History of the G.R.A.A.

(As written by Daniel Jesse Mays from the book "100th Anniversary of Sports in Glen Rock.")

In the fall of 1945 the people in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania were excited to say the least. A few months earlier the Japanese had surrendered and WWII had ended. Many Glen Rock verterans were at last returning home. The "town folk" and veterans yearned for the "good old days" of baseball and basketball in town and working together they did something about it.
The baseball diamond beside the high school on Maple Hill had no grandstand and dimensionally wasn't suitable for good baseball. The last town team basketball team to play in the community building was the 1940-41 team. The former baseball field in the meadow at Centerville was abandoned since 1934. Mr. Paul Seitz of People's Bank let it be known that it was possible to get a deed to that land if the town had an organization to deed it to. There was already talk about re-establishing the old Southern York County Baseball League and the season would open in the spring of 1946. Needless to say the time was perfect for the birth of the "Glen Rock Athletic Association" and was organized in 1946 and has continued to exist to the present day.

The first Board of Directors of the GRAA were: John Decker, President; Furhman Grove, Secretary-Treasurer; Earl Deffendall; Harry Geiman; Sam Adams; Ellsworth Rudisill and "Park" Rohrbaugh.
