Basketball Program Information
General Basketball Program Information & Classifications
The 7-16 Select Basketball League programs accommodate teams and players that are prepared for a more competitive level of play. The Select leagues consist of preformed teams which may participate in SDNBP Select league play as well as various tournaments throughout the year. Select basketball is available at 3 progressive levels of play: Select, Elite and Premier. For details on the classifications please see the Basketball Program Information page. Metro BasketballThis is our recreational basketball program. Players are registered individually and the league forms the rosters based on their age group and by considering the player's school, subdivision, and general area. Our "Metro" coaches are volunteers from our community and they establish their own practice times and locations. Games are played Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays. Some may be scheduled for weekends. Weekday games are scheduled for 6:00 PM or 8:00 PM for ages 12-16, 9:30 AM or 1:30 PM for ages 5-8. Saturday games are scheduled throughout the day. Forfiet games are not rescheduled. SDNBP Metro League rules require minimum playing time for each player.
Friendship Teams
The Metro Friendship Team will allow a coach to bring a core roster of 8 to 10 players into the "Metro" league and the league will back fill the remainder of the team. The goal of the Friendship Team Program is to allow friends (scouts, church, neighborhood, private school, etc.) to play basketball together. Friendship Teams will not be formed by recruiting higher skilled players from other teams or by holding player tryouts. There are strict guidelines in place regarding the formation of these teams and the SDNBP Basketball League will closely evaluate and approve all Friendship Team rosters to protect the integrity of the Friendship Team concept. The purpose of this approval process is to reduce the chance of a Friendship Team outclassing the other "Metro" competition. These teams must maintain the full spirit of the program or risk being reclassified as "Select" as deemed appropriate by the SDNBP Basketball League.Select Basketball
SDNBP conducts Select basketball league seasons in both the Winter and Summer in Select and Open (Elite and Premier) levels. The 7U and 8U divisions are for teams that have been playing together for more than a year, club teams, elementay schools, middle schools teams competitive players with confidents and rule knowledge, with the 9-14U programs players participate in more strict rules and competitive progression. All registrations for the Select programs are handled through SDNBP.
