The Lions defeated the PDL Thunder Bay Chill by a score of 1-0 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The Lions outperformed the hometown Chill, and were rewarded for their efforts in the 58th minute of the match. Lion midfielder Eddie Keeper won the ball on a strong tackle in the centre of the park, leaving the ball for Frank Buoncore, who displayed a magical touch, looping the ball over the outstreched Chill keeper. The Lions outshot the tired looking Chill who played the previous night in Iowa, 12-5 in the match, and the frustration for the Chill was displayed by a vicious elbow on Lions midfielder Vince Ferlaino in the 70th minute of the match. The referee dismissed the frustrated Chill midfielder. In the 80th minute the Chill had their best scoring chance of the match, when a shot struck the goal post, only to be cleared away by the Lions back line. In the games 88th minute, Lion forward Steve Rebizant found Eric Baranowski all alone in front of the Chill net, Baranowski's effort was turned back by a dazzling save by the Chill keeper. Sean Sylvestre recorded the shutout in goal for the Lions.
The Lions were without veteran starters Sean Margison, Jorge Aguirre, Matt Johnson, and Steve Sawatzky, and rookie David McPhail, but were rewarded with strong efforts from the club's newest additions Nevin deKorompay, Frank Buoncore, Vince Ferlaino, and Eric Baranowski. The Lions will now continue to prepare for the upcoming MSA Cup and completion of the MMSL regular season over the next eight weeks.
