U6 Division (under 6) - $80 one child (family rates apply to more than one)

** Family rate is good for up to 3 children.  Only one pair of raffle tickets will be required per family.

RAFFLE FUNDRAISER - OCT. 15

September 12, 2022

We are excited to once again hold our raffle fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Sharon Elks Lodge #103. Two tickets to the event were included with registration costs for the season, which can be kept to attend or sold.  For those that registered online, your tickets are sorted and coaches will have them to you soon.

We have tickets available for sale as well, so if you'd like additional chances to win, or know some people who would like some, then please let us know.  They are $20 each.

This year we will have live entertainment provided by Josh Winters and Shane Herman from the Youngstown Comedy Syndicate.  Also returning is Jeremy Lockard cooking some delicious food and tunes by DJ Jeff Killin.

The fundraiser has money drawings every 10 minutes and Chinese Auction baskets.  All proceeds from the event go towards our general fund, which pays for equipment, supplies, maintenance, and referee fees!  This year is especially important as we have had a lot of expenses so far this season.

That being said, we are asking each team to donate items to our auction baskets, so we have lots to raffle off.  These are a huge money maker for us, so the more donations, the better!

U6 - Legos (all things Lego sets, add ons, anything)
U8A - Unicorns and Rainbows
U8B - Superheroes
U10A - Date Night (anything that would make a fun date)
U10B - Family Game Night
U15A - Car Care (car care items, gift cards for detailing/wash, decorations, etc)

Please turn these items into your coaches and lets make some awesome baskets!

CONCESSION SIGN UP AVAILABLE ONLINE

July 6, 2022

As we have done in the past, we utilize an online sign up form for volunteers to pick dates to work our concession stand.  Starting with this season, we introduced a $25 concession deposit required during registration, that would be returned if a parent works one date.  Please take a look at the online schedule and pick a slot that works for you.

For those that signed up online or did not provide the deposit, it will be due at practices and you should pick a date to work now.

For those that opted out, thank you and you do not need to sign up.

Attention U15 and U12 only parents: due to having to play U15 Home games on the high school field and being far away from the concession stand, as well as U12 games being cancelled, you do not need to sign up and anybody who paid the $25 already will be refunded.  However, feel free to sign up if you would still like to volunteer.  If you have children in other age groups, you are expected to still sign up.

Having the concession stand operational during games is crucial and helps cover the cost of our referees for the season.

SNACK SHACK HELP NEEDED!

September 14, 2021

This year has been incredibly challenging in regards to covering the Snack Shack concession stand during games.  We had a few people volunteer in the beginning, but that has not been the case the last few weeks.  The same person has been covering the games each day.  Not only do they have to coach their own team, and have kids in multiple age groups they want to watch play, but they are stuck working the concession stand too.  This is not fair and frankly unacceptable, as there are nearly 80 kids in this league with parents who could help out and easily cover all the games.  We will more than likely start incorporating a concession fee in our registration costs in the future.

If you would like to help prevent this, we have been using an online sign up procedure for volunteers to sign up and work the concession stand.  We would like to have two people work the stand each date, but one could handle it if needed.  It is extremely important that we have the stand open as all proceeds go towards paying our referees, which can be very expensive.  Duties would include, opening/closing, collecting money/making change, and serving basic concession food items.  If we do not have enough people sign up for a date, we cannot open the stand.  Please visit the following link to sign up:

WE NEED REFEREES!!!

July 21, 2021

A few weeks ago we shared information regarding a Referee Clinic.  It was disappointing to find out that nobody new attended.  We have lost many refs since 2019 and currently only have two consistent refs.  They obviously cannot do every game and we have a large majority scheduled that still need covered.

If you or somebody you know has an understanding of the rules and would like to try and help us out, please contact us via email/facebook or speak to a Coach or league member.  We do not require referees to be certified (although preferred) and will give guidance on what to do.  Referees also get paid!  Without new referees to help us out we are in danger of postponing or cancelling some games.  Contact us if interested and help out the league!

LEAGUE MEETING - APRIL 19

The Elks is located at 260 E. Connelly Blvd, Sharon, PA 16146. Please enter through the back banquet entrance. Masks are required. Thanks!

WE PLAN TO HAVE A 2021 SEASON

The current plan is to have a season this year!  We will have more details to share in the next couple weeks!  Thank you for your patience and we look forward to getting back out on the field!

2020 SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT

June 17, 2020

Over the past few weeks, BYSL has been faced with a lot of questions regarding the future of the 2020 season.  We have been discussing this internally for quite some time.  After meeting last night and looking at all the scenarios involved, we have decided to CANCEL the 2020 soccer season.

