William Galatioto (Bill), attended the NYCTHA's January date with his son, Nick. John Power introduced Bill and Greg to each other, knowing that they both are originally from Buffalo, NY. Later, while practicing on a table hockey game, Bill recognized the name around the boards, "Kevin Reardon." Bill and Greg discovered they had a mutual friend. Kevin grew up across the street from Greg. Bill went to high school with Kevin. And, as a side note, Kevin was an avid table hockey player in the 1970's and has recently attended two major tournaments in Canada, Johnny Good Guy 2005 and 2007.
Bill and his son attended the February and March dates. In total he played in five round robins. His play improved steadily. His winning percentage rose from a low of .333 to a high of .500. He also narrowed the gap in his goals against and goals for differential. He averaged a seventh (7) place finish for each round. Bill finished the Regular Season in 10th place of 21 players. After the playoffs, Bill moved up two more positions to finish the year ranked 8th of 21 players.

PLAYOFFS
At the NYCTHA Playoffs, Bill played in the double round robin play-in round. Six players competed to determine, which three would move up and join the five players who'd earned byes into the Elite (top) Division.
Bill Galatioto, in ten games played, won seven, lost three, finished first among those six players and earned the sixth playoff spot in the Elite Division.
In the Elite Quarter-Finals, Bill (6) was matched up against Greg Scoma (3).
In game one, Bill scored first and second, going into the last minute or so of play with a 2-0 lead. An own goal (a fluke) and a quick goal by Greg tied the game. With seconds to go, Greg scored the game winner. Like game one, Bill played strong and had command of game two, yet lost. While Bill lost the Best of Seven in four games, his first two games demonstrated the improvement in the skill of his play. Closing out games in which he is leading should be one of his priorities as he continues in the sport.

However, Bill wasn't done for the day. The four players losing their Elite Division Quarter-Finals game would drop down a division and comprise the First Division's Semi-Finalists.
In the Best of Seven games, First Division Semi-Finals, Bill was matched against Len Mecca (5).* Bill again played a good series. Unlike the previous series where the strategy and tactics required to close out games while up in the score, in this series the issue became closing out a series while up in the series.
In game one, While Len averaged 2.30 goals against in the regular season and Bill 2.16 goals for, Bill sheared out seven goals against Len. He scored seven goals beating Len in the first two games of the Best of Seven. But, Len convincingly won game three and then won game four.

Bottom line, Bill improved from the day he walked in and continued to improve through the playoffs, taking Len Mecca to six games. We very much look forward to Bill and his son Nick's bright future with us next season!
