2006 Update of The Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association National Championship Series:

APRIL 9th, 2006

Brandon Gain entered the West Regional as The Susquehanock District Champion. Brandon Managed to win 3 matches taking 5th place at the Regional Championships making him 1st Alternate for the Nationals in Salisbury on April 29th.

Nik Gialamas qualified for the 3rd Straight Season to the National Championships after winning his 5th District Tournament and finished in 2nd Place at the West Regional in Shippensburg, PA. Nik look to improve on his previous two placings after taking 8th (2004) and 6th (2005)

Bill Gialamas went 4-0 at the Districts and capped the first 2 legs of the series by finishing 1st place at both the Cumberland Valley District Qualifier and The West Regional Championship.




This weekend the team expect to have an excellent showing at the War at the Shore III the New Jersey Nationals......

Robin Paguia placed 5th at the Md/Va State Championships at the US Naval Academy this past weekend Robin went 4-2 on his way to his 87th career victory which moves him to Number 6 on the All-Time PH Wins list passing Joe Foster.

Matt Swiger went 2-2 finishing in 8th place becoming one of our 2 state place finishers..

Kyle Pennewill also particpated after qualifying at the MJWL tournament.

New Town High School,

The Punishers took to Mat over the weekend at the Annual Navy/Lehigh Championships where we advanced 4 Wrestlers to the Md/Va States held at the US Naval Academy.

Nathanial Moskunas placed 6th at 50lbs.
Kyle Pennewill finished 5th at 105lbs.

Matt Swiger had 4 nail biter matches during the day to finish in 4th place going 3-2.

Robin Paguia was the 75# Runner-Up becoming our only Finalist with 3 devestating victories losing a close finals match to #1 Ranked Brett Przywara 7-4. Robin now has 83 Wins and is fast approaching #6 on the All-Time Win List....

Loyola Blakefield, February 19th

The MSWA State Championships were held this past weekend at Loyola Blakefield on 11 Wrestling Mats, over 600 Wrestlers participated.

Our guys had a solid showing
Nathanial Moskunas and Zach Dwyer both won Preliminary matches advancing in the championship bracket before getting knocked out.

Kyle Pennewill our highest place winner took (3rd) place in the Under 8 Heavyweight division.

Brandon Gain took 5th place in one of the toughest brackets in the tournament making his team leading season win total at (33).

Robin Paguia was the days brightest performer in possibly the Toughest Weight class of the tournament that featured 9 State Place winners and 3 State Champions. Robin Finished 4th place while reaching his 80th Career Win. knocking off 2x State Champion Goodwyn of Team Kolat in the Qtr. Finals with an exciting 11-9 Win.

Great Job! Next Up the MJWL Navy/Lehigh Championship

Season Wrap up 06-07;

Excellent job by this years small but determined team.

Shaun Murphy wins WRESTLER OF THE YEAR moving to #4 on the All-Time Wins List finished this season winning 3 more tournament titles, was selected the MJWL all-star team and WON HIS 3RD MJWL TITLE and made his 3rd Md/Va State Finals Apperance.

Robin Paguia capped an Outstanding Junior League Carreer finishing 4th and the Md/Va State Championships and 2nd at the MJWL tournament for the second consecutive season ROBIN became the 5th All-Time Wins leader becoming an MJWL All Star and Little 20 Tournament OW this year. Robin should be the #1 ranked 103lber next year in Baltimore County.

Patrick Downey won the MJWL Championships, Hawks Invitational and finished 3rd at the Md/Va Tournament, Patrick will start for the storied Mount Saint Joseph's who is a perenial National Powerhouse.

Gordon Reilley became CO-Rookie of the year finishing his 1st year as the MJWL Age/Weight Runner-Up and placing at 2 "A" tournaments.

Andrew Huber was the other CO-Rookie of the year capping an outstanding 1st season by qualifying for the MD/VA Championships going 3-2 at the event along with WINNING the little 20 tournament as our Heavyweight

Kyle Pennewill took the Most Dedicated Award with his unmatched determination and continued improvement will only lead to good things Kyle Finished 3rd at NHSCA Elementary State Tournament and 2nd at the MJWL Age/Weight Championships

Jake Tetlow was the Most Improved wrestler managing to win a hand full of "A" dual meets along with a 4th place finish at the Little 20

Nathaniel Moskunas appears to be the next shining light on the Horizon for our program while only in his second year qualified for the Md/Va Championships and will definetly be a favored in the lightweights for years to come.

Other good performances included Gabriel Coleman, Tyrell Armstrong, Cullen Jones..........Devin Kess our little 40lber went 3-1 and took home second place...........Josh Tetlow won his 2nd match of the year and has seemed to have finally started to get with the program? finally all the years of grilling him have started to pay dividends????? First year wrestler Quincy Lucas also won his first match at the event!

Wrestler of the Week, Lots of deserving candidates this week, I will have to pick one of our most improved wrestlers for this week (although, There are alot of those guys this year which makes my end of the year pick very difficult) Good Problem to have I guess??????

Anyway, This week winner is THOMAS COLEMAN 2nd Place at Mcdonogh and 1st Place at Mckim.............Outstanding, And your 14 wins this years more than triples last years total.

Very exciting and competitive match last night, Despite the waiting I thought it was a nice change of pace to follow the high school varsity on a weeknight. And it looked like alot of the crowd stuck around to watch the future stars do there thing.


We dropped the team match 42-39 very close, and I want to personally give a shout out to our 108 and 115 lbers who have managed to make it to only 1 event each this year.......thanks, Actually I prefer those who don't want to wrestle to just stay home anyway, that way we don't have to pretend like we are interested in watching them...


Great job by those who made it.

Congratulations! The regular season has concluded and we finished with a 5-4 record. (Not great, but winning non thr less). We seem to be back on track! We swept both matches today from woodlawn and hereford! Great matches today by many and a lot of bonehead mistakes by several, but you are all still learning and it is somewhat expected.

Outstanding Performance all around, every wrestler was sharp and competitive even in defeat. I thought everyone wrestled well, there were very few bonehead mistakes, and everybody came prepared to compete.


In honesty, with this kind of performance and the continued effort and advancement, next season I seriously believe we can be a state tournament caliber team.

In a truley dominating performance Thomas Coleman looked like a man among boys and completely destroyed and demoralized every one of the 4 wrestlers he faced and embarrassed their parents.

During Such a Weekend of Kaos, where the days for me were quite long and tiresome having to work the event. It's really dissapointing to have such a poor showing as a team. Especially after such a positive performance last weekend.

Welcome to the real deal! I want to thank you all for making the effort and attempting even being here today!

I want to just breakdown each kids day as I saw it and whether you agree or not so be it!

First off congrats to Gordon Reilley who is our first state qualifier in two years he will wrestle tommorow with hopes of taking 3rd place he went 2-1 today! Gordon u still need to listen to what I'm telling u during matches u need to chain wrestle and stay in good position at all times.


Next, Tyler Klein another great season finishing 2-2 on the day and finishing the day with that disgusting OT loss on bad luck, bad timing and just plain bullshit has me so mad I could scream! Just wasn't meant to be this year, the only thing I will critic is u need to have awarness of the score and protect your leads!

Thomas, great tournament a very close loss in the last match which would have advanced you against a kid that dominated you prior shows you've improved greatly,

Tyrell, solid and competitive in your last match, next year you'll be in the mix,

Gabriel, congrats on you shaffenacker recognition, I don't think u were ready today! But u gained experience,

Noah, u need to control the temper tantrums! And I'm very dissapointed u just flattened out and gave up a pin the last match! Nothing is going to be gained by quitting!

Gordon Reilley takes 6th place and has his name enshrined under the MJWL results page among the place winners of Perry Hall over the last 30 years.

Thomas Coleman and Tyler Klein are 1st alternates and stand a good shot at getting into the tournament.

The best of the maryland youth and northern virginia wrestling community assembled at good council school in olney maryland for the areas toughest qualifying tournament, a sense of what the highest level in youth wrestling has now been experienced by gordon, thomas and tyler! Ask them what its about if you get curious!


Thomas got in as an alternate and lost a 4-2 overtime match in round one and then lost by tech fall in round 2!

Gordon got his clock cleaned in the first round and then kinda of went into a panic attack in the middle of a 4-2 match, and ended up getting eliminated 9-2.

Tyler who ended up 29 wins this year a team best for the 2nd straight year and next year will enter the all-time top ten list since I've been coaching. He lost 10-5 and 7-0. And made a good showing as an alternate.

The Little 20 Tournament was held on the 27th at Perry Hall due to the snow from last week. We moved the event and cancelled the novice tournament. Those who participated are aware of this.


I have never been more embarrassed as a coach than I was yesterday, We had a 50% turn out which is pathetic. It's pretty bad when you host an event and can't get 1/2 your team to show up. We are a laughing stock amongst the other teams that were there. It's times like these that make me question my reasons for continuing this when apparantly 1/2 the team considers it a hassle or inconvience. I suppose the only answer that I can offer is that I am there for the few that do care. It's sickening that 6 of the 9 teams who entered had more wrestlers than perry hall at our event.


I'd like to Thank those who did help out and participate without you, we would have had a total disaster.


Another just flat out slap in the face was how at the end of the event, It was Myself, My Brother, Mr. Pennewill, Mr and Mrs Klein and Mr and Mrs Tetlow that cleaned up the entire gym and rolled up all the mats! How wonderful to know that among our 29 wrestlers adn families that we had too have 2 women help us roll up wrestling mats! It's downright disgusting.

I think in the future rather than subject these few individuals to all this effort and work we probably will not continue to host any events. So in the future we will probably raise the fee and make every event self pay to me it's the only FAIR way to do it. So thanks again to those who were involved, I apologize on behalf of the organization for wasting your efforts.

* And Finally before anyone gives me any excuses or song and dance about whatever reason or events that were more important or time consuming than this, let me say this: #1 I don't have a kid on the team, #2 I don't get paid, #3 My tournament started last week and continued on Wednesday and Thursday confirming rosters and arranging for the event, Saturday I was at the rec office from noon till 6pm running off brackets and programs, then spent from 6pm to 9pm setting up the gym, Then was at the tournament on Sunday from 6am to 5pm, So all told I have more time invested than every other person on this team combined. Over the years I have been at wrestling events during thanksgivings, easters, memorial day weekends, new years eve weekends, valentines day, among so many other things i could have been doing for myself, While everyone was doing there xmas thing this past weekend, just take a moment and think about your coach who spent xmas eve filling out wrestling brackets so that the kids could have a good tournament on sunday, and all i've ever asked in return is to do your best and put in an effort. So pardon me if I'm not sympathetic.

Wrestler of the Week : Kyle Pennewill finished 2nd among a surprisingly large heavyweight field.

Our next scheduled event is on 1/16/09 at Century.

A monster weekend for wrestling with lots of experience gained and good competition. 7 team matches and 140 individual match ups. as a team we have never had the opportunity to get so many matches for so many kids in such a short period of time, i hope everyone got the most of the experience.


Team wise, well with our forfeits it makes it tough but without the forfiets we would have been 5-2 and we were competitive through out.

weekend standouts include the following:

and everyone on the team recorded atleast 1 win which is great!

THis weekends standout though was Matt Wagner who keeps amazing us all, He went 8-0 over the weekend and now has a season record of 15-2 as a rookie. incredible work!

Another note is that Tyler Klein has reached 70 career wins with his performances at the little 20 and over the weekend he passed the #10, #9 and #8 wrestlers on the list which can be viewed under our team records.

Gordon Reilley is getting close to adding his name to this list as well.

Team Results 48-27 Win Vs Mckim and 42-36 Loss To Hamilton another up and down performance. We have had alot of close matches this season, unfortunately for us they have been close the wrong way. But this will give us something to improve on next season.

Individually, I have seem some improvement from your performances.
Austin Mccauley and Chris Kite both won A team matches putting together some of the basic moves into action to propel themselves to victory. Sonny Mccauley also notched another win versus Mckim.

Tyrell Looked good in the HBU match but again looked lost vs Mckim, if Tyrell could get himself to focus he would have at least double the amount of wins he has this season.

Noah again went 2-0 surviving a cement mixer to start off the HBU match and ended up finishing with a headlock.

Gordon dominated his first match but looked very sloppy against Grindle from HBU a match that had some seeding implications on it, a chance to redeem yourself may come at the navy/lehigh tournament. Gordon now has (55) career wins and is 5 away from reaching the top 12 on the all time win list.

Kyle Pennewill continues to show why you should never underestimate your opponent and why you keep fighting through the entire match. The final match of the day had Kyle losing 8-2 in the 3rd period against a much more imposing opponent yet Kyle bidded his time and hit a dominating headlock and caught him on his back to claim the win by fall!

Matt Galinn, Mike Haley and Mario Niotis all recorded victories versus Mckim, which Mr. Galinn continued vs HBU, But Mike and Mario got a little taste of the mat during there HBU match.

Matt Wagner continues to dominate recording 2 more wins now leading the team with 17 on the season. and has a good chance to reach the 20 win club after next weekend.

Wrestler of the Week: Tyler Klein recorded 2 more wins reaching numbers 13 and 14 on the season and number 71 and 72 on his quest to move up the all time win list.

Warriors Tournament:

4 no shows: Mike, Mario, Chris and Tyrell that's the 2nd tournament you have skipped this year! I love having to make the rec council write a check for 20 dollars a wrestler for a tournament and have you guys not show up! Especially after having the chance to not sign up!

Gordon missed weight! Even after being asked 2 weeks ago what weight class he wanted to be in! And had the chance to change it!

The lack of mental focus on this team is discouraging for certain!

The tournament was shut down early due to the snow so only those left in finals got to finish, however those who showed up had respectable performances in an event that was very high caliber! Sonny, Austin, and Hunter had some close matches but came up short. Nathan was 1-1, Noah and Tyler were 1-2. Kyle made the final 4 in his bracket and Matt was 2-1 when the tournament was shut down his only loss was a 5-0 match bvs 3x state place winner Austin Atkinson! Good job for our actual wrestlers! I hope the practice squad made some nice snowballs today and maybe even a snowman for the front yard! Practice Tuesday for anyone interested.

Day 1 end of first two rounds Kyle Pennewill wins by fall in first period vs Old Mill to advance to qtr finals! Matt Wagner defeats NoVa wrestler C4 by 9-2 to advance to qtr finals. Noah Michael loses a close 7-4 match to Warhawks but is still alive in the consolations!