This is not a decision we took lightly and we have put it off repeatedly in the hopes we would have more guidance.  Unfortunately, Ohio has failed to give us guidelines to follow regarding full contact sports.  Without these we cannot properly prepare for a season, nor in the time frame required.

The lack of guidelines is one of several issues that prevent us from continuing.  Many of our opposing communities have already cancelled or do not have a plan, which leaves us with fewer teams to schedule games with, if there are games at all.  We use school property for our activities which is also up in the air.  Uniforms cannot be ordered in time.  We may not be able to open our concession stand, there are fewer sponsors due to economic issues, and liability concerns regarding our insurance.  There’s even concerns regarding the portable toilets and the cleaning required.

Most important is the safety of all involved.  Regardless of personal opinions on Covid-19, we are responsible for the wellbeing of the players and spectators.  This is a responsibility we cannot take lightly and do not see a feasible way to maintain, especially without proper guidelines.  Between kids, parents and opposing communities, enforcing any guidelines would be a daunting and near impossible task for our small team of volunteers who already have a lot on their shoulders.

Brookfield Youth Soccer is meant to be a FUN experience and not considered a chore.  The kids should be able to play the game the way it was designed, and not modified and prohibited by numerous restrictive guidelines.  Currently we do not believe the environment we are faced with would provide that “fun” and would not be what our players and parents deserve.

Every member of our soccer board loves the game and all of the families we see each year.  All of us have kids who play.  We agonized over this decision and it was not an easy one to make.  This was supposed to be our 10th anniversary celebration season.  But we are confident this is the right choice to make at this time considering the circumstances.  We are hopeful that some of these issues will clear up over time and are considering the possibility of other forms of soccer activities later down the road.  The future is too uncertain right now, but if we are able to do something, we will.

We will begin processing refunds soon for those that registered already and we will continue to do updates regarding any future soccer activities.  Just because we are not having a season doesn’t mean to ignore soccer for another year.  Get outside, kick a ball, practice shots, passing, dribbling, conditioning, etc.  Especially those who will be high school players in 2021.  There is also the possibly of indoor soccer in a few months if it is allowed.

We thank you all for your continued patience and support throughout our program and during these last couple of months.  We hope to see all players and parents as we move forward with our program in the many years to follow.  Without you, our program would not exist and thrive as it has done so in the last 10 years.  Stay safe and we will hopefully see you sooner than later!

Update: Following the release of this statement, updated Phase 2 "guidelines" from the State of Ohio were made available, which reinforced our difficult decision.  Under these new guidelines, only full contact "scrimmages" and training is allowed, with the maximum of 7 vs 7.  There were no guidelines released regarding actual games being played yet.  Off the field, players and spectators are expected to social distance, which is something we still believe is not feasible to enforce properly.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 2020 - PLEASE READ

April 20, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 virus and Ohio mandated social distancing guidelines, there is no guarantee at the time of registration that there will be a 2020 soccer season.  We are currently waiting for guidelines for Ohio regarding soccer and "high contact" sports.

This is an ongoing situation and we will follow whatever guidelines that are set forth by Gov. Mike DeWine.  However, we need to start the registration process in case we do play this year.  If it is determined that we cannot go forward with the 2020 season, we will issue refunds via the payment method used.

You can register online via credit card by clicking here.

Please note: we have uploaded a physical form to register and pay with check for those that prefer to mail it in.  It is not advised to send cash via mail and we will not be held responsible for it.  These must be received no later than June 1.  You can find the form here.

HELP NEEDED: BYSL LEAGUE MEETING - APRIL 5

March 22, 2018

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!  We will be having a league meeting on Thursday, April 5 at 7:00PM in the Brookfield School library.  We ask all parents or individuals who are interested in helping the league in any capacity this season to please attend.  Due to changes in personal lives, coaching vacancies and other circumstances, we CANNOT continue to operate the league with the few volunteers we currently have.  Our players deserve to have the opportunity to continue playing for BYSL, but without more help it may not be possible.

We hope to see many people at the meeting who are willing to volunteer this season!

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER BECOMES AN OFFICIAL VARSITY SPORT

November 15, 2017

We are excited to share the news that the Brookfield Board of Education has approved the motion to make the High School soccer program an official varsity sport starting in 2018!  Over the past 4 years the High School team has operated as a co-ed "club" team, but now will potentially be separated into boys and girls teams and play in the All-American Conference (AAC).  This opens up many future opportunities for our youth players, as well as to showcase their talents on a bigger stage once they reach high school age.  We have an amazing group of U15 players who are about to move up to the high school level that will benefit greatly from this news, as well as future stars in the making in our younger groups.  This has been a major goal since youth soccer came to Brookfield in 2010 and we cannot wait to see what the future holds!

