Larry Somerville Field
Just off of fifth street in Hayward behind the Intermediate school
Larry Somerville Field has been the home of the Hayward Hawks since the team was formed back in 1970. Through the years the park has under gone numerous renovation projects and three name changes.
Originally known as The Hayward Athletic Field the name was changed to Rod Lundberg Field in the fall of 1990 honoring Hayward high school's longtime football coach and athletics director. When a new football stadium was erected on the high school campus in 2002 it took the name Rod Lundberg Field and this venue was changed to Hawks Field. Then in April of 2005 the Hayward board of education voted to change the name to Larry Somerville Field after the man who coached the baseball Hurricanes for forty one years.
Since the year 2000 the park has yearly up grades including a new lighting system, new dugouts and press box, concession stand and most recently a complete new infield playing surface and up graded under ground sprinkling system.
Larry Somerville Field seats approximately 375 people in the grandstand bleachers and has plenty of room available for lawn chair seating. The turf is natural grass. The height of the outfield fence is six feet from foul pole to foul pole. The fence distances are 315 feet down the left field line, left field power alley 365 feet, right field power alley 370 feet, 320 feet down the right field line and 380 feet to dead center field.
Plenty of parking is available in the main lot behind the grandstand and with additional parking in the lot on fifth street across from the main entrance to the park.