Kyle and Matt lose in qtr finals to the #1 seed, Noah wins 6-1 in 2nd rd consolations. All 3 still alive in the 3rd round consolations, Whoever wins here is a place winner and makes the final 8 for day 2!

3rd rd consolations were punishing, just not in our favor! 3 close but no cigar stories to report. Still a good season and almost a perfect ending but all 3 end up stopped in the final 10! A good job just making it and all won atleast 1 match! Something to build on next year!

This years Punisher wrestling Team had an up and down season but this year we had more ups then downs, and hopefully next year we will get to that next level. We now have 5 wrestlers with state tournament experience and have a good idea where we want to be in the future.

This season our new / novice kids finished this years season at the finale at Franklin our annual MJWL Age/Weight tournament saw us take 5 medals.......including TYrell Armstrong who won the 75# Championship.
Chris Kite, Austin Mccauley, Jessika Tetlow, and Nathan Fowler all finished 4th

Our A level kids made some noise as well,
Gordon Reilley won another 15 matches finally reaching our all time list at #12.

Matt Galinn advanced to within 1 match of qualifying for the state tournament.

Tyler Klein had another winning season and moved up the list taking his 3rd straight little 20 place finish along the way.

Kyle Pennewill is now a serious competitor at heavyweight taking 2nd at the little 20 and 2nd at the MJWL Regionals and also recorded a victory at the Md/Va states.

Noah Michael finished his season in the twenty win club gaining his 20th win at the Md/Va State Championships. He also took 4th at the MJWL Regionals and LIttle 20 TOurnaments.

Our Wretler of the Year and Also a Rookie Matt Wagner finished with 26 Wins, 3rd at the MJWL, 2nd at the Little 20, 6th At MSWA championships and had an undefeated dual meet record.

As a Team we had our first winning season in 3 years finishing at 6-4 which is decent considering we forfeit 3 weight classes.......

Banquet info will be posted in a few weeks............make sure you have your singlets at the banquet so i can have them fixed, cleaned and stored for next year........... for those who want to continue with off season wrestling the mawa districts are next weekend and the following checking mawa wrestling website for information and middle river will be continuing practice through april at eastern tech on tuesday and thursday if you want to get some more mat time.

ALL (7) WRESTLERS WHO MADE THE TOURNAMENT MADE THE AWARDS STAND!


Kyle Zhong 50lbs won (2) Matches and finished in 5th place

RYan Covahey 50lbs took 7th place

Nolan Klado and Jovan Simmons-Taylor although they didn't win a match still placed 5th and 4th incredibely.

Kyle Pennewill finished 4th going 2-2

Jake Tetlow finished a team high 3rd going 2-1

and Matt Wagner went through a brutal 122# weight class finishing in 6th place going 3-3 on the tournament.

Matt finished the season by tieing the single season team record with (41) Wins and breaking the single season pin record with (32)

The 2010-2011 Season is Underway! On a brisk december saturday morning the Punishers traveled to the famous sparrows point penninsula to take on the upstart host team where the Punishers were true to form defeating the Spartans 54-42 to start the season on a winning note, Afterward the Panthers of Golden Ring took to the mat in part 2 of the Tri Meet where our punishers well quite frankly kinda got punished but that is the nature of this sport the team total was Golden Ring 66 The Hall 24 although the score was a little lopsided the individual matches were closer then the score would suggest. Another positive about today was the additional mat that was set up for the exhibition matches were all our wrestlers got to compete multiple times and almost everyone recorded a victory on the day.

Highlights and Memorable Moments:

Ben Wagner won his first 2 career matches today one of which with an outstanding and brutal cement mixer.

Nolan Klado, Tyler Medley and Jovan Simmons-Taylor also all recorded wins in there first mat apperance a good start for our Light Heavyweights.

Sonny Mccauley in keeping with tradition drew the first tears of the season and pretty much making his Spartan opponent quit for the rest of the day with a very quick and vicious pin. Our own Matt Galinn last year broke a dundalk opponents arm on opening day so not quite as brutal but still impressive in my book.

Tyler Armstrong won 3 matches on the day which is very impressive and continuing his late run last year.

Angus Yoakum won his first career match versus Golden Ring with a solid shutout win 4-0 another good day for a first year wrestler.

Other Winners on the Day:
Matt Galinn, Braden Dorsey, Josh Tetlow, Jake Tetlow, Mike Taffatanni, Austin Mccauley, Hunter Yoakum and Dan Fisher won 2 matches on the day.

All our lightweights won exhibition matches including William Bressner, Ryan Covahey, Kyle Zhong and The Hapsis Brother Gianni and Domonic.

Kyle Pennewill and Dylan Shank were close to pulling off a victory and i'm sure will get there first wins next weekend.

Well as usual we saved the BEST FOR LAST and THE WRESTLER OF THE WEEK AWARD: (I HAVE A FEELING THERE WILL BE MORE OF THESE FOR MATT WAGNER

Matt is only a second year wrestler who recorded over 25 Wins last season on his way to taking 3rd at the MJWL REGIONALS and Placing at the MSWA State Tournaments went an outstanding 3-0 on the day and defeated the Sparrows Point High School JV Captain in overtime in the most exciting match of the day......and then topped it off by wiping the mat with his golden ring opponent before pinning him in a reverse cradle.

Eatern tech high school proved to be a day of accomplishment for the punishers! Everyone wrestled well, and this was a valuable experience leading into the little 20 next weekend.

The Punishers claim Silver in a very competitive and close tournament at Perry Hall High School for the annual Little 20 Tournament. We finished 2nd place among the 12 teams entered.

Wrestler of the Week: INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION JAKE TETLOW has added his name to the HALL OF CHAMPIONS

Perry Hall High School January 2nd the Punisher Round Robin was the first event held on the New Year in the State of Maryland.

We had a successful and fairly well run event, Novice tournaments always seem to be more chaotic because the newer parent's are just a little too high strung from the other teams.

I will say i'm very dissapointed at the amount of NO SHOWS we had for this event we had ( 7 ) that is 20% of the TEAM, it is especially dissapointing for those of you who this event was designed for, you missed an opportunity for 3+ matches and valuable mat experience, I've been leaning towards not having this event the last few years in lieu of a dual meet tournament anyway because of the turn out and the element that novice events encourage.

Wrestler of the Week:

Josh Tetlow for winning his first match.

Both Matches unfortunately came down to 1 Match and we were on the wrong end of the stick. Before I get into the highlights, let me say this. There is noone on this earth better as a coach then me that can put you in the position to win as a team, (we had several wrestlers out of weight class, had a couple weights we would have forfeited, yet with jockeying the lineup we were still in position to win both matches.) The fact is we win as a team and lose as a team, it is up to each individual to do his part when it's his turn to contribute to the team victory.

We have entirely to many guys who continue to look into the half, get caught in head locks, take bad shots and continue to get put on there back. then in turn quit and give up. Getting pinned is quitting and it's unacceptable! You as a competitor need to all look in the mirror and admit to yourself if your tough or not! And this lesson can be applied to anything you do in life not just wrestling, you have to have the belief in yourself that you will be successful and that you absolutely will not quit or give in ever. I wrestled in over 125 matches and NEVER was pinned. Getting pinned is the worst thing in wrestling that can happen and if your content with getting pinned there is no hope for you.

I'm not going to pick on any 1 particular person, however when you lose a team match by 1 point you all know that if any one of you that got pinned would have just lost on points we would have won both matches. Heart and Desire cannot be taught. You either have it or not..... if you do not, I would suggest marbles as a sport that may be right for you!

In addition, for those who took the day off, Team matches are required unless you inform me in advance otherwise. If you don't want to wrestle then turn in your singlet and move on to the marble rings! The usual 5 or 6 no shows per match isn't cutting it, and that goes for practice too.

We have been keeping an active all time Wins list under our Team Records page on the left of the main page of this screen since I began coaching in 1998. In the beginning the list was pretty short and pretty easy to get on because we started from zero, however as the years went and the team got better and over the years we have had some very special wrestlers come through the program. Our All-Time List is a mark of consistancy and the result of a solid career.

Take a moment and look at our list and the accomplishments of those who are on it and perhaps it will motivate you to add your name among them.

We currently have a wrestler that has methodically worked his way into this list over the last (4) seasons and is in a good position this coming weekend to make his way to #6 all-time.

Tyler Klein our current 80-85# wrestler currently has 83 Wins for his career and is currently 8th all-time. Over the years Tyler has won a number of tournaments and been a Md/Va State qualifier he currently is 3 wins behind STATE CHAMPION Joe Foster at #7 and 7 wins behind #6 Kyle England who was a 2x Md/Va Bronze Medalist. If Tyler continues on his path he should pass current PHHS Superstar and 4x State Place winner Robin Paguia at #5 on the list.

Matt Wagner has a shot to crack the #12 spot this season in only his second year he currently has 40 Wins and needs a strong finish to pass Gordon Reilley and Coach Nick Bonincontri.

After a long trip, and thankfully the longest trip of our season is now complete. Both matches we were on the wrong end of the score board, but i will say we wrestled well this weekend, guys stayed off there back and went the distance in quite a few matches that previously i think would have gotten pinned. That is a remarkable improvement, and by taking matches to the distance, you gain that valuable mat experience that eventually will turn into wins.

You learn alot more in a tough match that goes the distance, then you do by pinning someone with the first move of a match or vice versa.

This event is one of my favorites, over the course of the day Perry Hall Wrestlers wrestled in over 125 matches this is the only event of this type that we participate in, it's tough competition and team orientated.
We had a number of good performances and a unfortunately a number of dreadful performances the first two team matches we were completely outclassed, the last three we were within a match of winning. Again as always though to win as a team every member needs to do there part which hasn't been the case this year, we have been the team of what should have been to this point.

Highlights of the day:

Tyler Klein repeats as weight class champion going 5-0 for the second straight year.

Matt Wagner went 4-1 running his career record at the event 10-1.

Jake Tetlow and Matt Galinn won 4 matches each.

Kyle Pennewill, Dan Fisher, Jovan Simmons-Taylor and Braedan Dorsey won 3 matches each.

It's pretty obvious that the competition we saw on saturday definetly woke some guys up and did us a world of good as evidence of the results today.

Punishers crush Middle River 58-30 and Beat Mckim 43-42 on a tie breaker for most pins.

Great showing today, match of the day had to be Sonny vs Mckim in a 17-16 battle that ended as sonny was about to earn three back points, Sonny showed the result of sticking in the match after the guy jumped all over him to start the match, he kept batteling and closed the gap and almost pulled it out. It should be an inspiration to the rest of you.

Braedan Dorsey has decided he wants to be a wrestler he went 5-2 this weekend and his 2 losses were very close, He has turned the corner.

Matt Wagner won twice today and leads the team and has again made the 20 win club by notching his 19th and 20th of the season.

Austin Mccauley, Dan Fisher, Tyrell Armstrong, Jovan Simmons-Taylor and Matt Galinn all notched 2 wins today.

Tyler Klein went a perfect 7-0 this weekend with 7 pins, He also has reached some milestones this weekend he is now in a 6th place tie all time on our all-time list and now has 90 career wins, His next win will put in in sole position of 6th place, The only question is can he reach 100 before the season is over?

Matt Wagner needs to win 14 more this year in order to pass Gordon Reilley on the all-time list.

Between our No Shows and Choke Artist routine it was a very grey day for the team. A complete ass whoopin' is the best way to describe it, almost embarrassing the day after we get nice write up in the newspaper.

Angus Yoakum / Braedan Dorsey and Matt Wagner were the only wrestlers who accumulated team points with 2 falls and a tech fall.

Sonny Mccauley, Kyle Pennewill and Matt Galinn earned some quality mat time that hopefully they learn from and each gained a victory at the event.

Tyler Klein advanced from the 13th seeded position and knocked off the #5 ranked wrestler finishing in 6th place. Tyler has reached 99 Wins on his career and his next win will put him at the magical 100 MARK

Jake Tetlow earned 2 victories including a win over the Warhawks to guarantee his 6th place finish.

Matt Wagner also seeded on 13th went 4-2 and finished 4th he won 4 matches by pin along the way. Matt's 4 victories today puts him in a 10th place tie with 61 on his career with Ryan Howard who was a former 4th place finisher at the Md/Va.

Matt Wagner was also awarded the Prestigeous Thomas B. Shaffenacker Award at the Beginning of the tournament. With his 3 wins this weekend Matt has moved to #10 on the all-time wins lists.

Tyler Klein hit a career milestone over the weekend securing 2 more victories and went over the CENTURTY MARK and currently has 101 career wins.

Tuesday Night at Chesapeake the Punishers visited Middle River for it's preseason scrimmage matches.

On hand were the M.W.O.A Trainees (Wrestling Officials) for evaluation night and as many of you noticed some of them are rather "green". But just like you wrestlers officials also need training and to start somewhere. Like many of you they will improve as they go.

I was pretty impressed by our performance last night where we faced middle rivers (A) Team and (B) Team and rather successfully I might add, It was alot of confusion and alot of wrestling with 4 Matches going on at the same time throughout the night.

From what i witnessed of our guys it looked like we ended up on the winning end of atleast 70% of the Matches.

Camyrn Grindle, Sonny Mccauley, and Tyler Klein wrestled the teams toughest competition and fared exceptionally with Camyrn Going 3-0, Sonny knocked off a state runner-up and Tyler came within 2 points of MJWL Outstanding wrestler.

I saw Quron Totally dominate his 2 matches, Hunter went 3-0, our lightweights all wrestled tough winning quite a few matches between Zach, Kyle and William. Tyreek, Tyrell, Brendan, Tyler C., Dylan all looked rather seasonsed for such a short period of time that we've been at it this year.

If last night is any indication and if we can keep everyone in different weights. I expect much success during this years Dual Meet Season.

The Maryland Junior Wrestling League (which we are part of) sponsors an all-star team that participates in the MCDONOGH DUALS which is a 2 day tournament at the end of January that consists of wrestling in 8 MATCHES against some of the toughest competition on the east coast. Their are 24 teams that attend this event and are sectioned into pools of 6 where each team will wrestle 5 matches and then the final 3 matches put you into the championship tournament where you compete against teams with like records from rounds 1 thru 5......

The MJWL Team is selected in early january from the list of names submitted from the coaches of the 23 teams in our league those who are selected from this list will represent the MJWL in this event.

