Quinn Construction Blanks South Park
On paper, this was the best DNL matchup of the year so far. Randy Dobnak vs. Phil Mary. Dobnak just finished a highly successful career at Alderson Broaddus University. Phil Mary just came off a stellar sophomore season at Mt. Union where he was 10-0 with a 0.81 ERA. Mary was second in the nation in ERA and was named the Mideast Region Pitcher of the Year by the ABCA and D3baseball.com. Both pitchers were impressive tonight, but the difference maker was Jim Pasquine. Pasquine got Dobnak with a 2-run HR in the first inning to give the Mudcats an early lead. In the third inning, Pasquine came to the plate again and hit a missile into the right center field trees for a solo shot that made it 3-0. The Mudcats added two more runs that inning on Anthony Girdano's second double of the game making it 5-0. Mary was impressive in his DNL debut. In his four innings of work, he allowed no runs, 1 hit, and struck out 6. Corry Ryan finished it off by pitching the last three innings. Ryan allowed no runs on 1 hit and struck out 4 to register the save.
