Ball Hockey League Bylaws

I GENERAL

1.1   Purpose – These Bylaws relate to the general conduct of affairs of the Edmonton Garrison Ball Hockey League.

II ELIGIBILITY

2.1   Player eligibility will be as follows:

A. Any Regular Force member and Reserve Force currently on “A”, “B” or “C” class may play in the league;

B. League is co-ed, both genders may play on the same team;

C. All teams must submit a nominal roll prior to the commencement of the season;

D. Players listed on a team roster are to play primarily for that team. On an emergency basis, a player may fill-in for another team (preferably within their unit);

2.2   Playoff eligibility

A. During playoffs, teams must stay within their roster, rule 2.1.D does not apply. Players must be on the roster submitted at the commencement of the season.

III RULES

3.1   The league games shall be conducted in accordance with the current CBHA Hockey Association Rules.  The following modifications will be made in order to effectively conduct games within a 1-hour timeframe:

A. A minimum of six players, one of which is a goaltender to start the game, from a team must be available at game time to start or the game shall be forfeited;

B. Each team is allowed a maximum of 20 players on the bench;

C. Games will be two (2) twenty-five minute running time halves with a five minute rest between periods;

D. Players are not allowed to stand on the ball but may use their feet to stop, pass or redirect ball. Note; a penalty will be assigned for those who stand on ball intentionally;

E. The ball is out of bounds when it leaves the playing surface or if it touches the white mesh above the curtains.  Play will resume with a faceoff at the nearest faceoff spot;

F. Face-offs will be used to start each period, after a goal, or at the Officials discretion;

G. There will be no offside and no body checking;

H. Slap shots are permitted only if the league has agreed prior to the season commencing;

I.  Player substitution will be made only within 5 feet of team benches.

3.2   Equipment

A. All players must wear CSA approved helmets with full face protection or eye goggles dependent on sport (Ball Hockey/Ice Hockey), determined prior to start of season;

B. Gloves, jockstraps, elbow/knee pads etc. will be confirmed by league prior to season;

C. Goalies must wear CSA approved helmet with full face protection.  Also, a throat protector, chest and arm protectors, goalie pads, pants, blocker and catcher, and athletic cup must be worn;

D. Officials shall wear proper eye protection;

E. Players must wear appropriate footwear as per gym regulations.  No tape on sticks and an official ball is the DGEL ball hockey ball;

F. Teams must wear numbered jerseys or pinnies.  Pinnies can be signed out at Sports Stores.

3.3   Code of Conduct

A. Minor penalties will be a penalty shot placed at a point designated by the Official and after the shot the ball is considered dead. Play will resume when Official dictates;

B. Major penalties will all be reviewed by the league. A decision will be made and appropriate parties will be notified of the outcome;

C. Fighting will be an automatic 2 games suspension, and if an aggressor has been determined, that player will receive a three game ban;

D. Anyone participating in a second fight in season or deliberately attempting to injure a player will be automatically suspended for season and may be subject to further disciplinary action;

E. Third man in will receive a 3 game ban;

F. Any excessive arguing or abuse to an Official will be dealt with by the Officials at game and the league.

3.4   Schedule and Standings

A. Schedule will be round robin format and provided by the PSP Military Sports Department and/or League Executive;

B. Game sheets are required to be filled out prior to each match and must be completed and provided to Military Sports upon completion of the game;

C.  If a team has three defaults during the regular season, that team shall be dropped from the league. A team that cannot make a game due to military commitments must contact the opposing team and the PSP Military Sport Coordinator to cancel and/or reschedule the game. This will not count as default. If the game cannot be rescheduled, the team that cancelled will take a loss.

D. Points for stats will be awarded as follows:

Win:  3 points;
Loss:  1 point; and
Forfeit:  0 points

E. Playoff format will be produced by the Military Sports Department and/or League Executive.

IV FEES

4.1   There are no fees to play in the league.