Opening Weekend in the Maryland Junior Wrestling League saw our very own punishers take to the mats on saturday with 2 home matches and finishing up with a trip to the country with 2 matches at hereford on sunday.

Mixed Results was the theme on Both days but the team starts off the year winning 3 of the 4 matches starting the season 3-1.

I have no real explanation how we lost to Reisterstown because they tied the warriors, but match ups apparantly are critical and wrestling hard does make a difference.

It is of major importance that you stay off your backs during matches at all costs. That is the difference between 3 and 6 points and they add up quickly.

During the woodlawn match we wrestled sloppy yet got away with a win by the skin of our teeth.

Vs the Warriors and Hereford everyone looked great if we can wrestle like that every match we will be hard to beat.

Individual Standout Performances:

Camryn Grindle went 4-0 and his win vs Woodlawn not only stopped the bleeding after 8 straight losses but locked up the victory for the team.

Quron Morris went 5-0 in dominating fashion.

Tyrell Armstrong went 4-1 over the weekend, Sonny Mcccauley went 3-1, Tyler Klein went 3-1, William Bressner was 3-2, Alec Blume and Angus Yoakum went 3-1, Kyle Zhong / Hunter Yoakum / Dylan Shank / Dan Andino all won 2 matches over the weekend.

Others who recorded wins during the weekend were Pablo Thompson, Nolan Klado, Foster Jones, Brandon Okoniho, Max Zdziera, and Austin Mccauley.

Tyler Klein with his 3 wins this weekend now has recorded 104 wins in his wrestling career he needs 27 more this year to become 5th place on the all-time. Click on team records for our team statistics.

The Weekend of DEC 18th is our annual xmas tournament called the LITTLE 20 this is a free event but we ask wrestlers to come saturday night to set up the gym and we will need to work the score tables and concession stand on sunday......PHHS VARSITY will be sending some wrestlers to work the tables so that part of it may be covered......

Nolan Klado's mom is this years TEAM MOM and is in charge of organizing the concession. We ask our parents to donate to this in order to make a profit....She will be handing out a sign up sheet for everyone to participate everyone is asked to donate approximately the same amount. All non perishable concession products need to be brought to the high school on DEC 17th at 8pm for set up. Tournament information is posted on the wall of the practice room. What money the team raises during this event pays for all the other events that we enter.

We try to get as much wrestling in during the season as possible the goal is to get every wrestler as much mat time as possible.

We have scheduled several events to accomplish this which are listed on the schedule..........our regular season dual meets are required through the league but in addition to that we offer the following list of events. (since these are "extra" we/the team must pay for each wrestler entered) with that in mind if you elect to participate in any of these "EXTRA" events you are required to show up and make weight. If you sign up for a tournament and do not show up we will expect you to pay the entry fee.

These events on average cost us between $15-$20 per wrestler which we don't mind paying. but we don't like to just throw money away.

The only event we ask you to pay for is the MDWAY sponsored events which goes directly to the MDWAY Tournament Director.

Both matches we lost this year we really could have won, i've seen some improvement from our new kids. staying off there backs and saving team points, but i also see the same knuckleheaded mistakes from some of our veterans and it's pretty troubling because it either means you don't pay attention or understand or even worse gives the appearance that you haven't been taught what to do (WHICH WE ALL KNOW IS NOT THE CASE.)

We have put ourselves in a CAN'T LOSE POSITION AS A TEAM FROM HERE ON OUT IF WE THINK WE HAVE ANY CHANCE OF MAKING THE TEAM DUAL MEET CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FEBRUARY. If we get a 3rd loss we are in one of those triangle positions and need help from other teams. We need to take care of our own matches and not leave it up to chance.

Match Highlights:
VS MCKIM - William Bressner started us off with a Pin victory his 4th of te season and is off to a good start, Wins in the middleweights from Hunter, Tyler, Camryn, Tyrell and Quron were key in securing the team victory. The heavyweights came through with wins by new comer Dondre Enells and Alec Blume to put the knights of mckim away for good. exhibition winners were Brendan Okohina, Colin Alexander, Tyler Chancey, Kyle Zhong and Patrick Sidelinger.

VS CENTAURS - William had a back and forth battle that could have went either way but ended up getting caught for the pin. Zac Packer recorded a victory on the A squad, Austin Mccauley and Tyler Klein also added to the team score which was tight right up to the last match. Camryn Grindle won by major decision in a very entertaining match that was a critical win in attempting to secure his spot on the MJWL all-star team. We got jambed up by the coin toss as Centaurs forfieted to Quron at 115# and because we could get the win at 122# we ended up on the short end of the team score. Had we been able to flip/flop those weight the match would have went to us, the heavy weights Alec Blume and Dondre Enells brought the end score to single digits.

I want to emphasize that every single individual match is important and counts for the team score. GETTING PINNED IS NOT ACCEPTABLE and NEVER HAS BEEN QUITE FRANKLY!

December 11th:

Punishers sweep the tri-meet in carroll county over both manchester and francis scott key to run it's record to 6-2 on the season. We will wrestle both these teams again this season so a chance to improve for those who fell short will come again.

A note about dual meets again, it is the position of the coach to put the team in the best position to win period. Each wrestler must do his job during his match in order to help the team win. Tournaments are your time for individual achievement! I don't want to hear anyone complain about wrestling up a weight class or against a better kid we all have done it at one time or another and it's a team match the goal is to win as a team. The actual rule is you can wrestle up (2) weight classes which is a change from years ago where that rule didn't exist at all. Believe me when i say that i want everyone of our kids to succeed and will not send kids out in a position that risks injury. losses are part of the sport and the reality is noone on the team wrestled more then 7 lbs above their weight in any match this weekend for team points. you all wrestle up 2, 3, or 4 weight classes in practice so to make excuses about giving up 4 lbs to a kid is just a copout. It's all about getting on the mat and helping the team to win.........


Vs Manchester William got our first win on the day and then once tyler took the mat the route was on with Back to Back to Back pins by Tyler, Hunter and Camryn. Then 6 point victories by Quron, Dylan, Angus, Alec and Dondre finished off the match in convincing fashion. Exhibition winners were Foster Jones, Tyler Chancey, and William Bressner.

Vs FSK we started off with wins by Zac Packer and Kyle Zhong then Pablo Thompson. Austin Mccauley recorded the quickest pin of the year so far by finishing off his opponent in just (33) Seconds, Colin Alexander continued with a victory before we ran into (3) very winable matches that our guys Tyler, Hunter and Camryn all lost mentally. Hunter and Tyler both had leads and pin moves locked up before having mental lapses. (Do not hang your head over the guys back when you are on top, i've been saying lace a leg for years to both of you. And you don't do a suicide cradle in the middle of the mat Tyler if you had gotten out to the side and sat back like i know that you understand how to do it you would have pinned him instead of getting reversed. As for Camryn you weighed in at 99.1 you opponent weighed in at 104.0 so you can save the excuses and whinning about weight you were beat before you walked out on the mat.) Continuing Patrick wrestled a tough match losing 3-1 before Quron put us ahead for good with another dominating victory at 122lbs. Angus, ALec and Dondre followed up with wins to secure the victory. This match was a good example of the rest of the guys stepping up when our captains didn't get it done.

Another thing that needs to change is the 4 or 5 guys that we have that throw temper tantrums on the mat or after the match. This is not acceptable and if it continues i will replace captains, sit you out or come up with something else. And there is no arguing with a referee during or after a match if you do that in a tournament you will get disqualified and be sent home. Save the bad attitude for somewhere else, making a scene during a match is not only embarrassing it's just plain silly.

The Punishers flooded the brackets at the annual little 20 xmas tournament entering 37 wrestlers into the field which featured 16 teams from around the state of maryland. At the end of the day the PUNISHERS came away with the 2nd place team plaque equaling last years performance.

Very long day our wrestlers won 25 matches on saturday as we finished with a bang as Dondre finished off his middle river opponent on the last match of the evening!

The punisher return 8 wrestlers on Sunday who will place a
somewhere among the top 6 which place to be determined

Making it to the Championship Finals are Dan Andino, Quran Carter, and Josh Benzig!

Still in the hunt for 3rd place are Alec Blume, Nolan Klado, Camryn Grindle, William Bressner, And Dondre Ennels!

Others who won matches but came up short of placing were Patrick Sidelinger, Sonny McCauley, Tyrell Armstrong, Kyle Zhong, Tyler Klein who got his 111 career win, and Austin McCauley who won 3 matches on the day!

Another Successful and Great event at good old Perry Hall High School on New Years Eve. The round robin event has become very popular with it's age/weight and three matches in 4 hours schedule.

IN ORDER TO BE COMPETITIVE AT THE DUAL MEET CHAMPIONSHIPS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT DO EXHIBITION MATCHES AT THAT(WE WILL ONLY USE 1 WRESTLER PER WEIGHT CLASS IF WE MAKE IT....)

IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA IF WE SHORED UP OUR WEIGHT CLASSES FOR THAT EVENT MEANING IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT DROPPING DOWN TO A DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASS YOU NEED TO START WORKING TOWARDS IT..........

WE RIGHT NOW DO NOT HAVE A 65lber or 70lber that can make weight regularly the spot is there at those weights for anyone who wants it..............

CURRENTLY at 150 we have 2 guys that are solid and our 140lber weight 133 and our 130lber weight 124-125 it might benefit you for lets say one of the 150lbers who weight 146 to think about 140 and the 133 guy to think about going 130 and then the 124 guy to think about 122...............i'm not telling you what to do but if we want the strongest possible lineup for that event i am laying out that line up below if you think you can challenge for that spot let me know and we will do wrestle offs in mid-february for this event..

On a mild winter morning the battle tested Punishers who made it through the ringer of day 1 of the Manchester tournament arrived with high expectations! While many of our wrestlers were not present for this very tough event, and many fell short along the way on day 1 the Elite Eight who made it performed well.......

Day 2 began with William Bressner, who in only his 2nd year is probably the most enthusiastic wrestler on the team as well as our smallest but he packs a big punch going 4-2 for the tournament and taking home 5th place.

Camryn Grindle battled his way to 4th place going through a very tough bracket finishing 3-2 with a very close consolation final match for the bronze.

Nolan Klado got a pin in his third place match to reach the awards podium against a Warhawks wrestler.

Alec Blume a rookie was a very impressive 3-2 on his way to his 5th place finish and got revenge in his final match by pinning the wrestle who knocked him into the consolation bracket.

Mr. Excitement Dondre Ennels had probably 2 of the 3 most exciting matches of the tournament after his heart stopping victory to make it back to the second day, He went on to entertain the crowd by winning 2 more matches the last one was a barn burner that Dondre held on to win by 12-11.

Dan Andino quitely made his way to the finals and finished in second place in a very competitive championship match and is inching closer to that top spot at 165.

Josh Benzig had a great tournament winning all of his matches by pin and took home the championship at 150 against a very tough wrestler from the warriors in the finals.

Quran Carter-Morris had the match of the tournament vs defending state champion Logan Garland.......After being only given the #6 seed which is amazing to me since Quran has rattled off a 17-0 record prior to the event..........Well make it 21-0 now as he dismantled the #11, #3 and #2 seeded wrestlers on his way to a showdown of epic porportions......Quran started off fast and a scramble took place for about 45 seconds of the first period then Quran got caught by Garland who went up 2-0 and then put Quran on his back for a few seconds it looked bleak but time ran out and Quran started the second period behind for the first time this year in a 5-0 deficit......Quran took nuetral and did his thing after a couple out of bounds scrambles the mixer was the move that doomed his opponent and Quran secured the pinfall with about 20 seconds left in period #2....After the tournament Quran was voted the TOURNAMENTS MOST OUTSTANDING WRESTLER!

The Team Finished 6th out of 16 teams and had a few more guys wrestled to their seed we would have been 3rd...........congrats to those who came saw and kicked ass.

ON JANUARY 28th and 29th MCDONOGH SCHOOL HOSTS A NATIONAL DUAL MEET CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT THAT HAS 24 TEAMS FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES

IT IS PROBABLY THE TOUGHEST YOUTH WRESTLING TOURNAMENT TOP TO BOTTOM I'VE EVER SEEN OUT OF THE 24 TEAMS MARYLAND USUALLY FIELDS (5).

Despite a slightly banged up starting line-up from last weeks manchester tournament the #2 and #3 wrestlers stepped right up and showed their stuff.

Most impressive was Tyreek Dickerson filling in for Camryn Grindle who secured 2 pin fall victories and clinched the manchester match with his win, Other rookies scoring dual meet victories were Pablo Thompson, Colin Alexander, Maurice Allen and Kyle Matheny who all stepped up during the Lansdowne Match with Key victories......

Malachi Fowler recorded his first career pin against lansdowne and our heavyweights were outstanding led by Dondre Ennels and Josh Benzig both went 2-0 with wins by Pin and Alec Blume, Quran Carter-Morris and Sonny Mccauley both recorded 6 point victories.......

In the Middle weights vs Manchester Tyler Klein, Hunter Yoakum and Austin Mccauley all won by pinfall......Tyrell Armstrong added 2 more wins to his total including a tough fought 9-5 win vs Manchester.

William Bressner went 3-0 on the day with 2 dominating wins and a very exciting come from behind win vs lansdowne.

The Punisher Express Keeps on Truckin' on Sunday at Mcdonogh School in Owings Mills......

The Punishers beat Golden Ring so badly it was like they weren't even there with a shut out of 90-0 followed up with a decisive victory over the host Mcdonogh 66-17 along with several exhibition matches vs woodlawn and the spartans it was a day of domination.

Good day of wrestling all around it started in the early morning where some dedicated wrestlers showed up for extra mat time in the morning roll around Tyler Chancey, Hunter Yoakum, William Bressner recorded 3 wins each! Kyle Zhong, Colin Alexander, Brendan Hollingsworth, and Angus Yoakum recorded 2 victories each and Max ZdZièra picked up a win as well!

In the dual meet matches we faired well winning 2 out 3 team matches and had a number of closely battled matches in our defeat against some highly ranked wrestlers!

The Punishers capped off the regular season at the Damascus Fire Hall on Sunday winning both matches with our battle tested group of wrestlers improving to an undefeated NAVY DIVISION RECORD of 15-0 and an overall record of 16-2 to gain the #1 Seed at the MJWL DUAL MEET PLAYOFFS being held at LANSDOWNE on 2/25/12.

