys.

Can't blame em quitting on the heat. Hello we played in it and we should have been a little more tired from the merry go round we were riding in game 2. Again not taking anything from your game 1 win, you earned it. But you team quitting game to was a total Bi*** move. Atleast you hit your top half of the inning not sure what was worse.

Things I leatned on Sunday...First, we aren't good enough to put it on cruise control and beat anybody. Second, Friedline, you trying to turn this team around, while noble, is a pipe dream. You have get rid of anyone associated with the Cubs. You don't seem like a bad guy, but if you have trouble getting guys to finish a game, you have the wrong guys. It was hot for everyone at Manual, and also everyone around the league. You are going to have to take your lumps this first year, and forfeiting a game is not cool. We all paid to play baseball, and your team more or less took money out of our pockets. That being said, from what I've heard about you, you sound like a nice enough guy who would have finished this game out. So, no ill will towards you. As for the bullhorn/celebration at the mound: I get you guys haven't won a lot of games this year. But act like you've been there before. It was a little annoying, and those two combined with a close loss and hot conditions got us pretty riled up. Hence the ten spot in the first inning. Last thing, how did your guys handle getting no hit by the Dodgers? It was hot as sh!t last weekend too.

We took our beating from the Dodgers. I got rid of all the garbage from past Cubs teams, but it is unfair for you to assume that anyone associated with those teams is a 'stroke'. I retained 4-5 guys that are pretty decent from that team, and everyone on my team this year can at least hold their own, which is why we have been much more competitive. Yesterday looks bad and I would have liked to keep playing, but we had guys getting sick in the dugout, including myself. I'm sorry. It wasn't right, but it wasn't as blatant a quit as you guys feel it was, and its nothing that has happened before. It's my fault for not doing a better job keeping my guys hydrated.

Alright man. Hopefully everyone is feeling better for your next week. Get some electrolytes provided for the team and go get 'em. Make sure next time you play at Manual you get there early so you can get the air conditioned first base dugout. And try to remind your team of grown a$$ men that when its hot and you have two baseball games to play, it is a good idea to bring some water or maybe even some gatorade. Common sense goes a long way.

I think everyone has pretty much come to an agreement on two things about yesterday the league ended up looking really bad and it was an unsatisfactory day of baseball for everyone involved. We got beat the first game by a team that simply wanted it more than we did. The second game was a polar opposite and my team wanted to make sure we at least got a split. However, The Indians seemed content to take their win and deny us the chance to finish out our win. I'm not going to argue that the outcome was still in question, but like I said at the game, I had a pitcher that still needed to throw. The guy had sat there for 3 hours, waiting his turn to throw and was supposed to throw the final two innings. This is a guy who is playing in college and is still trying to get better every week. I wish I had handled the situation with as much class as he did. He was the one who really got robbed and still managed to take it in stride. Forfeits/surrenders make the league look bad and set it back by turning off current players and discouraging others who hear about debacles like yesterday. Scott has done a lot for the Indians and like I have told him before, he will be a good manager and the league needs more guys like him, who put in the effort, to run teams. Unfortunately, there are still quite a few guys on that team that may be incorrigible. Hopefully, Scott can continue to build on what he has started. In the strangest and most ironic of situations, I lost total respect for the Indians while gaining some for their manager.

I appreciate the kind words, but judging from all the disparagement that has gone on this forum about me and my team, saying you lost all respect for the Indians doesnt move me to much, because I'm not sure there was much there to begin with. My guys were more chippy that usual because they were aware of some of the talk that has gone on. Having played with you guys, I know you guys like to talk and have fun, and thats fine, but it's not always interpreted to be in good fun by everyone.
On Jared running into the SS, I dont have a big problem with it, but some guys felt in a 15 run game there really wasnt much need for contact. It felt more like you guys trying to take first game frustrations out physically rather than just keep smacking the ball all over the field.
While you are entitled to you thoughts on yesterday, I dont think it was a complete debacle for the league by any means. It doesnt exhonerate us, but fairly recent rules, the game would have been called for 15 after 5 anyway. We were down from 12 guys in the first game to 9 in the second for legit reasons, and 2 guys got sick. You guys have a deeper team than I do and its a lot easier in the heat when your sitting in the dugout spanking the ball all over the field.

I kind of get the situation you are in here, Scott, but you also have to understand our stance. It was hot on both sides of the field, we only had a couple guys on our bench, and you guys walked off the field in the middle of an inning. Nothing will really help our view of those guys after that.

Im assuming the guys who were complaining about that play were the same guys who refused to take the field. So I am guessing their baseball IQ wasnt very high to begin with, so I wouldnt expect them to understand that its a good CLEAN baseball play to shied a fielder without making contact with him in order to give your runner a split second to beat out that play. Enough said we will see you guys in a couple weeks and in the words of Bart Scott I "CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!"
