Kings and Queens Bowling

MISSION STATEMENT

We aim to provide a recreational opportunity for special needs athletes to learn and practice bowling skills, social skills, and develop healthy habits.  Our players learn how to bowl, work well in a group setting, increase their physical stamina and make new friends.  We have lots of fun and help our special needs children develop tools that they can use to be positive community members.

WHO

We coach special needs athletes who are Monroe/Jamesburg residents age 5 and up who want to learn a new recreational sport with positive coaching support.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • form teams of two bowlers and match them with two buddies and one adult acting as a supervisor per group
  • teach five specific bowling skills via practice - start position, holding the ball correctly, releasing, scoring, and taking turns
  • teach the basics of proper bowling positions to prevent injuries and aid in conditioning
  • teach good sportsmanship and adaptive skills that will enable the bowler to more fully participate in a recreational manner (IE:  gym class setting or community recreational programs)
  • encourage competition by keeping score every week between similarly-skilled groups
  • finish the season with a trophy day and award certificates for the volunteers’ participation
