About the  Select Program

The Select program was developed by USA Softball to allow high-performing girls to play together IN ADDITION TO playing on a spring recreational team. Girls must be registered for the spring season to be on a Select team, and they must continue to attend their rec team practices and at least 75% of their rec team games. Select is not designed, in any way, to replace spring recreational play. USA Softball governs the Select season and has strict guidelines for all Select teams.

"Select" has sometimes been used loosely to apply to any high-level competitive team. But Select actually has a very specific definition and calendar defined by USA Softball.

Select schedule: Select teams are allowed to operate between Jan. 1 and early April. They can only practice and/or play together once a week, typically on Sundays. (Additional days per week are sometimes allowed in early January, prior to the formation of spring rec teams.)

Selection Process - TierraCanyon board would like to provide to those players interested in a more competitive level of softball (similar to “travel” ball). This is known as the select team. The select teams will be drafted for 8U, 10U and 12U divisions only (in the event the league has a team or teams in the 14U division, this division will also be eligible for the select team). Interested managers must submit their interest to the  VP. The VP will submit the candidates to the board for approval. In the case of more approved managers than teams for their respective divisions, the Executive Board will vote on the Manager. In the event of a vote at an Executive Board meeting said vote will be conducted by secret ballot and counted by no less than two board members who are not connected to the division being voted on. In the event of an E-vote, votes will be collected and counted by someone not connected to the division being voted on.

On or after assessments the select team(s) will be formed. The selected Manager picks their team from the list of interested players. Managers of Select teams will be responsible for registering their teams in any tournaments or scheduling any “friendly” games. All costs associated with the team (i.e. uniform, tournament costs, travel costs, etc) will be equitably split between all players on the team. Select teams will receive no financial assistance from the league. Players participating in the Select season will also need to be registered for the upcoming Spring season. On or by the beginning of April, during the Spring Rec. season, the select team(s) will disband.