Location: Lansdowne High School

The Punishers finished the improbable on Saturday finishing off a perfect 17-0 Navy Division record and 18-2 Overall Record in two exhilarating dual meets to Win the TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS. This was despite having our starting wrestler at 100lbs and having a couple guys miss weight. I hope this is a lesson to those guys who missed weight that this is something that cannot happen and should not happen especially at this time of the year.

The Dual vs MIDDLE RIVER had many good matches, Pablo Thompson had the most exciting coming back from 9 points down to pin his opponent with :01 Second remaining at 75lbs.. It took Austin Mccauley OVERTIME to pull out a 10-8 Win....and Sonny Mccauley avenged a loss from a couple weeks ago earning a fall....rookie Branden Hollingsworth scored a critical victory as well as Tyreek Dickerson, Tyler Klein, William Bressner, Quran Carter, Patrick Sidelinger and Dondre Ennels.

In The Finals we met a very motivated full lineup from the Warriors and it took a magic trick to pull it out and some good wrestling...Hunter Yoakum, Tyler Klein, William Bressner, Tyrell Armstrong, Tyreek DIckerson, Patrick Sidelinger, Quran Carter, Alec Blume and Dondre Enells all won individiual matches and secured the team title.

I'm glad we had alot of our backups attend and contribute cheering on the team from the side and the guys who had tough matches and fought hard like Tyler Chancey, Kyle Zhong and Zach Packer who all saved team points by staying in their matches despite being outmatched.

Individually some milestones were reached today as well........

William Bressner recorded his 40th win of the season and is 2 wins away from the TEAM RECORD FOR A SINGLE SEASON.

Quran Carter-Morris has reached the 30 win club running his season total to 31 wins.

Tyler Klein is now 5th place on the all time list and continues to add to his career wins total check the all time list on the menu.

Hunter Yoakum ties Matt Wagner for career wins and Tyrell Armstong is inching his way among the all-timers.

We currently have (7) wrestlers with 20+ wins this year and a few knocking on the door.......

6 of those wrestlers brought home hardware:

Josh Benzing took the silver medal at 150
Alec Blume finished 4th at 140
Tyler Chancey placed 6th at 90
Tyler Klein placed 5th at 85
Dondre Enells was 4th at 150
And William Bressner placed 5th at 55
Others who won matches were Nolan Klado with 1 win and Hunter Yoakum secured 2 wins before getting knocked out.

Would have been close...............

Foster Jones with the spotlight on him came up big in the events final match wrestling in one of the best heavyweight matches you will ever see outlasting his middle river opponent by a score of 13-9 to become our second champion on the weekend!

Earlier Josh Benzing scored the fastest pin of the finals vs Mckim besting him in a time of 37 seconds! Josh dominated his weight class and reached 30 wins on te season in doing so!

Quran Carter-Morris was our other finalist but came of short taking home the silver and also has over 30 wins this year!

Camryn Grindle reached 20 wins on the year by finishing 5th winning 4 matches over the weekend!

Tyler Klein finally got the MJWL monkey off his back finishing in 3rd place winning 4 of 5 this weekend on the way to his 30th of the season and career win 131 tying Robin Paguia going into the State Championships next weekend

Hunter Yoakum won 2 matches getting his 30th of the year making it to the finals 8!

Dan Andino, Nolan Klado and Alec Blume also qualified for states finishing 5th, 4th and 3rd respectively!

Dondre Ennels came back strong on Sunday winning 2 matches to finish third place after his semi final defeat!

Others who won matches over the weekend were tyrell armstrong, jamaal Bryan, sonny McCauley and brother Austin along with Patrick Sidelinger!

The team faired well taking 5th out of 20!

William Bressner just missed placing in one of the most competitive weights of the tournament and finished the season with 44 wins a new team single season record! The top 8 guys in Williams weight class are within 4 points of each and on any given day William may have been the champion of the bracket!

Next up for those left is the md junior state championships at good counsel in olney md next weekend, practice for those remaining is at golden ring Tuesday and Thursday!

Thanks to all who supported the team all year long from the donations, hours of working the concession stand, the tournament score keepers and those who helped tear down and set up for every event! Without you we could not put on these kind of events! Thanks for all your efforts and thanks for picking up the slack when others do not! (something that is thankless and no matter how many come and go through the program there are always the few who only do the absolute minimum and are proud of it!).

Great year all around and good luck to those who will be wrestling at the final event!

Day 1 at good counsel in Olney was record setting for us as 8 wrestlers advance to day 2 and the placing rounds on Sunday! And the wrestlers below saved the best for last this year and i was pleasantly surprised by the performance over the last few weeks!


The day started off wishy washy as our first 3 wrestlers that took the mat got beaten into the consolation brackets until Tyrell Armstrong who was an alternate into the event proved that everyone can be beat and knocked off the #3 seeded wrestler by a score of 11-6 to start a remarkable run!

Hunter Yoakum pinned his way into the 7th place match vs the warhawks and was the 2nd of our alternates to wrestle well! Patrick Sidelinger also advanced to day 2 at 115 as our other alternate to advance!

Foster Jones won by pin fall in the quarter finals before losing in the semi finals but is still in good position for the top 3!

Quran Carter-Morris lost a tough semi final match vs the defending state champion but looked good in his previous matches!

William Bressner wrestled 2 close matches but came up short while sonny and Austin Mccauley both got into the tournament and gained some valuable state tournament experience.

Alec Blume and Dondre Enells both advanced to the second day of competition into the semi final consolation round!

Tyler Klein came back strong after blowing a big lead in his first match and pinned 3 straight opponents and faces a round one rematch in the morning!

Josh Benzing is our first state finalist since 2007 after a last second come from behind win on the semi final round against the UCWL champion!




DAY 2 was a tough one but again when you get down to the top 8 guys in the Maryland/Delaware State Championships they are all tough..........

The Team had 8 Place winners which was excellent but they were all low except Josh so we didn't add many points on day 2 and ended up in 12th place out of the 54 team field. Hopefully all our returners aim for improving next season up the awards podium....congratulations to the elite eight who placed:

Season Wrap Up................

Congratulations on a great season, it's that time of year to reflect on the Highs and Lows and this year we can say that we had many more Highs...

From that 2nd week in november when this team first started it's long journey on the road to what end we had no idea at the time but you all came a long way this year....of course we had our usual number of non- serious people who missed events and practice and made excuses but that's nothing new and I try not dwell on it, but for those who dedicated themselves this year you saw the fruits of your labor in the results on the Mats!!!!!

We went 15-0 during the regular season in our division, then topped that off with a team championship at the MJWL NAVY DIVISION DUALS where some of our youngsters carried the team like Pat Sidelinger, Brandon Hollingsworth, Tyreek Dickerson, Sonny Mccauley and Pablo Thompson who all won big matches at the DUALS.

The Manchester Tournament was a team success where we finished 5th two weeks after taking 2nd at the LIttle 20 where guys like Austin Mcauley, ALec Blume, Camryn Grindle, Dondre Ennels, Nolan Klado and Dan Andino proved they measured up with the rest of the MJWL wrestlers in their class.

The Golden Ring TOurnament saw the likes of Lucas Thompson, Tyler Chancey, Max Zdziera, Zach Packer, Malachi Fowler, Jamaal Bryan, Cristian Vasquez-Perez, Colin Alexander,Kyle Matheny and Kyle ZHong prove their value to the teams future.

What can we say about little William Bressner who racked up a team record 44 wins this year breaking the single season record while placing at THE MDWAY STATES.

THE MJWL CHAMPIONSHIPS Saw us crown 2 champions in JOSH BENZING and FOSTER JONES who came up big in the heavy weight finals.

Quran Carter-Morris won the OUTSTANDING WRESTLER at the MANCHESTER TOURNAMENT and LITTLE 20 TOURNAMENTS on his way to a 37 WIN SEASON and broke the single season PIN RECORD.

Hunter Yoakum won a career high 32 matches this year and finished 8th at the MAU-STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS and has reached the ALL TIME TOP 12 ON THE CAREER WINS TOTALS.

Tyler Klein had a stellar year placing at 5 individual tournaments recording 33 wins on the year and moving past Robin Paguia on the all-time list.

Our record setting performance at the MAU with 8 place winners was a team high best and included Patrick Sidelinger's taking 8th as an alternate and saw Tyrell Armstrong knock off the #3 seed as an alternate proving any match can be won if you set your mind to it. And Josh Benzing was our first STATE FINALIST since 2007 taking 2nd place.

This was one of the most successful years for a team that I've been around as a coach or as a wrestler and you should be very proud of your accomplishments.

So in conclusion, HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU................UNTIL WE MEET NEXT FALL..............have a fun summer and be prepared to set the bar a little higher next season.

November 10th Archbishop Curley High hosted it's annual preseason event where 4 of our wrestlers entered.

Kyle Zhong finished in 4th place at 65
Patrick Sidelinger took the silver medal at 120
Hunter Yoakum also finished 2nd place with silver at 105

William Bressner starts off the season undefeated going 3-0 with3 pins and brought home the 60# championship title!

The Punishers have reason to be optimistic about this season after the second preseason tune up event of the season!

Camryn Grindle went 2-2 in his first outing of the season just missing the podium.

William Bressner went 3-2 enroute to 4th place.

Kyle Zhong went an impressive 3-1 taking home the bronze.

Hunter Yoakum won the 107lb schoolboy title going 4-0


Viper Tournament Results:

Gaige Lloyd started the season off with his first win 2-0 in the preliminary round before losing his next 2 matches.

William Bressner finished in 4th place accumulating two more victories

Joseph Lloyd placed second at the woodlawn novice tournament over thanksgiving weekend!

On a foggy December morning our Punishers took to the mats for opening weekend putting on a dominating display routing the Lakers of Boys Latin (not to be confused with the Los Angelas Lakers by a score of 76-18 with wins by pretty much the entire team!

But some standout performances included Camryn Grindle, Hunter Yoakum and Tyler Klein gaining dominating pin falls with additional wins by Austin McCauley, Sonny McCauley and Patrick Sidelinger. First year wrestlers Dylan Young, Zach Dell and Justin Stever recorded their first victories on the A team and William Bressner, Kyle Zhong and Gaige Lloyd recorded forfeits.

In the second match not even the ghost of Johnny Unitas could prevent the devastation the was suffered by the Colts who made their return to Baltimore running into the buzz saw that is the punisher machine! William Bressner evened the score at 6 after his win by pin at 60! A couple lucky wins by hickory wrestlers only encouraged the wrath of Zach Dell who brought the team to within 6 with his cement mixer finish that left his opponent dazed and confused! After a couple forfeits because our guys can't make the weight they wrestle off for Nathaniel moskunas stepped up and recorded his first win since his stint with us when he was just 55lb tike! Next up Austin McCauley won by decision keeping the Punishers within striking distance followed by Tyler Kleins second pin of the day and a decision victory by Hunter Yoakum the match was tied at 30 when the Punishers turned on the afterburners reeling off 6 straight victories by Camryn Grindle, Tyrell Armstrong, Pat Sidelinger, Dylan Shank, Sonny McCauley and Alec Blume to make the total score 57-30! Pablo Thompson recorded a victory in the exhibition round!

Wrestlers of the Week -
Pablo Thompson who had an eye infection and had to miss the wrestle offs still showed up Sunday and stuck around waiting his turn at a potential exhibition match up which he won in dominating fashion!

Austin McCauley starts the season off undefeated at 2-0 for the first time in his career!

Rookie Zach Dell recorded the fastest and most brutal pin of the day over the Colts if you can send your opponent off the mat crying you know you did your job!



Next weekend we step it up a notch with matches vs woodlawn and manchester at north Carroll high school on Saturday!

As advertised the level of competition was superior to last week!  We need to continue to improve and learn from our mistakes so we don't repeat them constantly!  In these competitive team matches the difference comes down to 1 match going the other way sometimes!

Next weekend is a big event for the team on Saturday and we need everyone focused and motivated!   Wrestling like a lot of things in life isn't about how many times you get knocked down but about how many times you get back up and keep pushing!

We will need a 95lber at the Loyola Duals on Saturday so whoever wants to step up and fill that spot let me know ASAP!

We will not forfeit weight classes! It's not fair to the other teams or to our other wrestlers!

 

Match 1 results vs manchester saw us remain undefeated winning 41-34 that match was only that close because I matched up some wrestlers that I wanted to get competitive matches with!  We could have easily won that match by 24 points!

 

Against Woodlawn I attempted to work the match in our favor but a prior commitment cost us the ability to match up in the heavyweights and a missed weight and not having the back up at the match caused us an issue in the middle weights! Despite these set backs we came up just 12 points short by a score of 52-40. Like I said 1 match a pin the other way and it would have been a tie!

Regardless woodlawn is a very good team and we fought hard we may get a shot at redemption in the playoffs?

The lineup for loyola will be changing slightly this week which I will address at practice we will be putting the best team we possibly can on the mat at loyola!    The Sunday tournament is your time to shine as an individual!

Patrick Sidelinger going 3-0 , Alec Blume with an impressive performance against Woodlawn and Camryn Grindle for his dominating win against Woodlawn!

                                                                        

 

MARYLAND DUALS AT LOYOLA started the weekend off with a grueling (5) matches vs some of the States Top Teams we finished 2-3 with 4 very competitive matches and got blown out by the VIPERS last years State Runner-Ups.

 

We started the day off with a nailbiter loss vs Arden of Anne Arundel County that came down to the Heavyweight match where Alec had to injury default with a knee issue so we ended up losing the team match by 6 points,  The following day Alec avenged this loss at the Little 20 tournament match winners included a sweep of the heavyweights from 100-150 with Hunter Yoakum leading the charge.

In match number two we came ready to wrestle and had our biggest win of the year so far defeating the Montgomery County Outlaws who are a top tier team in the State Tyler Klein led the way in this match with other wins again from the heavyweights and our younger guys stayed off their backs limiting the points from the Outlaws.

Match 3 was another competive Match that we came up a little bit short in against the Warhawks which is the premier team in Maryland,  We faced there "B" team in this match and wrestled well Kyle Zhong got an impressive win by pinfall as well as Camryn Grindle.

 

Match 4 was what i call a good old fashioned ass whipping and unforturnately we were on the recieving end of that one.  We did have a couple bright spots with Sonny Mccauley and Alec Blume securing Pinfalls but as a team we stunk up the joint in that one, luckily our day was not over

Match 5 the punishers bounced back and stomped the MSJ titans to finish the day.  Gaige Lloyd, Dylan Young recorded their first wins of the day and Zach Dell pulled through with a pinfall.

