January 7, 2010 5:38:50 PM Entry ID: 1748348 | Analysis: UP vs. La Salle La Salle is the undisputed underdog. Their lack of inside presence will hurt them more. Add to the fact (as one observer noted before) their combined backcourt age of 120 yrs old will not gonna help either. However, if they consistently make their outside shots and occasionally pound their big guys inside to make the twin tower of UP work harder, they have a chance to make the game a little bit competitive compare to the last two games these teams met. They just keep in mind that there's no need to double or triple team Hector "the director" cause he can only make a crisp or no-look pass on a teamate for an AND-1!!!! Most importantly, Kobe should know how to create opportunities for others not just trying to dunk the ball for a show or shoot a 1/2 mile three-pointer... As for the UP, UPset might just be around the corner. Don't be overconfident. Don't rely to much on a single player to dominate the scoreboard. UP's defense is seems to be the number 1 in this league so just continue to be more potent. Most importantly, be friendly to the REF! Advantage - UP San Beda vs. Letran Letran is one of the heavy favorites during the starts of the season having a complete arsenal (inside-outside players). It seems that they are not playing to their initial billing mainly because of the injury to their center. But it happened during the start of the season so they should have adjusted by now. Though they easily diposed Letran during their elimination matches, San Beda should worked doubly hard with Letran's newly-created EBB (edgar-bong-bubot). Matchup wise, they might be even. San Beda's main weapon is their familiarity and heart (di ako nagsabi nyan!). They should extend their perimeter defense coz majority of their opponents are outside shooters. They need to continuesly find an open teamate coz the defense will concentrate on their two major players. Advantage - San Beda Ateneo vs. UST UST is in a losing streak right now because some of their major players are not around. They even have a major blunder at the end of the game vs. La Salle. This team also considered as a favorite at the start but became inconsistent lately. With the complete lineup, they can matchup with the Triple Tower of Ateneo. A younger backcourt gives them an advantage to their opponent and as well as their panakot! Ateneo is the hottest team before they lost to San Beda last time. Though they came back to earth, most observers noticed that their lost to Beda might be a "bigay" becoz one of their players is a former Bedan. But watch out come playoff time, this team will give a matchup problems to their future opponents once they past this one. Their backcourt players should work double time for their big players to maximize their strenght at half court. Keep in mind that Ateneo still has one of the most decorated/awarded/bemedalled and future Hall of Fame player of LigaLeague in the presence of Mike G!!!!!
