A BIG . . . no . . . GIANT THANK YOU to
Our Crafton Celebrates volunteers!!

Celebrates is a major undertaking for C.I.T., which had the main food booth and the majority of the game offerings for the kids to play during this year's three-day celebration.
We sincerely appreciate the help of our parents and players who help run the games or take orders and serve food.
It is such a huge fundraiser, and it would not be successful without YOUR help, but it would be easier if more of our parents did just a little bit to help make the load lighter.
Next year, please help for just 90 to 120 minutes . . . it makes it easier on everyone if we all do a little.

A special thanks to Sam Strohm and Nicole Calabrese for recruiting and organizing
the majority of our game booth volunteers . . .

So, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to these people . . .

Sam Strohm, Tarla Strohm, Bill Moldovan, Terri Messner,
Jamie Spadafora, Karen Taczak, Steve Taczak, Dave Yuhas,
Brian Aldridge, Bob Bazeck, Jim Benke, Coleen Bluman, Chelle Kroll,
Kim Castellan, Gina Carini, Nia Knittel, Alyssa Ensworth,
Ayla Kennelly, Dawn Castellan, Debbie Donaldson, Lexi Donaldson,
Eric Glover, Jennifer Glover, Wendy Hart, Josh Trefelner,
Scott Thompson, Donna Thompson, Adia Snyder, Sara Klein,
Jeff O'Brien, Tracy O'Brien, Tabby Coppola, Joe Schultz,
Michael Calabrese, Nicole Calabrese, Michele Calabrese,
and especially Will Campbell who worked not only for C.I.T.,
but worked on the entire Celebrates' set-up as well
. . .
and
hopefully we didn't miss anyone, but if we did,
THANK YOU for helping out with this major undertaking!

2012 COW DROP WINNER . . .

Sylvia Pixley of Ingram Borough, sold by Pauline Ogden of Crafton Borough.

(This is Pauline's second time as our winning seller!!)

This year our little calf, Cowboy, trotted around the field of 1260 squares for about 20 or 30 minutes, then lifted his tail and dropped his plop on grid square AA-28. He was a pretty enthusiastic little boy, prancing around the open field while his pals, a donkey, llama, mini-pony, and a few lambs and goats were corralled in the petting zoo being bottle fed by the kids. There was also a pretty little horse for pony rides!

Autumn Fest & Cow Drop 2013

C.I.T.'s 2013 Autumn Fest & Cow Drop was an enjoyable day for all in attendance.  Beginning at 12:30 with the coaches v alumni game and continuing with games and prizes for the kids, a scavenger hunt, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and Cow Drop, the day ended at dark with a beautiful bonfire and marshmallow roast.  Those who were there had a GREAT time.  Those of you who were not, well, you missed out on a GREAT time!

Congratulations to Greg Davners of Steubenville, Ohio who won this years' big event!  The winning ticket was sold by Greg Lovaglia & Joe Perrott.  Also congratulations to the DeVries family who won the android tablet.  Players who sold five cow drop tickets had their name put in a raffle.  There were 36 tickets eligible.

Special thanks to Umpire Joe Q for graciously offering his services to umpire the coach/alumni game.  The alumni won 5-4.  There were a lot of moans and groans afterward from all participants.  Apparently they're all out of practice!!!

Following is the "Winner's Circle" . . . names do not appear on all, but the sellers' names do!  If you know your seller and have your ticket number, check it out . . .

Thank You, Chip Herrmann!

The 2008 C.I.T. season will have an obvious void while Chip takes a 'leave-of-absence' from the Association. After twenty-three or more consecutive years of service to C.I.T., from coaching and managing, through league vice president and director, to fundraising director, CHIP HERRMANN has become a fixture of C.I.T.! His beginnings go back even further, to his own baseball playing years, and his dad coached him even then! There is a lot of activity happening and travel in store for Chip this year, including the marriage of his daughter. And even with all that's going on, he's still doing whatever he can to help C.I.T. this year! So, we wish Chip and his family our Best Wishes, and we hope he knows how much he'll be missed!
And when you're at Major league try-outs, or practices, or games, and there seems to be something different . . . something missing . . . well, now you know, it's Chip!