THANK YOU TO OUR HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER PLAYERS

September 18, 2017

Our Lil' Kickers division was an awesome success this season thanks to the hard work of seniors from the high school soccer team!  Dana Sydlowski, Jordan Gerace and Spencer Toro (not pictured) devoted time before their practices to work with the kids on the fundamentals of soccer.  Thank you so much for your hard work!

4th ANNUAL RAFFLE FUNDRAISER IS OCT. 7 - DONATIONS NEEDED

August 29, 2017

The 4th annual BYSL raffle fundraiser will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Sharon Elks Lodge #103 starting at 6:00pm.  We are in need of Chinese auction donations for the event.  If you are interested or know others who may be, please print one of our donation forms found here and have it filled out.

A pair of tickets to the event were provided as part of registration.  The tickets allow entry to the event as well as raffle numbers used for the drawings throughout the evening.  Every 10 minutes numbers are drawn and money is given away, with the amount increasing each time.  You can win multiple times and DO NOT have to be present to win.  There will also be Chinese auctions, a buffet, DJ and 50/50 raffle.  We have extra tickets available and are still accepting baskets/donations for the auctions.  *Please note this is an adult only event due to Sharon Elks policy.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

July 28, 2017

We are excited to kick off the 2017 season!  We just wanted to go over a few general statements for the rest of the season. Please understand these are just observations from over the years that tend to occur and not directly related to anybody in particular:

ATTENDANCE:  We understand there are various legit reasons for missing practices/games, but soccer does involve a certain level of commitment.  If players are not present, they cannot learn, and this not only hurts the player but their team as well.  It is not fair to players that show up on a consistent basis to have their playing time reduced to make room for others who show up occasionally or just for games.  Our priority is to field a team with enough players, and if there is a shortage at a game then other players from the other teams may be called upon to fill in.  Also, away games are just as important as home games, and should be treated as so, and not traveling due to the distance is unacceptable.  Coaches will be keeping track of attendance.

Please DO NOT instruct your child from the sidelines. This is strictly prohibited in the Trumbull County rules and is as follows:

"Parents, non-playing players, and spectators should be located not less than six (6) feet outside touchline nor should be closer than ten (10) yards to the goal line.  No individual should be allowed to run the length of the field except participants of the game.  Spectators should not instruct the players during the game time.  No alcoholic beverages should be consumed or allowed near the playing area.  Tobacco products should not be used at or around playing areas. Sportsman like conduct expected from players, teams and fans".

We encourage all parents to cheer and to be as loud as possible, but yelling instructions to your child can be confusing and/or distracting to both them and their teammates. They need to be able to focus on their coach's instructions over everything. Players are put in positions to cover certain areas of the field, and telling them to go to the ball when it is not in their area or other things of that nature can disrupt what the coach has been teaching them. Soccer is a TEAM sport and scoring goals is not as important as teamwork. Not every child will score a goal this season. It takes a TEAM to get the ball where it needs to be for the goal. If your child defends or passes the ball it is just as important as how the goal was scored. Please hold any concerns you may have for your coach until after the game is over or contact a league officer.

As parents of Brookfield players, you all signed off on a code of conduct at registration. Please make sure to review it as we will adhere to it throughout the season (it can be found here as well). We know all of you are passionate about your child playing and want nothing but success for them, but please represent Brookfield as a whole, both at home and away games. This means respecting ALL players, coaches, parents, referees and officials at all times. There will be plenty of instances of wrong calls, rude parents, yelling coaches and reckless players. But please refrain from adding to this in a negative way. You would be surprised at how a small instance in one age group can be blown up into a representation of ALL of BYSL.

That being said, please do not yell at referees if you believe they missed a call or made a wrong one. They are human and are usually kids from older age groups helping out. There will be blown calls AND calls that are right that you may think are wrong. Once you have the attention of a ref it can have an affect on our team. A ref will NEVER change their call even if they know they made a mistake. Soccer is a very physical game so please understand not all body contact is a push, trip or foul. Please let the coaches address the refs if THEY believe it is necessary.  A copy of the Trumbull County rules is available here.  PLEASE be familiar with them before questioning anything!

Also, a reminder of the parking situation for the fields behind the elementary school:  there is NO PARKING behind the elementary school.  Please observe the marked cones.  We have been very impressed with cooperation so far with this and appreciate your understanding as the season goes on.

Lastly, please remember every coach and league officer is a VOLUNTEER that puts in many hours to teach your children soccer and organize the league.  This league of around 130 kids is run by less than a dozen volunteers, some being new this season.  Please be respectful of this and understand we all try our best.  If you can do it better, then please volunteer!

Let’s all have fun out there and represent Brookfield Youth Soccer in a positive way to the best of our abilities. GO WARRIORS!!!!!!

Thank you,
Jason Russo - President