 

We did have one weight class champion on the day who went undefeated in William Bressner who won all (5) of his matches by decision.

 

 

                                                                                    

 

At the Same time that this madness was transpiring our "B" team was at the Rhino Round Robin where we got some valuable match experience and every wrestler got competitive match ups and most of us picked up some wins for their record.

 

Invidiual Champions were:

Zach Packer, Colin Alexander, Jake Snader, Jacob Muir, Nicholas Boccia, Joseph Lloyd and Cruz Cespedes.

THE LITTLE 20 XMAS TOURNAMENT ON SUNDAY concluding this weekend of mayhem saw the PUNISHERS have some varied success,  As a team we finished 5th out of 16 teams which is respectable.  This years tournament was alot tougher then the last 3 or 4 years and i thought we faired decently considering.

Wrestler of the Week:  THIS WEEK WAS A NO BRAINER   10 WINS in (2) days against 0 Losses    WILLIAM BRESSNER WEIGHT CLASS CHAMPION AT THE MARYLAND DUALS and LITTLE 20 TOURNAMENT CHAMPION 2012.

 

On a Side note,  Thanks to all the efforts by everyone who helped with setup, teardown, concessions and scoretables it was one long weekend for everyone and i'm glad it's behind us........but this event is what makes the rest of our season possible and we enjoy being the premier in season tournament in the Baltimore Metro Area and take pride in it.........we did have some issues with people not showing up and/or leaving early and while this is voluntary it is for your children.   It is not fair that everyone else has to do more because a handful do not do their part.  But that's typical american society.  This event does not run itself and if we want to continue it we need everyones help we are not going to have the same 5 or 6 people around forever.

 

 

Viper Duals Results 

 Team went 2-1 taking 2nd place in the pool round barely winning the first two matches and then giving away the third match!

We have to face the reality that against any decent to above average team we really don't have much of a chance of winning because we have way to many guys who just get pinned in every match, and the rest of the team cannot overcome the 30 point deficit that the ones who get destroyed time and again put us in!

 

For an example in the gaithersburg match we had two guys get pinned back to back in a combined :39 seconds and one of those is a 4th year wrestler to make it even more unbelievable!  Against nova again we had 4 guys go a combined 4:00 minutes while shining the mat with their backs!

I expect our first year wrestlers to struggle but I also expect them to put up a fight!  There is no excuse for a guy who has been wrestling for 3 or 4 years to get pinned in :19 seconds against anyone!  We need to listen during practice and start using the techniques we are instructing instead of whatever it is you think you are doing that might work against some kid who has never seen a wrestling mat before!

One thing that I cannot teach any of you is heart and desire! You either have it or you don't and if you don't have the heart or the drive to fight you are in the wrong sport!  

 

We got guys who just fall over as soon as the other guy touches them and guys who take a weak shot and if the other guy does anything besides fall on his back they just let the other guy spin around and score!  The mixer from the knees isunacceptable it hasn't been taught that way and it will not work on anyone that isn't a complete fish!  We got rockheads who still get turned with a half nelson against novice wrestlers because they either don't have any athletic prowess or just refuse to do what has been taught!  I feel it is my duty to give you the honest truth and here it is if some of you guys don't get your act together you are never going to even suit up for a varsity wrestling match let alone actually compete!

 

Individial results:

55 Zach Packer 2-1 looked good after dropping the first match, came back in the third of the second match and dominated in the third match perhaps hit a turning point 

60 William Bressner 3-0 mr automatic business as usual knocking off a capital beltway place finisher from Virginia and controlling the other two matches allowing 0 points in his matches!

65 Kyle Zhong 2-1 looked very good his only loss was in overtime has turned the corner this year!

70 Jake Snader 2-2 was competitive and looks pretty good for a guy who is wrestling his first A team matches needs to work on neutral and hip position!

75 Zach Dell 1-2 should have won two matches, needs to work on his technique, has the physical tools but overall good for a first year kid!

80 Ian Budny 0-3 gets a pass first season and very limited experience keep working but needs to learn from his mistakes so they don't become habit!

85 Nathaniel Moskunas 1-2 has the physical ability but not sure ifthe has the mental ability to change from his own technique to the correct technique maybe needs another 10-12 beat downs before it registers!

90 Jacob Muir 0-3 another tough one to figure out, seems to have the idea of shooting but is one of those who if his opponent doesn't just fall down seems confused and lets him spin around and beat on him! Again a rookie gets a pass!

95 Pablo Thompson 0-3 not sure what happened since last year but I know you are capable of much more then you har shown this year 

100 Austin McCauley 1-2 now holds the team record for being pinned in two consecutive matches in the quickest amount of time, his first two matches lasted a total of 49 seconds! However he did manage to squeak out a win against the worst wrestler in the building to finish his day!  Overall a very dissapointing outing especially since this is year 4!

105 Tyler Klein 2-1 looked sloppy, confused and overwhelmed today looked like the Tyler who was famous for blowing 6 point leads with 30 seconds left I will assume this was just a bad day!

110 Colin Alexander 0-3 wrestled hard for his first time on the a team and Id say gave a valiant effort giving up 2 weight classes all day!  Next year should be your year!

118 Tyrell Armstong 1-1 looked consistant as usual needs a little more fire especially on the feet!

125 Camryn Grindle 3-0 OW for us on the day in all three matches I had to bump him to wrestle the other teams best kid in order to give the team a chance to win and he delivered. 

132 Patrick Sidelinger 3-0 looks very sharp and clean with that roll takedown using proper set up and proper technique this is Patrick's second year and he was a back up last year!  This kid wants it!

140 Dylan Shank 2-1 needs to work on a bunch of things but mainly defending the takedown you can't use the cradle if you can't get on top!

152 Sonny McCauley 2-1 very sloppy all day and seems timid and either does not know any other moves besides the fat boy roll or has no confidence in trying them!  At your age you need to be much more aggressive. If you don't figure it out this year your wrestling career could be in its twilight!

Hwt Alec Blume 4-0 dominating at heavyweight today!  Solid day!

 

 

 

The Annual Punisher Round Robin took place on Sunday December 30th at Perry Hall High School

Teams that Attended were

Perry Hall, Lansdowne, Golden Ring, Dundalk, Sparrows Point, Middle River, Hereford, Bel Air, Hickory Fountain Green

 

What a difference a day makes sometimes or maybe just a little different attitude is all that's needed! Had there been a team title at today's event we surely would have won it easily winning 12 individual weight classes and 12 second place finishes!

Some much improved wrestlers who were focused today included

Dylan Shank who won a silver medal, Sonny McCauley who brought home gold, Zach Dell finished 2nd as well as Patrick Sidelinger, Dylan Young, Bradley Lintz, Zach Packer, Gaige Lloyd, and Nolan Klado!

Tyler Klein, Camryn Grindle, Tyrell Armstrong, Alec Blume and Pablo Thompson all won titles in their respective weight classes!

Cruz Cespedes finished with a silver medal in 2 seperste weight classes while little Joseph Lloyd brought home 2 gold medals going 6-0 on the day!  

Kyle Zhong went 5-1 taking a gold and a silver medal in his brackets!  While William Bressner had amother big weekend going 9-0 over the weekend winning double gold medals and adding to last weekends tally!

 

Ryder Pusinsky won his first tournament title today collecting three wins along the way to his gold medal!

ALEC BLUME 165# 1 win - 1 loss finished 2nd place after 4 kids in the bracket scratched to make it a round robin!

 

NOLAN KLADO HWT 1 win - 3 losses placed 4th in the heavyweight bracket!

Very tough day all around!  Hopefully some guys will be more focused for the Dundalk tournament in 2 weeks!

 

 

 

Day 2 Results of the (3) returners went as follows:

William Bressner dropped his semi consolation match 3-0 to the eventual third place finisher but pulled out an exciting 6-5 victory in the 5th place match vs Damascus!

Tyler Klein wrestled tough on Sunday completely brutalizing both his opponents by pin!  Knocking off his Damascus opponent to earn third place a kid who defeated the manchester opponent that beat Tyler a few weeks ago!

Camryn Grindle wrestled a tough finals but couldn't quite get the turn he needed in the championship match and ended up as the runner-up! Leg rides need to have constant pressure put on the shoulders and hips!

 

Congratuations!

Both matches were close again today.  Which has become the theme of this seasons team!  Get close but find a way to lose!   The bottom line is that the effort given as a team in the dual meet matches this year just isn't good enough and if it continues we will be sitting home for the playoffs!

 

Next weekend we are in a must win sitaution vs Northwest and we will be two wrestlers short which makes it even tougher to be able to have a chance to win!   

 

On the positive side if you want to call it a positive is that many of the matches we ended up losing we were either winning or the score was close!  

 

The reality is we are going to have to work much harder in practice,  and we are going to drill and drill and drill until we start using the moves we have been working on in practice in matches!  We are going to see over the next few weeks who is committed to taking the steps needed to get to where we need to be.   I'm willing to go to pretty amazing lengths to accomplish this and we are going to find out who on this team is with me and who is going to fall by the wayside!  We are way to far into the season to be moving backwards!

I thought we gave a total team effort today! And it paid off big as we topped the field of the 14 team tournament and took home the te championship banner!

Every single wrestler we entered scored team points which is the goal at every event and that effort helped us accomplish our goal!  Everyone should be proud of their performance today!

Lots of tough wrestling today,  lots of "upsets"!   My thought on that is if you do what you are supposed to do and wrestle hard you can beat anyone!

Another highlight was Alec Blume recording an 11 second pin in his second round match!

What a weekend for our own Malachi Fowler who really stepped up this weekend!  In a single weekend the legend of Mr. Fowler's efforts will live on in the years to come.  And may have secured his spot as the greatest 95lber in the teams history!

 

First off Malachi won 3 matches on Saturday on his way to the bronze statue in his first placing at a major tournament which alone may have been considered one heck of a weekend!  Since his 3rd place secured 19 team points which carried the team to its first tournament championship in a number of years!  A hell of a weekend for most but Malachi was only getting started because on Sunday he came back from a 4-0 deficit and secured a pin vs northwest to move our team in the lead in a must win dual meet and was the nail in the coffin vs the raiders that propelled our team into the playoffs for the second consecutive season!

Other match winners vs the raiders were Zach Dell, Kyle Zhong, Nathaniel Moskunas who avenged an overtime loss from the day before, Tyler Klein, Hunter Yoakum, Camryn Grindle, Patrick Sidelinger, Tyrell Armstrong and Dylan Shank!

 

 Against Mckim we kind of crapped the bed!   Proving that you can't take anyone for granted!

William Bressner did record his 99th career win vs Mckim on the bright side!

The Punisher A Squad finished off the last home event of the regular season in Style by sending a clear message that we do belong in the Lehigh division despite the rough sledding we have had this season in that division but rest assured you will be better off for competing at the higher level. As proven by the below match scores.

Individual Standouts:

Hunter Yoakum went 5-0 and appears to be hitting his stride after a several week layoff from an injury and appears to be on track to make some noise at the year end tournaments.

Tyrell Armstrong picked up 6 wins on the day to raise his stock for seeding purposes.

Sonny Mccauley and Patrick Sidelinger also went 5-0 on the day.

Tyler Klein gained another 5 victories adding to his impressive career totals which can be viewed on the All Time Leaders section of the website.

Camryn Grindle picked up 5 wins on Sunday, Malachi Fowler gained 4 victories on the day.

Newcomers Zach Dell and Nathaniel Moskunas both went 4-1 on the day.

Dylan Shank won 3 matches as did Gaige Lloyd.

Zach Packer had bookend wins, Pablo Thompson and Justin Stever also gained a pair of victories.

Kyle Zhong had 4 absolutely brutalizing wins and has become quite a monster on the mat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Leading the way at the Annual Golden Ring Novice Champiionships for Team Punisher was Lucas Thompson who went 3-0 on the Day to bring home the Gold.

 

Bradley Lintz, Jack Aubele, Dylan Young, Colin Alexander and Jacob Muir all finished with Silver to wrap up the 2012-2013 Novice Season.

 

Others who participated were:

Ryder Pusinsky, Cruz Cespedes, Kyle Muller, Ben Packer and Nicolas Boccia.

The Maryland Independent Athletic Association held it's annual Middle School Championships at St. Paul's Private School. Which featured the private school league teams including Gilman, Loyola, Friends, Jemicy, St. Paul's, Boys Latin, Mcdonogh, Glenelg Day School, Severn, Calvert, and St. Ignatius.

 

The Tournament Director sent our team an invitation to attend this event which we accepted kind of spur of the moment and entered 13 wrestlers into the field.

 

10 Wrestlers came home as place winners, A good day of wrestling against some competition that we normally do not get the opportunity to see.

 

 

Zach Dell won the Title at 74lbs.

Justin Stever went 1-2 and came just one match short of placing.

Nathanial Moskunas rolled to a third place finish racking up 3 wins on the day!

Pablo Thompson went 2-2 finishing in 2nd place

Lucas Thompson went 2-1 taking 2nd an outstanding performance considering Lucas is a 5th grader.

Malachi Fowler split his 4 matches to take 4th place

Austin Mccauley won the title at 96lbs going 3-0 for his first tournament title.

Tyler Klein was the Champion at 100 winning all three matches by pin.

Hunter Yoakum took hom Silver going 2-1

Patrick Sidelinger came 3 points short of winning the title at 128# but settled for 2nd place

A pretty good showing by our team considering we only entered 13 wrestlers.  We represented the team well and hopefully this will become an annual event on our schedule.

 

 

 

 

We had 10 Wrestlers attempt the qualification process of going onto the MSWA age/weight championships to start the day....

 

Patrick Sidelinger finished 4th just one win away from advancing

Dylan Shank and Malachi Fowler both got knocked out in the Round of 6

Jack Aubele, and Kyle Muller both advance finishing 3rd place

 

Dylan Young finished in Second Place at the 8U 52# Class

Tyler Klein was the runner-up at the 14U 100# Class

 

 

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WERE EARNED BY (3) WRESTLERS:

 

WILLIAM BRESSNER won the 8U 60lb Title

 

KYLE ZHONG won the 8U 65lb Title

 

HUNTER YOAKUM won the 14U 105lb Title

 

  

I'm very proud of the way we wrestled the final matches of the season.  The team has come a long way since November we closed out the 2012-2013 regular season by splitting the final two matches by really taking it to Hereford winning 63-15 and wrestling a very competitive match against the best team in the league which was a much more competitive match then the score showed at the end vs Damascus.

