PAL 16U National Team - Blue Knights

A Suffolk Tradition since 1980

The Police Athletic League's 16U National travel baseball team has been competing for three decades! The "Blue Knights" is an elite 16-year-old tournament team that continues to be a program that exemplifies the excellence of baseball in Suffolk County. The team participates in 4-5 tournaments throughout the summer, and practice as we strive to continue our players progression through high school baseball and beyond. Our coaching staff is proud of the efforts of our players and we look forward to watching them grow as players and young men.

2007

In 2007 the 16U National Team, the "Blue Knights" was turned over to Steve Corrado. The first year was an excellent learning experience for the new coaching staff. There was only one player that returned from the previous season so we basically had to build a team from scratch. The team that came together, jelled well and really took off towards the end of the summer. The squad had 18 players appear in games from eight different Suffolk school districts. The very first tournament as a team we lost in the finals of the Triple Crown - Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. In late June we won the RYO Tournament 4th of July Tournament by going 5-0 and beating our opponents by a combined score of 48-12 over the course of the weekend. In early August we traveled to Placentia, California to compete in CCYB World Series. The PAL Blue Knights represented Suffolk County, the PAL and New York in fine fashion. The Blue Knights made it to the playoff round and were the highest ranking non-Californian team in the 16U age group!!! We handed the eventual champs their only loss of the tournament and their first loss in over two months! Our final tournament of the summer was the Labor Day Championship at Baseball Heaven that we won with a 4-1 record. We finished the season with 20-10-1 record and high hopes for future success.

2008

In 2008 the 16U National Team, the "Blue Knights" took on a different look as nine 15 year-old players made the squad. The new additions coupled with returning core made for many expectations for the summer. After a 3-3 start the Blue Knights heated up winning nine straight games before heading out to California. In late June we won the ECTB - USSSA World Series Qualifier in Orange County, NY going 5-0 and averaging over 10 runs per game. The next tournament was the In the Net - ECTB Summer Slugfest near Hershey, PA. That weekend we went 4-0 before rain denied us a chance at the championship game and we placed second due to runs allowed. In late July we traveled to Placentia, California to compete in CCYB World Series. The PAL Blue Knights represented Suffolk County, the PAL and New York in fine fashion. The Blue Knights made it to the second playoff round only to lose to the eventual tournament champions. Our final tournament of the summer was the ECTB -8th Annual National Championship Series, Allentown, PA and the Blue Knights did not disappoint. Our team went 4-0 and made it to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual tournament champs. We finished the season with a 19-8 record and looking to maintain a strong core that could provide for success in 2009!
