IN 1992, FRANK RODRIGUEZ WAS ALSO DRAFTED IN THE 2ND ROUND BY THE BOSTON RED SOX AND SIGNED. FRANK IS CURRENTLY ONE OF OUR ASSISTANT COACHES AND HIS SON ELIJAH IS CURRENTLY A SENIOR ON OUR 2013 GSC BASEBALL TEAM.
NEW YORK YANKEES FROM 2014-2015, DELLIN WAS SELECTED TO ATTEND IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME. DELLIN BETANCES WAS CHOSEN IN THE 8TH ROUND OF THE 2006 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL DRAFT. DELLIN GRADUATED FROM GRAND STREET CAMPUS HS IN JUNE 2006. DELLIN DECIDED TO SIGN WITH THE NY YANKEES INSTEAD OF ATTENDING VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY ON A FULL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP. MONTREAL EXPOS JUAN CARLOS ORTIZ WAS SELECTED BY THE MONTREAL EXPOS IN THE 9TH ROUND OF THE 1998 MLB BASEBALL DRAFT. JUAN AGREED TO SIGN WITH EXPOS AND NOT ATTEND COLLEGE. JUAN HAD A LONG LIST OF COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS. JUAN GRADUATED FROM GRAND STREET CAMPUS HS IN JUNE 1998. UNFORTUNATELY, JUAN'S PRO CAREER WAS HAMPERED WITH MANY LEG INJURIES.
MINNESOTA TWINS FRANK RODRIGUEZ WAS SELECTED BY THE BOSTON RED SOX AS THE 1ST PICK OF THE 2ND ROUND OF THE 1993 MLB BASEBALL DRAFT. FRANK GRADUATED FROM EASTERN DISTRICT HS IN JUNE 1992. FRANK WAS A PART OF THE MINNESOTA TWINS PITCHING STAFF. HE ENJOYED HAVING AN 8 YEAR MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL CAREER. I REMEMBER A GROUP OF US WENT TO WATCH HIM PITCH AGAINST THE NY YANKEES AT THE OLD TWINS METRODOME STADIUM.
OAKLAND ATHLETICS JOEL CHIMELIS WAS SELECTED IN THE 11TH ROUND BY THE OAKLAND ATHLETICS IN THE 1988 MLB BASEBALL DRAFT OUT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS LONGHORNS. JOEL PLAYED AT HOWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND THEN RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP TO PLAY FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS LONGHORNS. JOEL WAS AN OUTSTANDING HITTER IN THE MINORS BATTING OVER .300 AND BEING SELECTED TO THE ALL-STAR TEAM IN THE CLASS A, DOUBLE AA, AND TRIPLE AAA LEVELS. JOEL WAS CALLED UP BRIEFLY IN 1995 TO PLAY 3RD BASE FOR DUSTY BAKER AND THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS AFTER MATT WILLIAMS WAS INJURED.

JOEL HAS BEEN A MINOR LEAGUE HITTING COACH FOR THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS BRIEFLY AND THEN HE HAS BEEN COACHING FOR THE HOUSTON ASTROS SINCE 2009 TO PRESENT. JOEL CONTINUES TO MAKE US PROUD.

GERALDO WAS THE 1ST GSC PLAYER TO GO TO THIS COLLEGE POWERHOUSE. ERNESTO DECIDED NOT TO ATTEND BUT FOR GOOD REASON BECAUSE HE SIGNED WITH THE ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS. GERALDO PITCHED IN THE 2012 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AGAINST GEORGE WASHINGTON HS AND WON 2-1 TO HELP OUR GSC BASEBALL PROGRAM WIN IT'S 1ST EVER NEW YORK CITY HIGH SCHOOL (PSAL) BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. GERALDO GRADUATED FROM GRAND ST CAMPUS HS IN JUNE 2012.
ALABAMA UNIVERISTY CRIMSON TIDE (Division I) Elvin Vargas (2004 GSC graduate) received a scholarship to attend UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA after having a successful 2 year career at Connors State College. Elvin was drafted in the 25th round of the 2005 MLB BASEBALL Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
CONNORS STATE COLLEGE (NJCAA- Division I) in Oklahoma ELVIN VARGAS RECEIVED A FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO CONNORS STATE COLLEGE WHEN HE GRADUATED FROM GRAND ST CAMPUS IN JUNE 2004. HE EXCELLED AND WAS AN ALL-AMERICAN AND RECEIVED A FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE (DIVISION I). HE WAS DRAFTED IN THE 20TH ROUND BY THE BALTIMORE ORIOLES.
MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY (NAIA-Division I) in St. Louis Ronald Melo (2005 graduate) starred at this University and was selected as a 2nd team All-American. Also, Fernando Sanchez played for this college and is now currently an Assistant Coach of our GSC Jr. Varsity Baseball Team.
FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE BASEBALL (Division III) Gibran Bracamonte and Frank Yera (2005 Graduates) played for Farmingdale State College. Junior year...Named First Team All-Conference. Started in 31 games at centerfield and led the team with 119 at-bats while finishing fourth on the team with a .395 batting average. Also led the team in hits (47), total bases (59), stolen bases (11), games played (36) and games started (31).