 

We are going to focus on sharpening up the next two weeks of practice to be fully prepared for the final 3 week push that begins with the Playoffs that will be at Damascus on February 23rd.

 

Next weekend is an off weekend for everyone and we should be pushing ourselves to be at our absolute peak for the final 3 week run......

The score doesn't show it but we could match up better at 140 maybe, Dell had a real close match and Tyrell or Camryn being at 115 makes this a very close match had we gotten those things to go our way.........Camryn and Patrick both pinned MJWL all stars in their matches.  William and Kyle both beat regular A team tournament place winners, alot of guys fought hard and if we get the chance at a rematch i think it will be much closer......

An outstanding performance from our newbies Dylan Kelley who came from behind to send his match into over time and them rolled through on a headlock to pull out his match.  Justin Stever hit a mixer with 6 seconds remaining to pull out a very exciting 3-2 match!  And Pablo Thompson earned a pin fall to win at 90lbs all three combining to win 3 matches that were all up in the air going into the match!

A good finish to the season as a dual meet team we ended up as follows:

In match #2 we got our guys who didn't wrestle mat time and lost to Middle River in the consolation match but Ian Budny, Tyler Klein, William Bressner and Sonny McCauley pulled out wins among those who did wrestle!

 

The Team Champions were Damascus in the Lehigh Division and the ESP Spartans from Sparrows Point won the Navy (B) Division!

 

NEXT UP THE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGINNING ON SATURDAY!

William Bressner racked up 4 more wins on the year running his season total to (48) this year which is a new single season team record and will continue to add to it in the next few weeks on his way to 3rd place at the Mswa age weight championships!

Dylan Young also participated going 0-2 but having a very competitive second match,  unfortunately Kyle Zhong who was a medal favored was sick and missed the event!

On Sunday our older kids took to the Carroll county cow palace in Westminster!  Hunter Yoakum jumped out to a fast start winning his first match before dropping his next two matches and came up short from placing by a couple matches.

Tyler Klein became our second 2x place winner at this event bringing home 4th place and adding 3 more wins to his impressive career total!

KYLE ZHONG Took 3rd place in the 8u 65lb class!

 CAMRYN GRINDLE finished 3rd in the 14u 115lb weight class!  

Congratulations to both!

The Punishers Stand in 6th Place after Day One of the MJWL Championships only 16 points out of second place thanks to the performance of the Heavyweights!

We got absolutely smashed under 100 pounds as wrestler after wrestler choked and was sent home early by under wrestling to their seeds! The only wrestler under 100 pounds to qualify for day 2 is William Bressner who will be wrestling for 7th place.  It was not all disaster for the lightweights though as Gaige Lloyd picked up one victory and Zac Packer won 2 matches before getting knocked out!

The Heavyweights shined through as we pushed a team record 5 into the finals!

Hunter Yoakum went 3-0 and won his semi final match vs Damascus in the Ultimate Tie Breaker,

Camryn Grindle was absolutely dominating winning 15-0 in his semi finals match!

Patrick Sidelinger only a second year wrestler knocked off 3 wrestlers to make the championship match!

Alec Blume went 2-0 on his way to the finals!

Nolan Klado pulled a major come from behind victory vs Mckim to make the heavyweight final!

in the semi consolation round we have 5 wrestlers trying to wrestle back to third with Sonny McCauley, Tyler Klein, Colin Alexander, Dylan Shank and Tyrell Armstrong all making it to the final six!

At 115 Camryn Grindle survived an early scare after going up 4-0 the middle river kid took the lead 6-4 temporarily until Camryn score 8 straight points before putting away the match earning another pin fall and the 115lb title!  

Going into 122 our 2nd year wrestler Patrick Sidlinger who wrestled a very tough tournament and matched up against a defending tournament finalist kept the match within reach only down 4-O in the third period before going for broke with his infamous sidelinger roll which didn't quite work on this seasoned veteran and Patrick came away with a very impressive 2nd place!

Next up Alec Blume was to come and he hit a couple gator rolls and finished his match with a pancake crank that secured another 6 team points and moved us into 5th place only 2 points Out of third place which meant a win at heavyweight and we walk away with the 3rd place statue!   

Nolan showed a lot of heart going back and forth with his opponent and held a 6-4 lead with 57 seconds to go before getting rolled and caught on his back which ended our push towards the podium.   Nolan still finished an impressive 2nd place! And the team ended up 5th place!

its easy to critique the last one who wrestled and say if this or that but the reality is 29 wrestlers were entered into this event and a quite a number of guys can take the blame who under wrestled their seeds!  As I've been saying all year this is when it matters most and that all these matches, tournaments and events require a complete effort in order to succeed, the league is too competitive to give a half effort and wrestling is unforgiving!  Luck very rarely makes the difference it's the effort that is the key and we had a lot of partial efforts at this event and that was the Difference between being among the top and being mediocre!

A great day of wrestling filled with some memorable moments from start to finish.  The Team finished in 7th place among this top notch field ahead of cross town rivals Middle River and Fallston.  We had 6 wrestlers made the awards podium on this early March Saturday!

 

The recap:

William Bressner (0-2 DNP) although William was knocked out early he gave the eventual champion the closest match of the day only losing 4-0 and then came up a takedown short of knocking off his manchester opponent.

Zach Dell (0-2 DNP) had a winnable second match but came up on the short end and hopefully gained some valuable experience.

Colin Alexander (0-2 DNP) came up 1 match short of placing not a bad showing for a second year wrestler.

Austin McCauley (0-2 DNP) actually had a respectable match in his elimination round and hopefully will come back next year with the proper motivation!

Tyrell Armstong (0-2 DNP) lost our first brutal loss of the day while up 3-2 got pinned and eventually lost his next match hopefully will come back next year with a vengeance!

Dylan Shank (0-2 DNP) had a legitimate shot to win his first match but came unglued and made an early exit!

Pat Sidelinger (1-2 DNP) Had the most brutal loss of the day in the qtr finals after having a 4 point lead with 12 seconds left somehow got put on his back with a mixer of all things and lost 9-8 then must have been still worried about that defeat and lost his next match 1 short of placing. Probably the best wrestler in the tournament who didn't place.

Hunter Yoakum (3-2 / 7th Place) had a solid performance lost a couple close matches but was right there and improved from last years outing and finished the season with 41 wins!

Nolan Klado (3-1 / 3rd place) wrestling with a torn meniscus showed alot of heart and technique Nolan scored 45 points in his 3 wins an absolutely amazing number for heavyweight and avenged his loss in last weeks league championships vs Middle River.

Camryn Grindle (4-1 / 3rd place) got better as the day went on and finished up the day with 2 pins to finish with bronze and end one heck of season and junior league career, camryn finished the season with 53 Wins!

Sonny McCauley (4-2 / 5th place) picked the right time to shine and ended the day with an amazing come from behind win securing a pin vs the vipers with less then 10 seconds to go down by 4 points!  Another example of wrestling to the final whistle!

Tyler Klein (5-1 / 3rd place) what can we say about Tyler he is a pinning machine chalk up 5 more today 3 of them vs former state place winners after bouncing back from another one of our brutal losses blowing a 4 point lead with 30 seconds left in the qtr finals!  Tyler takes third breaks the single season wins record with 54 on the season and shattering the single season pins record recording 48 pins this year!  Tyler may be back for one more run next year to try and add a state title!

Alec Blume (3-0 / STATE CHAMPION) we crowned ourselves a State Champion today a feat that will go down in the perry hall wrestling lore!  congratulations on capping it off and bringing home the CHAMPIONSHIP!

William Bressner represented Maryland well at the Nuway Nationals in Michigan defeating wrestlers from New Jersey, Indiana and Ohio to finish in 2nd place!

Highs and Lows: Unforturnately in wrestling only (1) guy walks away from the season satisfied with the result of his last performance, that is the Champion. Everyone else must reflect on what more they could have done to have been that guy.

Wrestling (at least at the higher level) demands so much emotion that when your on top it's the highest of the high, but the dissapointment is crushing when you face defeat.

Our wrestlers battled through the elite and made their team and families proud while wrestling with honor. This tournament which marks the end of our season has over the years had many, many moments of glory for us, while at the same time brought us to our knees......

This year we saw the ending of (2) junior league careers as Robin Paguia who has been a phenom, placing each year in the State tournament. Robin wrestled great this year hitting a tough patch near the end but finished up like a champion taking 4th place beating the MJWL Champion, AAWL Champion and Last Years State Runner-Up in what had to be one of the toughest weight classes in the tournament, Robin will excell at the highschool level without missing a beat next year.. Robin finishes his jr. league career as #5 on our ALL TIME WINS LIST.

Patrick Downey who came to us this year, a longtime Golden Ring wrestler had another great year he finished the season with only (1) loss in Maryland on his way to the MJWL Regional Title and taking 3rd place at the Maryland / Virginia States. Patrick will be attending the storied Mt.St.Joe program next year where he should be a key to that potent lineup...


Shaun Murphy. The best junior league wrestler that I've ever coached has been there year in and year out, never cracking, never waivering. He over the years has been the only wrestler that I have never been nervous about during matches, He seems to always do the right thing at the right time. He is always in the right position and on the attack. Sometimes we take for granted his precision. But even HERO's Fall sometimes and as I think here what to write my emotions are still shook up over what had happened (see Shaun, who is 1 of the original 4 and the LAST of my first group of wrestlers, hasn't lost a Maryland Tournament match since 2002, He is the best I've ever coached and is revered among our league as one of the best kids in it. When other teams, coaches, parents around maryland hear the name Perry Hall. Immediately Shaun Murphy is at the top of thier minds.... Shaun was on a tear and looked as though history was going to be made, Shaun going into the Finals was on a 7 match win streak against the states elite allowing only 2 points during those matches........ But even Giants falter on occasion and Shaun came up a little short despite his best effort. These kind of losses really bother me because I replay over and over what could have been done different or what decision should have been made that wasn't...... It's hard to take and I know if you can deal with it and learn from these type of set backs you will come back twice as strong.

Shaun Finished the season as the Md/Va State Runner-Up now a 3x Finalist Twice The STATE CHAMPION and a 3x MJWL Champion and All Star (this would probably be enough for most kids and their parents for a lifetime.)

However I know Shaun is dissapointed and that's what makes him a true champion..... NEXT YEAR I've Made a vow that SHAUN WILL WIN THAT 3rd TITLE, He will always be the best in my eyes and I have been honored to have known and coached him.

NAVY / LEHIGH TOURNAMENT Results:

The Punishers placed all 5 OF It's Wrestlers in the Top 6 and will advance everyone to next weekend's Md/Va State Championships at Hayfield High School;


Leading the Charge were our 2 Champions,

Patrick Downey was by far the best Heavyweight in the Tournament, the former Golden Ring Wrestler who will be attending Nationally ranked Mt. St. Joe next year is finishing his junior league career with a flury, Patrick went 4-0 over the weekend recording 3 falls and a technical fall over the MJWL all-star selection. This is after taking the MSWA title the week before.


Mr. Perry Hall Shaun Murphy claimed his spot in Perry Hall History becoming only the 4th Wrestler in the long line of Tradition to Win 3 MJWL Titles the other three were Bill Gialamas, Chad Votta and Rico Chiapperelli. Shaun wrestled an Awesome tournament and did not allow a Point against him capping the final match with a punishing 6-0 beating of his opponent.


Robin Paguia made his second consecutive Finals Apperance taking 2nd place. Robin has had a few tough weeks in a row and if he can straighten it out before Saturday should be a favored to make the State Finals.

Andrew Huber our Heavyweight Rookie found his way to the HWT Finals taking second place beforing losing to Mckim's Shaquille Barrett (Who's brother was HS National Champion) Next week could bring home some more hardware.

Nathaniel Moskunas THE FUTURE OF PERRY HALL WRESTLING finished in 6th place wrestling some very competitive matches and improves each time he's goes on the mat.............. Nathaniel may end up our best ever? Time will tell.....

Wrestling Season is about to get under way and William Bressner has already been taking to the Mat hitting some pre-season open tournaments.

 

He wrestled at the UMBC retreiver open last weekend and went 3-0 taking Home the 60# championship.

Kyle Zhong placed 4th at 70lbs while Ian Budny went 1-2 on the day.

Welcome to wrestling, as many of you found out today wrestling is tough!   And for our veterans you have a little idea where you stand at the moment and what areas you need to improve on!   I think it was a good experience regardless and it's the first event of the season we have a long road ahead so every practice it is imperative that you give it your all so that you can turn that into success on match day!

The Recap:  

Black team had some struggles vs the Host team which could have been expected in the first match of the day but we did get a few match winners from Saharsh Buddula, Justin Stever, Lucas Thompson and Dimitri Papavasiliou gaining the black team 15 team points!   Then the black team headed upstairs to the exhibition room where they got some valuable mat time!   For the new guys the more mat time and experience you can get the quicker you can improve!  The Black team is on a bye next week so you have the next 2 weeks to sharpen your skills before the next event on 12/14 at Franklin vs Mt. Airy B, Northwest and Lansdowne. 

An additional note, The schedules are done months in advance of the season because the teams are subject to school availability and permit aquistion. The point is the order in which you get certain teams is sort of random and when teams are divided into certain divisions back in September, It is not an exact science and to try and predict how good teams will be 3 months prior to the season based predicted weight classes is sometimes not accurate. The point is the Colts team looks to be a very very good team, they beat Mckim and Our Blue team today which were both big upsets.  So for your guys on the Black team it looks like you got your toughest match in week 1.

Blue Team Was a day of mixed results with some highs and a few lows sprinkled in!    We should all understand after today why it's important to be at the right weight class!  If we aren't I'm forced to juggle the line-up and doesn't allow us to match up the way I want to all the time!    Here is the thing with weight management that I find absolute fact! (If you put in the work to maintain and/or cut weight with working out or dieting or running off the water weight and go to all that effort it is very unlikely that on match day you will go out and lay an egg.  The reason for this is because you are far to vested to do that!  Noone with any reasonable sense is going to go to all that trouble and then not give 100% effort!). With that being said when and if we get where we need to be then success will certainly follow!

