I am a volunteer for the Oriole Advocates and I am contacting the recreation councils in the area for our Cardboard to Leather Program. The Oriole Advocates ( www.orioleadvocates.org ) are a group of diverse individuals from all walks of life with one thing in common: a love for the game of baseball. We are involved in various local charities and contribute to inner city baseball leagues as well as youth baseball in general. Through our Cardboard to Leather (C2L) program, we collect baseball equipment that would otherwise be discarded and send it to countries where there is a real love for the game but lack of equipment to play it. Collected equipment has been distributed in Afghanistan, Aruba, Belgrade, Belize, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. In 2011, we packed 24,000 pieces in 280 boxes that were shipped in two 40 foot containers that benefitted over 1800 children. Some of the equipment was shipped to Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