Information You Should Know as a C.I.T. Member!!!

Get those gears working and think about the following:
Meyer & Middleton Park and the property upon which it sits are NOT municipal properties! Most of our neighboring communities have great fields which are owned by their municipalities. Ours are not! We do, however, use the municipal fields located in Crafton Park and Ingram's Foster Park. Also, the Meyer & Middleton property was NOT donated, and therefore, is NOT paid for.

This acreage was purchased in 1997 and developed into the existing ballfield complex during the years of 1998 and 1999. The grand opening and first season occurred in April 2000. As the demand for field time grew and the availability of the proper-sized fields lessened, it became apparent to those past-board-of-directors that something needed to be done! Hence, the development of Meyer & Middleton Park's five-field complex.

The sizable debt which was incurred is NOT paid from your child's registration fees, but rather from the many FUNDRAISERS which C.I.T. holds annually and hopes that you kindly support. Actually, we NEED your support! That is why it is so important for you to help out when asked, whether in the concession stand, selling tickets, working a booth, or whatever is required! Your child's regular season registration fees are merely a portion of the costs incurred with uniforms, umpires, balls, league fees, equipment, and other items which are directly related to your child's regular season of play.

To cover the separate expenses incurred with tournaments, the all-star players' fees are priced separately before the tourney season begins. That fee helps to cover uniforms, entrance fees (which are constantly escalating), balls, etc. Fees are based upon the intention for each team's participation in C.I.T.'s own in-house tournament for that age level, and permits the team to travel to two outside tournaments.

Fall-Ball is also priced separately and economically. The fees collected for this two-month season offset umpire fees, league fees, and game balls.
The fee does not provide uniforms. If you know a company willing to sponsor your child's team, please see a Board Member in the concession stand!

Pittsburgh Pirates'
FIELDS FOR KIDS Program
In May of 2009, C.I.T. completed and submitted an application to the
Pittsburgh Pirates' Charities FIELDS FOR KIDS
for a matching funds grant.
On July 15th we received a congratulatory letter from
the Pirates informing us that C.I.T. has been awarded
a Pirates' Fields for Kids Grant, and commending us
for our commitment to youth baseball and softball.

Just before the season began, C.I.T. purchased and spread
100-tons of infield mix on all five fields at Meyer & Middleton Park.
During the season we received donations from
GNC Live Well, D&D HICKTON, WOLBERT's and Jim & Katie Leyland toward the matching funds for the grant.

Once again, many thanks to THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES for this opportunity! And, of course, to our generous donors who helped reach the matching funds quota.

Each year we hold a fundraiser
we fondly call a ‘Cow Drop.’
We really never drop a cow
but watch for his/her poop plop!

We always try to use a calf
because grown cows are so lazy.
The big ones walk onto the field
and stop . . . like grazing on daisies!

Last year we used little Midge again.
She’s small even though part Brahma.
Her papa must be Brahma bull,
But I wonder, what’s her mama!?

We lined a field of many squares
which are each assigned a number.
Then Midge ran loose to romp and play.
They never let her slumber!

After walking all around the field
and stepping on each grid square,
Midge finally stopped and raised her tail,
Holding it in mid-air.

Hooray! Yippee! She dropped a plop
of poop upon the grid!
We checked the chart to see who won.
“Hey, Midge! You did good kid!”

Her job was done; she did her thing
While we all stood to cheer!
Back to the petting zoo Midge went
Until this time next year.

We hope you’ll come and join us
‘Cause it really is such fun!
So, be sure to get your ticket ~
It might be the winning one!