 

vs Mckim we actually had the match won before we have to forfeit the last 2 weight classes so the final score was 37-46 but we actually wrestled really well in the matches we wrestled.   Wins were earned by William Bressner, Brad Lintz, Marquis Kemp, Nathan Winters, Nathaniel Moskunas, Ian Budny, Patrick Sidelinger and Cruz Cespedes!

vs HFG we struggled by did get some good performances Zach Dell edged out a state qualifier with a 4-3 match, Nathan Winters, Ian Budny, Hunter Yoakum, Patrick Sidelinger and Nolan Klado all recorded pin falls and William Bressner defeated a state place winner by 6-1 score

Vs Arden we got the team victory by a score of 47-40 with wins recorded by William Bressner, Hunter Yoakum, Patrick Sidelinger, Ian Budny, Nathaniel Moskunas, Nathan Winters, Cruz Cespedes and Dylan Young

Other Individual Highlights were turned in by Ian Budny who was a "B" team rookie last year started off his season with 3 victories and looks to be an almost certain lock for the Most Improved Wrestler this year.  Also Patrick Sidelinger jumped off to a quick start recording (3) victories on the weekend.  As well as newcomer Nathan Winters who wrestled last year for Northeast Cecil County began his Punisher career winning his first 3 matches.

Next Sunday the Blue Team travels to woodlawn for 4 matches vs manchester a & b and woodlawn a & b we will be discussing our plan for the line-up on Tuesday at practice!

 

Wrestlers of the Week:

Blue Team:   WILLIAM BRESSNER 3-0 (1 win by pin and 2 decisions one of which over a state place winner)

Black Team:  DIMITRI PAPAVASILIOU 1-0 (11-10 victory over HFG in first match of career)

 

A Good day of wrestling on a snowy Sunday afternoon as the Punishers traveled to Woodlawn for 4 matches.

The day began vs Manchester Navy where it started rough as our first 4 got knocked off before Zach Dell pulled out our first of 10 straight wins in route to a 60-31 team score!   Individual wins recorded by Justin Stever, Marquis Kemp, Nathan Winters, Ian Budny, Malachi Fowler, Hunter Yoakum, David Cole, Dimitri Papavasiliou and Patrick Sidelinger.

Against Machester Lehigh we lost a handful of close matches and when it was all said and done we found ourselves on the shortend of 54-26 score!  Individual Highlights included wins by Dylan Young, Ian Budny, Malachi Fowler, Hunter Yoakum and Patrick Sidelinger.

In match number three The Punishers squared off against Woodlawn Navy and jumped out to a quick start with first period pins recorded by Cruz Cespedes, Dylan Young, Bradley Lintz, Zach Packer, Kyle Zhong, William Bressner, Zach Dell and Justin Stever.   Then after a close decision loss Ian Budny, Nathan Winters, Malachi Fowler, Hunter Yoakum, David Cole, Dimitri Papavasiliou and Patrick Sidlelinger added to the team score and the Punishers were victorious by a score of 84-3!   Nolan Klado also picked up a win at heavyweight!

In the final match of the day Perry Hall went up against Woodlawn Lehigh in a match that we were a big underdog going into based on the last few years results.   However that's why you wrestle the matches!  Our Black Team wrestlers who came to wrestle today really helped us fill the lineup and were a major factor in our 47-40 upset win!    Dylan Young started us off with a pin followed by William Bressner at 60 earning a tech fall to start it 11-0,   After Zach packer picked up a forfeit and Kyle Zhong recorded a pin the score was 23-0 heading into the heart of the woodlawn lineup.   We forfeited the next 2 weights and then had to hit their buzz saw and woodlawn retook the lead 30-23!  Nathan Winters and Malachi Fowler put the punishers back on top 35-30 before Ian Budny gutted out a tough match which he lost 15-5 in a back an forth battle making the score 35-34 with 4 matches left!  At that time the realization of a coaching error by woodlawn because he hadnt considered we had the next 4 weights covered and he could only cover 2 of them which made it mathematically impossible for woodlawn to win the match!   After Hunter Yoakum and Dimitri Papavasiliou recorded their victories it was simply academic at that point and the Punishers pulled the upset 47-40.   David Cole recorded a come from behind win in an exhibition bout to finish the day!

Incidently the 1972 Dolphins will be cracking the champagne tonight because all our wrestlers are no longer undefeated!   Now that we got that out of the way it's time to work on getting better the rest of the way!   Next week is the busiest weekend of the year!!!!

 

Tough wrestling at Loyola as 9 of the top teams from around the state saw action on 4 mats for 5 rounds of competition!   The Punishers had 2 weight class champions both going 4-0 on the day!

others who saw action were Brad Lintz who lost 2 of his matches on points and new comers Liam Alexander and David Cole who had to courage to wrestle at such an event!

 

 

The Black Team wrestled at Franklin on Saturday or atleast those who showed up did.   We created this Black team this year to try and get more kids matches during the season.  It's unfortunate that we don't have full participation.  Needless to say with 5 starters not in the lineup the team had no chance of winning any of the matches.   It is very important that if you are a starter on either team BLUE OR BLACK that you attend the events.  Every event we do costs money and I hate to waste money on things.

The highlights on Team Black for Saturday were Saharsh Buddula and Matt Slebzak recording (3) wins each,  Dimitri Papavasiliou picked up (2) more wins while Justin Stever, Kyle Muller, Ben Packer and Zach Packer All recorded (1) Victory.

First off THANK YOU to ALL the Parents who helped and contributed to our cause to make our annual christmas tournament a success your efforts are much appreciated and neccessary to maintain this great event.

 

At the annual Little 20 christmas tournament the Punishers placed 15 wrestlers into the top 6 in their respective weight class and finished in 2nd place as a team among this tough 16 team tounament.

 

Again several members of the Black team were no shows and this is very troubling moving forward for the remainder of the season.

 

Highlights of the Day:

William Bressner successfully defended his 2012 Little 20 Title and is now a 2x LITTLE 20 TOURNAMENT Champion as he went 4-0 on the day.

Hunter Yoakum placed 2nd do the defending MJWL Champion in one of the best matches of the tournament falling by a 4-3 score which ended with a questionable stalling violation that was not called.

Colin Alexander picked up a Silver medal at 110lbs.   Cruz Cespedes and Dylan Young provided light weight domination by both finishing in second place at 50lbs and 54lbs respectively.

Coming in 3rd place was Heavyweight Nolan Klado and Ian Budny at 103lbs.

Malachi Fowler brought home a 4th place medal at 110lbs. while Pablo Thompson and Patrick Sidelinger finished 5th. rounding out the Punisher Place finishers were Luke Venable, Justin Kavanaugh, Andrew Hemler, Nathaniel Moskunas and David Cole took home 6th place in their weight classes.

Great Job!

With almost all our 1st and 2nd year kids at the Rhino Round Robin and missing 4 starters to illness it looked like a tall order to fill at Hereford!

 

But the "excellent eight" stepped up to the plate and performed well vs Hereford all our wrestlers won starting with Dylan Young then William Bressner and Zach Dell followed next by Marquis Kemp, Nathaniel Moskunas and Ian Bundy picked up pins! Then closing it out were Hunter Yoakum and Patrick Sidelinger en route to a very close 44-36 victory!  Next up Boys Latin who had some holes as well and again all 8 of our wrestlers won their weight classes as the punishers won 48-12!   In the 3rd match we just had to many holes to overcome the forfeits but William Bressner, Marquis Kemp, Hunter Yoakum and Patrick Sidelinger all recorded victories!

 

12/22 Howard County, Maryland

The Punisher combined team traveled to the Annual Viper Duals for 4 rounds of competition! In the pool rounds Perry Hall started the day off against Williamsport in an epic battle Dylan Young started it off with a 14-10 decision and William Bressner scored a pin fall in the light weights but the Williamsport boys would not go away as the jumped out to a 30-9 lead before the Punishers kicked it in gear and won several closely contested matches all of which would turn out to be critical to secure the team victory!  Marquis Kemp won by pin, Nathaniel Moskunas squeaked out a 8-6 win, Ian Budny needed overtime to pull out his match 6-4 followed by Malachi Fowler who secured a 10-4 decision!   Then Hunter Yoakum and Rookie Dimitri Papavasiliou both secured pins followed by Pat Sidelinger who gutted out a tough come from behind 12-8 decision which made the 39-42 going into the heavyweight match where our friend Nolan Klado would not be denied and secured the pin to carry the Punishers to a 45-42 victory!

In the second round The Lightweights shined against the Md Eagles out of Gaithersburg as Dylan Young, Brad Lintz, Zach Packer, William Bressner and Zach Dell all recorded pins to start us out to an early 30-12 lead, next Justin Stever pulled out a 6-4 decision another member of the black team who played a critical role in the outcome of this match as did Ian Budny who secured a fall before Nolan Klado and Pat Sidelinger closed things out with a 48-36 team victory!  

Match 3 was next against Damascus where the rout was on from start to finish match winners were Dylan Young, Brad Lintz, William Bressner, Zach Packer, Zach Dell, Nathaniel Moskunas, Justin Stever, Marquis Kemp, Ian Budny, Colin Alexander, Pat Sidelinger, Dimitri Papavasiliou, Hunter Yoakum and Nolan Klado As the Punishers prevailed 81-18!

The Punishers were 1 of 4 unbeaten teams heading into the placement round and matched up against Navy Junior League for a chance to secure on of the three team Trophies.  It was a tough match but the days earlier matches had the Punishers sharp and ready!   We started off at 80lbs and traded pins back and forth up to 130 as Zach Dell, Marquis Kemp, Nathaniel Moskunas, Malachi Fowler and Hunter Yoakum got victories as the score was 30-24 before the Punishers reeled off 4 Straight with Dimitri Papavasiliou, Pat Sidelinger, Nolan Klado and Dylan Young which made it academic at that point as the Punishers lead 50-30 with 4 matches remaining ment navy would need to secure 4 straight pins to win William Bressner stopped that although in a losing effort 5-3 but did not give up the fall, the final match was an explanation point as Zach Packer hit a come from behind mixer to finish our day on a high and secure the victory and a final team score of 56-39!

The Punishers went 4-0 on the day but lost the overall Title due to criteria of most total points scored but did bring home the Silver!

A solid performance was turned in at the Manchester tournament as 9 out of 12 wrestlers advanced to day 2 and the Placing rounds:

Wrestling for 3rd/4th will Be Zach Dell, Marquis Kemp, and Patrick Sidelinger

Wrestling in the Championship Finals will be Cruz Cespedes and Nolan Klado.

Dylan Young wrestled well winning 2 matches but didn't quite make the placing round and Brad Lintz turned in a solid day 1 performance as well!

Hunter and Malachi had to miss due to illness but would have done well!

Cruz Cespedes earned Silver in his first trip to the manchester holiday tournament at 50lbs!

Zach Packer won 4 matches over the weekend to earn 5th place at 65lbs.

William Bressner finished in 6th place at 60lbs.  While rookie Marquis Kemp earned 3rd place at 90lbs!  2nd year wrestlers Nathan Winters and Ian Budny earned 6th and 5th place respectively At 90lbs and 107lbs

Zach Dell another 2nd year wrestler had a strong showing finishing 4th at 85lbs! As did Patrick Sidelinger at 140lbs.

and Heavyweight Nolan Klado also turned in a strong performance as the runner-up!

After today's beat down we have secured last place in Eastern Baltimore County for the 2013-2014 season for the league Dual Meets,  Injuries, bad luck and bad performances all contributed to it!  Unfortunately the scoreboard doesn't lie!  We have 8 weeks left to get things right!

 

Highlights of the day -  Ian Budny and Dylan Young both got 2 wins!  Marquis Kemp also got 2 wins on the day. And Cruz Cespedes won his only match of the day.

Perry Hall came home with (7) Individual Titles and (4) Runner-up Finishes at the Tom Dicarlo Novice Championships at Overlea

The Regular Season Wrapped up this past weekend with the Blue Team at Damascus and Black Team at Woodlawn.

OVERALL we had a decent regular season the splitting into 2 teams probably cost us some team matches but on the other hand it got twice as many wrestlers a full slate of matches which should bode well for the future.

 

So far this season the team has a number of team and individual accomplishments.

 

As a team we finished 2nd place at the Little 20 among 15 teams.
At the Viper Duals we went 4-0 finishing 2nd due to the overall points tie-breaker
At the Punishers duals we went 4-1 and finished in 3rd Place.

Some of the highlights of the weekend were Nolan Klado winning the heavyweight title keeping the streak alive for our team with 4 consecutive years with at least 1 Champion!   Hunter Yoakum finished 2nd for the second time,  Malachi Fowler had to be the biggest surprise of the tournament winning 3 matches on the way to 4th place,  Cruz Cespedes took bronze, Ian Budny placed 4th, Patrick Sidlinger came back strong on day 2 taking 3rd, while Dimitri Papavasiliou and Nathan Moskunas showed a lot of heart placing 6th,  William Bressner taking 3rd in the tournaments toughest weight class was very impressive William went 4-1 avenging 3 losses he had earlier in the season in a bracket where 2 state place winners didn't even make it to day 2!

 

 

Congratulations to the 8 Wrestlers who took the challenge to compete at UMBC over the weekend.

We had some good performances and a few dissapointing finishes which of great concern to me, we have a bad habit of not finishing matches and blowing leads in the third period and it's up and down the lineup.  the harsh reality is that until you get tired of the same old result it isn't going to change, and it begins with mental toughness which right now we are lacking.  Once that is obtained then the sky is the limit but in the meantime it's going to be tough sledding and the same old same old!

 

HIGHLIGHTS:

Kyle Zhong went 3-1 and took home 3rd place

Nolan Klado and Patrick Sidelinger went 2-1 finishing with Silver

Ian Budny finished 3rd, and Hunter Yoakum took 4th.

Brad Lintz picked up a win in the wrestle backs.   Cruz Cespedes caught a tough draw and lost his only two matches and Zach Dell was winning both the matches he wrestled for 7 and a half minutes but ended up losing both in the final seconds,  much the same thing Hunter did but since hunter did manage a win he ended up placing.   Another knucklehead thing that happened was Nolan attempting a headlock in overtime which predictably wasn't going to work to cost him the championship!

 

As I told everyone the last two weeks get it out of your system before the important events come.

