Be prepared to be ENLIGHTENED about LIGHTNING. Neal Wallen made this excellent presentation at one of our umpire meetings. It's a must see for all COACHES, UMPIRES, PARENTS, and even PLAYERS.
1. The Plate Umpire gets the score at home, but does not focus on batter-runner touching first, and he totally misses the obstruction on first baseman.
2. Base Umpire does not pick up runner from first until they're right on top of second. Base Umpire always has the call on batter-runner to third. Base Umpire and Plate Umpire both miss obstruction at second base (attempting a tag without the ball), forces, or gets the runner to slide. Obstruction on second baseman.
3. Plate umpire should not be making this call at third base(Base Umpire's call), and the runner should be safe because of the obstructions.
