Nick Ham - Director/Head Coach VPBC 12U

Spring 2024 brought another successful season for Coach Ham at York High School. Coach Ham's Falcons brought home its first baseball state championship for the school since 1989. The playoff run included regional wins over Norcom, Colonial Heights and county rival Grafton. On the way to winning the state title the falcons defeated Brentsville, Pulaski and undefeated Liberty Christian Academy. Spring 2023 was Coach Ham's first season as the Varsity Head Coach at York HS. In his first year in charge of the program, he helped turn around a 3 win regular season team the year before into a 17-7 Bay Rivers District Champion. In 2023 Coach Ham also had the special privilege of coaching his son's York County Little League 9-11 All Star team that won a 2nd District 7 Championship in as many years and improved on its 2022 top 4 finish by winning the 2023 Virginia Little League 9-11 State Championship.  In 2018, after taking summer coaching off for a handful of years, Coach Ham started the Virginia Peninsula Baseball Club in the fall of that year. The first full summer/fall class of VPBC players began in 2019. Coach Ham has been involved with baseball on the Peninsula since graduating from Christopher Newport University in 2006, where he was a member of the Division 3 National Runner Up team in 2003. Prior to CNU, he played at CD Hylton High School in Woodbridge, VA, where he led the Bulldogs to a AAA State appearance in 2001 and posted a career 13-3 record as a varsity pitcher. Coach Ham then pitched 2 seasons for CNU before pursuing educational opportunities in the form of a Georgetown University Law Center undergrad internship and semester abroad in Valencia, Spain through UVA’s study abroad program. Following graduation, Coach Ham began coaching in the Virginia Diamonds AAU program. He would go on the help lead the Diamonds as an assistant and head coach to 4 AAU Virginia State Championships from 2007-2010, an AAU National Runner Up finish in 2007, an 8th place finish in 2008 and an AAU National Invitational Championship in 2010. The Diamonds would also claim other titles, including the 2010 Buckeye Elite Showcase held annually in Columbus, OH. Coach Ham was also an assistant coach at perennial Peninsula District contenders Woodside HS in Newport News, VA from 2007-2022.

Brian Gould - Coach VPBC 14U

Coach Gould, a current Varsity Assistant Coach at Woodside HS is an original member of the VPBC staff. Prior to coaching the current team, Coach Gould helped guide and mold the original group of VPBC alumni in 2019.

Jordan Sprouse - Coach VPBC 14U

Coach Sprouse provides an abundance of baseball knowledge accrued over his playing days at Grafton HS and Virginia Wesleyan University. At Grafton, he was a member of the Clippers' VHSL Class 3 State qualifying team in 2014. While at VWU, Coach Sprouse played all 4 years, including a junior year campaign in 2018 where he helped lead the Marlins to a 31 win season and an appearance in the Divsion 3 NCAA Mid Atlantic Regional. 

Phil Melillo - Asst Coach VPBC 12U

Coach Melillo, a native of Ohio, is also an assistant coach at Hampton High School. 

Emory Chopp - Asst Coach VPBC 

Coach Chopp is from Newport News, VA. He grew up playing for Coach Ham in the Virginia Diamonds organization from the time he was 13. He played at Menchville High School as a pitcher/utility 2009-2013 and was first team all district pitcher as a senior. Coach Chopp went on to play at Div II Chowan University as a pitcher/infielder from 2013-2017. He was a member of the first conference championship team in Chowan’s school history in 2016. Coach Chopp has been a member of Peninsula District power, Menchville HS, coaching staff on and off since 2018.