MARCH 22nd at WAYNESBORO RESULTS: 

Ian Bundy went 0-2 losing his second match in a close 5-0 decision

Dylan Young dropped his first match 8-2 but stormed back winning his next two by 18-2 and 5-4 to place 3rd

 

NEXT WEEKEND AT SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY THE GROUP OF SIX WILL BE WRESTLING IN THE WEST REGIONAL FOR A CHANCE TO MAKE IT TO THE EASTERN NATIONALS IN MAY!

 

 

 

3/30/14 - WEST REGIONALS AT SHIPPENSBURG

THIS IS THE ELITE,  ALL THE WRESTLERS WHO MADE IT TO THIS WERE THE BEST 3 OUT OF 8 QUALIFYING DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS!  Needless to say there are no easy matches here.

DAY 1:

Cruz lost a tough 2-0 match in the round of 16,   Dylan lost his round of 16 match 8-1,  William Bressner won his pigtail round 7-2, then lost a very tough 2-1 match.  

DAY 2:

Nolan opened up with a 10-2 loss in the round of 16

The Story of the event was Patrick Sidelinger who made up for his State tournament meltdown coming in as the S3 meaning by seed he was ranked in the 16-20 range,  but proving the point of no easy matches.   Patrick hit a come from victory to knock off the CM2 in the round of 16,  then in the qtr final round (which put him in double elimination) he upset the CV1 to move on to the semi final round where he lost a tough 5-1 match to the S1.   Patrick has made it to the final six and will attempt to advance against the S2 in the next round where he's in a do or die to make it to nationals!   

 

Patrick finished 5th having to go for it do or die in the elimination match,  still a hell of a tournament! 

 

At Mt St. Joseph's the year end State Championships for the 5 major junior wrestling leagues was held!

 

The Punishers qualified 7 to the big show including Ian Budny, Malachi Fowler, Cruz Cespedes, Nolan Klado, Patrick Sidelinger, Hunter Yoakum and William Bressner.

 

Malachi had an incredible run last weekend making it to this tough event but came up a little short but finished a good last half of the season and may be back for big things next season.

Ian won his first match 7-2 avenging an earlier loss and then fell to the eventual 3rd place kid in the qtr finals,  them in the wrestle backs he dropped a heart breaking 2-0 overtime match vs a Navy wrestler coming up 1 match shy of placing.

Patrick kind of had a let down after winning his first match he fell apart and lost his next two coming up a match short of placing and capped off an otherwise great season but has a big monkey on his back at state tournaments hopefully he can overcome this at the high school level.

 

Hunter wrestled a very good tournament going 4-2 finishing in 4th place against a very tough field.

Cruz went 3-2 on the day and brought home 5th place Cruz win or lose always does so in exciting fashion!

 

Nolan made it the championship final but lost to the Mckim wrestler he defeated last weekend still a very good season and end to a good junior league career.

 

 

William also went 4-2 and beat some top notch competition on his way to 4th place and locked up the Team Highest Wins total on the season!

 

As a team we finished 13th out 56 teams that had qualifying wrestlers.

 

 

Brandon Gain continued his winning ways over the Holiday Break securing a Second Place finish this weekend to add to a 4th Place finish last weekend in (2) tough tournaments in Pennsylvania.

Brandon has recorded his 20th win of the season and is the first PH Wrestler to do so this year.

Bradon has shown the dedication and committment it takes to improve and excell. Great Job!

Manchester Novice Tournament:

First can anyone guess who's in the picture?

Great Job by our Dedicated Wrestlers that made the Journey to Hampstead where Maryland Wrestling has a rich and honored tradition!

The Punishers gained 3 Titles through out the day!

First Off JT Weller took the 65lb Championship with 2 Major Decisions....and If he stops looking at his MOM between periods he may become a superstar!

Second was Gordon Reilley who completely out classed the field! His 2 first period PINS gained Gordie the 90# title in dominating fashion!

Surprise of the DAY was Kyle Pennewill who gained 2 pins and won the HWT Title including coming behind from 8-0 in the FINALS!

Tyler Klien won 2 matches in dominating fashion coming back for 3rd place after a tough first round loss!

Cullen Jones made the FINALS and brought home 2nd Place, going 1-1.......

Patrick Mrubu came back and dominated his consolation match to take 3rd place after losing his first one to Cullen Jones!

Josh Tetlow went the distance twice coming up a little short but took 5th place.

Jake Tetlow also finished 5th and had a match in hand before letting it slip away!

Hunter Yoakum took 4th, and would've took 3rd had he not spotted his opponent a 5 point lead before deciding to start wrestling!

LEARN FROM THESE SCREW UPS GUYS! AND TRY TO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN!

Quad Meet :

The day started off rather well against MCKIM, due to a forfiet we lost the match 45-41 close tough battle where many wrestlers did well.......lots of come from behind wins which shows courage and determination and a will to not give up!

The last match of the DAY against Westminister, showed the exact opposite................. A total lack of energy and will was shown and as a result we were SHUT OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 12 YEARS! I was embarrassed to say the least!

As was said in the hall after the match and what has been talked about and preached day after day you all need to look within yourself and put forth a maximum effort each match, each practice, each takdown, each shot, each standup, each push up and so on! It is not by luck or chance that you become good at anything!

IT"S FROM HARD WORK! Period!


On another topic: Hygiene and Cleanleness........... Ringworm is on the horizon, You have to take extra steps that includes dissinfectinng your shoes, head gear, clothes and bodies after each time you wrestle including practice! skipping these steps leaves you volnurable to contracting a skin infection! They are very hard to get rid of, so the best thing is to stop it before it happens!

We cannot control what the other teams do and despite our best efforts we still are not 100% in the clear! BEWARE and TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS!

THIS IS SERIOUS!

On SuperBowl Sunday, It seems the TEAM CAME DOWN with What I'll CALL THE PHANTOM FLU!!!!!!!! It has always seemed that alot of parents think the season wraps up in Mid-January uneventfully for some crazy reason? Perhaps the Season drags on too long? ALthough we've only had 7 events so far and with only 2 remaining I can't really imagine that's the case? but oddly enough this is time of year that it starts to fade. You can see that in practice, as the 21 dropped to 14 regulars now it's 10-11.........Perhaps there are too many practices?? Maybe we should do like "ball sports" and stop having practice once the season starts? I wonder how that would turn out?

Miserable Turn Out for a match.................1/2 the team was absent....for a wide range of reasons that I'll not go into or harp on needless to say team wise it's pretty impossible to win when your missing 6 weight classes..........


Match against the LANSDOWNE GATORS WENT RATHER WELL for Those who were There,

Wins were realed off by Tyrell Armstrong, JT Weller, Hunter Yoakum, Raquan Parker to jump out to 24-6............Then 3 Forfeits in a row, which we'd have won 2 of those 3 had we shown up tied the match up.........Cullen Jones recorded a Pin to Put the Punishers back on top.......before the Gators Pulled it out in the end winning the last 3 bouts............

WOODLAWN REMATCH WENT PRETTY ONE SIDED but JT Weller had a competitive match as did Chris Moskunas, Kenneth Lyles was up by 4 before his opponent was disqualified............. and Hunter Yoakum got his second win of the DAY!

NEXT WEEKEND IS AN OFF WEEK, And the REGULAR SEASON WRAPS UP AT WESTMINISTER THE FOLLOWING WEEK!

Tyler Klein continued a current streak where at least 1 Perry Hall Junior League Wrestler has reached 20 Wins on the season which dates Back to the beginning of our programs Record keeping........(1976)......

Tyler finished 2nd place last weekend at the Montgomery Open Tournament getting his 19th, 20th and 21st Wins on the Season! ALL OF TYLER'S EXTRA WORK AND MATCHES HE'S GOTTEN THIS YEAR WILL AND HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE! He's gotten an extra Year of MAT TIME IN FROM HIS EFFORTS AND NEXT SEASON Will Be the Equivelent of a 3rd year wrestler! YOU CAN ALREADY SEE THE SEPERATION IN PRACTICE COMPARED TO THE OTHER KIDS HIS SIZE!

Westminister Maryland Our regular season wrapped up with the DOUBLE DUAL MEET vs Reisterstown and Westminister......

FINALLY some guys look like they are coming out of there shell and into their own........

In a rematch vs Wesminister from last month in which we were shut out.....The Punishers won 6 matches and scored 24 Team Points!!!!!

JT Weller, Tyler Klein, Cullen Jones, Gordie Reilley, Kyle Pennewill, Hunter Yoakum, Tyrell Armstrong all recorded wins.

In match #2 It came down to the last match.........and if (AND THERE ARE ALWAYS IF's) a guy made a certain weight (KENNY), or a guy would've wrestled 3 periods instead of 2 (GORDIE) and three others would've shown up (NATHANIEL, CHRISTOPHER AND PATRICK) We would have BLOWN Reisterstown out of the GYM.

IF WE CAN GET THESE GUYS TO SHOW THAT ARE HALF HEARTED IN IT! Next year should be a grand success.......

ONE THING IS CERTAIN for you DOZEN OR SO THAT KEEP ON GETTING IT...You are all getting better, even JOSH is showing at least signs of life and irritation.....AT LEAST HE CAN NOW BE PROVOKED, (WHICH IS THE START!) The fact is the Better you all get and lock in your spots on the team..... THE OTHERS WHO COME IN #1 should improve quickly and the ONES who show up when it's convienent.....will find themselves knocked out of a STARTING SPOT and will be replaced in the line-up which eventually benefits the team........... (WHEN THERE IS NOONE THERE IN THAT SPOT EAGER TO STEP UP, Then they have the luxury of doing there own thing....) I'm feeling like those days are rapidly disappearing........

Excellent work to start off the season winning 47-41 vs Lansdowne and Losing a fairly close 42-24 Match to Mckim despite having 3 Wrestlers missing.

65lb. Noah Michael wrestled well winning his first and second matches by 10-2 and 9-7, Noah Looked in good form, Noah Lost his semi final match to Middle River but is good position tommorow and has a chance for 3rd. On day 2 Noah opened up with a win by final making the consolation finals, In the last match Noah started off great taking a 2-0 lead then late in the third period down by 2 he got caught but still ended up taking home 4th PLACE

80lb. Tyler Klein a tough outing he had 3 tough matches winning the 2nd and losing the 1st and 3rd both of which TYler dominated but somehow got outscored. It's a tough way to end a season.

100lb. Matt Wagner won his first 2 matches convincingly and is over 20 wins this year, In the Semi's Matt had a 4-0 lead and got caught in a roll and lost a heartbreaker, Tommorow Matt has 2 more matches and a shot at the bronze. Matt came through on Day 2 winning both his matches in convincing fashion to come away with 3rd place. He won 8-0 and 8-3 in his final 2 matches.

105lb. Matt Galinn did pretty well winning his first match by pin and then losing to the #2 wrestler in md, then a close 3rd match that with a little more experience may have went the other way.

105lb. Mario Niotis was a noshow again!

110lb. Gordon Reilley ended up in a very tough weight, he went 2-2 losing to the 1st and 5th seeds, and beat the 9th and 10th.....maybe next year things may turn out different.

115lb. Mike Haley was a noshow again!

165lb. Jake Tetlow is still sick in the hospital we wish him a speedy recovery.

200lb. Kyle Pennewill in the final match of the day stole the show by pinning the #2 seed when losing 13-2. Kyle finished in 2nd place

Pat would like to say hello to all of his supporters back home in Maryland. He's been training hard for the 2012 Olympic Trials and the FILA Junior National Championships and hopes to earn a spot on this year's Junior World Team.

The MAWA SERIES BEGINS WITH 32 district tournaments held in various locations across the middle Atlantic from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, Maryland, New Jersey and Connecticut where the top 3 place winners advance to 1 of 4 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and if you can place in the top 4 there you get to compete in the Prestigous MAWA EASTERN NATIONALS!

At the MD QUALIFIERS we had 3 wrestlers advance

WILLIAM BRESSNER FINISHED 2nd at Annapolis Christian

HUNTER YOAKUM AND CAMRYN GRINDLE FINISHED 3rd at River Hill

All three advance to the SOUTH REGIONAL at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury on April 14/15!

March 31, 2012 Central York High School - Qualifier for Ohio Tournament Of Champions and a Tune up for SJWA WAR ON THE SHORE NATIONALS.

Hunter Yoakum was one of about 15 wrestlers from Maryland who participated including wrestlers from Middle River, Mckim and The Warhawks. Hunter Wrestled in (2) divisions where he took (1st) Place at the JUNIOR HIGH 100# CLASS and finished (4th) at the Intermediate 100# Class going 4-2 on the day both losses were very close matches including a Overtime match. Hunter recorded 3 of his victories against Pennsylvania Wrestlers.

The Punishers took to the Mats over the weekend at the Old Mill Invitational putting up a great performance.... Robin Paguia won the 77# Title on Sunday after a 4th Place finish at the Bel Air Tournament on Saturday, Robin recorded his 74th career win going 6-2 over the weekend.

Zach Dwyer was the 52# Champion and the 57# Runner-Up going 5-1 in (2) Divisions.

Zach Regester took 3rd place at 92# going 4-1 on the Day.

Brandon Gain recorded the 4th place finishes at Both the Bel Air and Old Mill Tournaments becoming the first wrestler to reach 25 Wins this year.

Matt Swiger placed 4th in a tough 82# Field going 2-2.

Kyle Pennewill placed 3rd at the Bel Air Tournament going 2-1.

Nathanial Moskunas took his first match at the Attacker tournament before dropping a couple tough matches.

Punishers take to the Mat over this weekend at Lansdowne High School for the 2005-2006 Season Openers:

While alot of guys didn't show or make weight the ones who wrestled did well.

The Punishers won 4 of 7 Matches vs Dundalk and Parkville and took 6 of 7 against host Lansdowne

Individual Standouts:
Robin Paguia 3-0 With 3 Pins
Matt Swiger 3-0 With 2 Pins and a Tech Fall
Brandon Gain 3-0 With 2 Pins and a Major Decision

Other Match Winners included
Zach Regester and Nick Vipperman getting thier first wins of the season, Mike Seglinski took 2 out of 3 matches, Adam Alls recorded a win along with Jake Tetlow.

Little 20 Results

Perry Hall Hosted The Little 20 Tournament this weekend at the PHHS this was a team event with 16 teams participating, We finished 6th.

Individual Performances included
Matt Swiger going 4-1 finishing in 3rd PLACE.

And Brandon Gain won our only Championship winning 4 matches in the Tournaments Toughest weight class also becoming the Events Outstanding Wrestler.
