Rules and Regulations

 

 

 

Ladies Division 2019

 

 

 

1. Games played at Percy & Turner start at 6:15 pm.

 

    Games at Buxton, Merlin or Grand Pointe start at 6:30.

 

    90 minute time limit on all games.

 

 

 

2. No infield/outfield warm-up after the first inning and no ball on the diamond in between innings.

 

 

 

3. Regulation games will be nine (9) innings. Six (6) innings or 5 1/2 if home team will constitutes a complete game for standing purposes.

 

 

 

  1. In a nine (9) inning game the mercy rule is 15 runs after 6 complete innings or 5 1/2 innings if home team is ahead.  The home team will not get their last bat.

 

 

 

  1. In a seven (7) inning game the mercy rule is 10 runs after 5 complete innings, if you are home team 4 1/2 innings. The home team will not get their last bat.

 

 

 

  1. The Mercy rule is in effect for playoffs.

 

 

 

4. Teams must bat all players that come equipped to play.

 

a)  All players present at the game will bat in the order listed in the scorebook.

 

b) Players arriving after the first pitch will be added to the bottom of the batting order.

 

c) If a player has to leave the game for any reason other than an ejection, that player is scratched from the line up and the next player moves up.  The player that has to leave is NOT an out.

 

d) There is a six (6) run cap per inning.  The last inning is an open inning with no cap on runs; a player must play two complete innings per game to be considered as one game played.

 

 

 

5. TIE GAMES – one (1) extra inning will be played using the International tie breaker rule. If the game is still tied, each team receives one point (season only). SPO International tie breaker rule is last official batter goes to 2nd base with no outs to start the inning.  The International tie breaker rule is also in effect for playoffs and is used until the tie is broken and a winner is determined.

 

 

 

6.  The commitment line is used.  The catcher will have control of the plate and the runner will cross the 10 foot line in order to score.  If the runner touches the plate or mat, the runner is out. A runner cannot be tagged out between the commitment line and scoring line. This is not an appeal play. This is at the discretion of the umpire.

 

 

 

7. Courtesy Runners - three (3) courtesy runners per game. 

 

 

 

8. Home team is the second team listed on the schedule. Home team will occupy the third base bench and is responsible for:

 

a) Supply game balls and putting out the bases 15 minutes prior to game time.  If the home team does not have the bases they are given ten (10) minutes to produce the bases or the game is forfeited.  NOTE: the visiting team has the option of supplying the bases and take home team advantage. If the visiting team does not choose that option there is no penalty to the Visiting team.

 

 

 

b) Report the scores to mmalone@postmedia.com Chatham Daily News, bweedon@cogeco.ca Bob Weedon, and Ann Laprise diamondladiesslopitch@yahoo.com  by 10am the following morning of the game.

 

c) This rule applies to season and playoffs.

 

 

9. a) Each team will be given one game cancellation without penalty only when given at least 24 hours notice of the need to cancel a game.  If another game day cancellation or a forfeit occurs a penalty will be applied. This penalty will be considered a fine to the team who cancelled or forfeited only after they have been granted their one cancellation without penalty.  If you need to cancel a game, call or text Gloria Dorner 519-360-6224 or text Ann Laprise 519-809-0390 or email us at    diamondladiesslopitch@yahoo.com  

 

 

 

9 b) Should a team need to cancel a second game during the regular/playoffs, provided more than 24 hour notice is given, no financial penalties will be incurred by the team, however, a loss will be recorded.

9 c) In the case of a rainout or cancellation, teams must be prepared to play the following Monday or Wednesday based on diamond availability. Rainouts can be scheduled as double headers, consisting of two (2) seven (7) inning games or the next meeting of both teams could be played for double the points.  If a decision is not agreed upon between both teams involved one week prior to the scheduled next game, the teams will pay a double header. .

 

 

 

10. TEAM UNIFORMS - 

 

 a) All team players/coaches that go on the diamond must wear team shirts (uniforms).  Failure to do so is a $10.00 fine. Uniforms are defined as shirts with the registered team name. Proper footwear is required on the diamond.

 

 

 

b) Any player, coach or manager must return all equipment and uniform in good order if switching teams. A player will not be released from a team until the equipment is returned to their original team if requested.

 

 

 

11. Playoffs – Teams will vote on the playoff format, before season starts (if possible)

 

a) To be eligible to play in the playoffs a player must have played five (5) games of the regular season (consisting of playing at least two (2) full innings per game). If a team protests a player that has not fulfilled these eligibility requirements, said team representative is responsible for gathering the information, not the other team or the exec.  Should a formal protest be filed, the team involved will be required to provide proof of all games played for accused player.

 

Exceptions to the rules are:

 

- Injuries: The Player’s injury must be reported to the Exec.in writing.

 

- Pregnant or illness: This must be reported to the Exec. in writing.

 

- Rainouts or Cancelled games will count as a game played.

 

 

 

b) A tie in the regular standings at the end of the scheduled season will be decided by the Tie Breaking Rule Formula of the SPOA hand book. (spo.org)

 

 

 

12. FINES as per Maple City Slo Pitch League will be applied to teams/individuals

 

- $10.00 for teams not reporting scores to the newspaper

 

- $20.00 for an ejection from the game and a one game suspension (MCSPL Bylaw #10 A).

 

- $20.00 if a waiver is not signed or pro-file is not completed this constitutes an illegal player and therefore the player will be fined and the game forfeited.  (MCSPL 2b).

 

- A second game cancellation if not reported within 24 hours will be a forfeit and the team will be responsible for the cost of the diamond, the umpire fee and $25.00 payable to the League. 

 

When a fine has been assessed and imposed, the team must pay before their next scheduled game.

 

 

 

13. Each team must try to be present at meetings.  The meetings will not run longer than 1 ½ hours.  

 

 

 

14. ROSTERS - In February, a tentative roster will be submitted.  Waivers and final payment must be submitted no later than one (1) week prior to play.

 

a) All players must be registered with SPOA (https://mrs.slopitch.org/Account/Login) online prior to play. (Pro-File)

 

b) Team Rosters held with the Division are the official rosters.

 

Rosters are final as of July16th of the current playing year.  (As per SPOA final date)

 

 

 

 

 

Any additions to a roster for extenuating circumstances must be presented to the Division.  If the addition(s) is/are approved Waivers and fees must be paid and the added player must also be registered with SPOA on-line prior to play. (Pro-File)

 

 

 

Waivers are to be completed for any name change or address change.