Update on Ethan Loney

Some of our C.I.T. families and many community friends attended our Benefit Bonfire for Ethan Loney last November. (The residue is still largely apparent in the parking lot of Meyer & Middleton.) We recently inquired about Ethan's health. At the Bonfire, his parents, Ken and Kelly, who arrived later in the evening with Ethan and Sarah, said he was doing well and had received a favorable report from his doctors. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
Please keep the entire Loney Family in your thoughts and prayers. It seems Ethan is losing his battle with the neuroblastoma cancer. God apparently has something greater than this life in His plan for this baby boy. May his family find strength in the caring of many to endure this challenge.

COW DROP CONGRATULATIONS . . .

CONGRATULATIONS
to Chuck Cetera of California (yes, California!)
sold by Shirley DeFalco

We've always said it doesn't matter where the tickets are sold! This is the first "out-of-state" winner we've had to date. Past winners have been from Crafton, Carnegie, Moon, Mt. Washington, Robinson, Swissvale, and a few from places unknown!

Our little cow, Midge, who is now only one-and-a-half years old, made her second appearance to the C.I.T. Cow Drop Grid. After a shy start of being coaxed to meander around the grid field, Midge finally relaxed and started trotting around chasing her trainer around the grid, well covering the entire 1500 blocks! She did a lot of tail-swishing, but no other activity during the first 45 minutes. Then, a pause, a swoosh of the tail, a drop and a plop! A nice little mound was left on O-8. Please see the 25-square grid to see if you were anywhere near Midge's drop!

WHY THE GATE AT M&M?

For the third time in less than a year, the fields at Meyer & Middleton Park have been damaged by someone driving through or around at least two fields. The first time, Wheat and Kowatic were damaged, besides doing donuts in the parking lot; field damage was $3600.00. The second time they drove through outfields of ECSI, Deluzio-Schempp and between the fields, past the front of the candystand, and out the far end of the property; damage was repaired with minimal expense. This third time, there were a multitude of donut tracks in the parking lot, plus the infields were spun through on both Kowatic and Deluzio-Schempp; damage to both fields has been estimated at almost $5000.00!!!
So, if you're wondering "WHY THE GATE?" at the top of Jerry James Way leading down to the fields . . . well, unfortunately, it is necessary to prevent trespassers from damaging the fields where your kids play ball.
We apologize to our member families who are, and will be, inconvenienced by the gate. At this time, we encourage you to practice with your children at the community parks in Crafton and Ingram.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you should acquire any information about those who are responsible for this latest damage, please call Crafton Police or President Mike Calabrese, 412-922-7808.

An unfortunate incident . . .

concerning the
50/50 DRAWINGon Friday, April 30th

During the Canevin/Carlynton Game, two young boys sold the 50/50 tickets.
Ticket sales only totaled $10.00.
It was relatively busy in the stand, especially since President Mike Calabrese had to
suddenly leave the complex and he always handles the 50/50 money.

A Canevin patron or parent, and one of the coaches caused an unnecessary scene
in the candystand, accusing us of not pulling the ticket and keeping the money.
Demanding their money back, saying "Just get it out of your little candystand box,"
Coach threw his tickets on the counter and was given his $3.00, and
the other man threw his tickets in the candy boxes and was given $5.00.

Unbeknown to Terry, who was running the stand, the total was actually $12.00 and
the 50/50 HAD ALREADY BEEN PAID OUT by Mike before he left to tend to an emergency!
So, let it be known that C.I.T. not only paidthe 50/50 split of $6.00, but the little candystand box gave out
MORE THAN C.I.T.'s HALF OF THE GROSS 50/50 TO THE CANEVIN FOLKS.

DRIVE CAREFULLY . . .

Players . . . Coaches . . . Spectators . . .
The road isn't getting any better!!!
As you travel to and from the ball fields, please DRIVE RESPONSIBLY.
Remember, these are neighborhood streets where children may be playing, seniors may be strolling,
or families out walking the dog! We appreciate your consideration at all times!

Our Sincere Thanks . . .

to JANNA CROWN as C.I.T.'s
Director of Fast-Pitch Softball . . .
We appreciate her efforts and
regret that she has decided to resign her position.
We wish her well and thank her for her interest in the fast-pitch girls and C.I.T.
