| Interference/Obstruction Players can line up in the base paths. They cannot obstruct a runner attempting to advance to a base if they are not fielding a ball, so if they are not making a play, they have to move. If there is a play being made, the runner can go behind the fielder as to not interfere. Rule 9.7.g “Batter-Base Runner Is Out” explains the base runner may run outside the 3 foot-line to avoid a fielder making a play. And she would not be called out. If the baserunner runs into the fielder who is trying to make a play, the base runner is “out” for Interference. To Josh's point of 2 girls on the base. If they are occupying 2nd with no play being made, it is obstruction and they girl is safe on the bag. If she continues and is thrown out, a coach should challenge two girls being on 2nd obstructing the girl from advancing to 3B. See Handouts.
