GAME 1....Bowser Pontiac....7....Klingensmith Insurance....2

That was all winning pitcher Kevin Abraham needed as he had 5 strikeouts and limited Klingensmith to 4 hits and 2 unearned runs. The Twins were lead by Ofchinick (2-2 including a double & home run, hbp, walk, 3 runs & 2 rbi), Rodgers (2-3 including a home run & 2 rbi) and Dustin Watt (2-2 & walk).

GAME 2....Bowser Pontiac....4....Klingensmith Insurance....3

By JOSH YOHE, Daily News Staff Writer....Bowser scored four runs in the top of the seventh to steal a 4-3 victory. Matt Scurfield limited the Twins to six singles through six innings but in the seventh his knuckleball started moving the wrong way. That is when Bowser started thier rally with a bloop single sandwiched by 2 batters being hit by pitches. Jim Onder then drove the next pitch for a two-run single which was followed by a sacrifice fly that tied the game. Up next was Corey Rodgers who lined a single to drive in the go-ahead run. Brad Markovich was credited with the win after replacing starter Scott Manko to start the sixth inning. Manko took a no-hitter into the fifth, but surrendered three runs that inning. Then Jim Onder entered for the seventh inning and recorded the save. Leading the way for the Twins were Dalaine Ofchinick (2-3, hbp & run), Onder (2-3 including a double, run & 2 rbi) and Dustin Watt (2-3 & run). The Pirates top hitters were Luke Pisarcik (2-4, run & rbi) and Dan Cybulski (2-2, run, walk & stolen base).

GAME 3....Bowser Pontiac....12....Klingensmith Insurance....9

Bowser Pontiac advances to the finals after coming back from being behind 8-5 midway through the game. Ryan Gregg's 2 out, 3 run double in the 5th gave the Twins a 9-8 lead that they held the rest of the night. Top hitters for Bowser were Dalaine Ofchinick (2-2, rbi, run, 3 walks & stolen base), Ryan Gregg (3-3 including 2 doubles, 4 rbi, walk & 2 runs), Corey Rodgers (2-4 including a double & 2 rbi), Anthony Miller (2 rbi) and Dustin Watt (2-4 including a double, run & rbi). Leading the way for the Piraters were Matt Scurfield (2-3, walk & 2 runs), Jack Waltonbaugh (home run), Dom Magnotti (2 rbi) and Adam Harkins (3-3, 2 rbi, walk & 3 runs.)

Lloyd's Insurance & Port Vue Pub

GAME 1....Lloyd's Insurance....4....Port Vue Pub....2

By JOHN SANTA, Daily News Staff Writer....Sometimes the difference between a win or a loss can be as little as two throws. Port Vue Pub ace Mike Sikorski learned that lesson the hard way in a 4-2 loss to Lloyd's Insurance. The first ill-fated throw came in the second inning and allowed the Brewers to tie the game at 2 right after Port Vue scored an unearned run of thier own. The second throw Sikorski would like to forget came in the form of a fifth-inning slider. Brewers clean-up hitter George Nahay crushed the pitch to left-center for a two-run homer, giving the Brewers a 4-2 advantage. The lead held up as Lloyd's ace Lou Kammermeier retired the last 14 batters of the game. He had 9 strikeouts and allowed just 5 hits, 2 walks and 1 earned run. Leading hitters for Lloyd's were George Nahay (2-3 including a home run & 2 rbi) and Ryan Moore (2-3). Mike Sikorski went the distance in the loss while giving up only 5 hits and had 6 strikeouts. At the plate, Port Vue was lead by Tom Bazzone (2-3 including a double & a run) and Jeromie McBride (2-4).

GAME 2....Lloyd's Insurance....4....Port Vue Pub....1

By JOHN SANTA, Daily News Staff Writer....For the second consecutive game, Lloyd's pitching was the main factor of the night. This time on the mound it was Pat Donnelly who was dominant during a complete game performance. He scattered five hits, struck out three, walked one and only allowed an unearned run in the 1st inning. Leading the offense for the Brewers were Tim Donnelly (2-3 including a double & home run and rbi), Jake Kostelnik (3-3) Dave Szanca (2-4 & run) and Jim Davis (3-4 & rbi).

GAME 3....Lloyds Insurance....14....Port Vue Pub....2

Lloyd's Insurance pitching continues to shine in 14-2 six inning victory that moves the Brewers into the finals. Nate Remlinger got the complete game win for the Brewers as he limited Port Vue to just 5 hits and 1 walk. On offense, Lloyd's was lead by Ryan Moore (4-4 including a double), Tim Donnelly (2-3 including a home run & 2 rbi), George Nahay (2-3 & 3 rbi) and Matt Stumpf (2-3 including 2 doubles, stolen base & rbi). Scott Dolekary (2-2 including a double, run & rbi) was Port Vue's top hitter.

**FINALS**

Bowser Pontiac & Lloyd's Insurance

GAME 1....Bowser Pontiac....9....Lloyd's Insurance....5

Bowser rallies for thier third straight come from behind post season victory after a shaky 1st inning leaves them in 5-0 hole. The Twins then scored five times in the 3rd after there were two outs to tie the game. Three more runs in the 6th inning sealed the victory for Kevin Abrahan who limited the Brewers to just 5 hits. Dalaine Ofchinick (3-4 including a home run and double, 3 rbi & 2 runs), Shane Eckles (2-4 & run), Jim Onder (2-4 including a home run, 3 rbi & 2 runs), Anthony Miller (2-4, 2 rbi & run) and Ryan Gregg (2 rbi & double) lead the Twins. For the Brewers, Ryan Moore singled his first two times up to give him hits in 6 consecutive at-bats before the streak ended later in the game.

GAME 2....Lloyd's Insurance....3....Bowser Pontiac....2

After pitching 6 innings the night before, Lou Kammermeier insisted on pitching again for Lloyd's. He then held Bowser scoreless until Corey Rodgers 2 run homer in the 6th cut Lloyd's lead to 3-2. Then George Nahay took the mound for the Brewers to start the 7th and recorded the save. Kammermeier limited Bowser to 5 hits and saved his best for the toughest spots of the games. He didnt allow the Twins to score in the 3rd when they had 1st & 2nd and no outs and also stopped the rally in the 6th after Bowser put runners on 1st & 2nd with 1 out following Rodgers homer. Lloyd's top hitters were Matt Stumpf (2-3, walk & run), Brad Yeschenko (2-4, 2 runs & stolen base) and Nahay (2-3 including a double & 2 rbi). Rodgers lead the Twins (2-3 including a home run, 2 rbi & run).

GAME 3....Bowser Pontiac....15....Lloyd's Insurance....1

By JOSH YOHE, Daily News Staff Writer....Bowser powers its way to the cusp of another DNL championship with a 15-1 five inning victory. The usual suspects again carried Bowser. Corey Rodgers was 2-4 with both hits being homers and drove in five runs. Dalaine Ofchinick went 2-3 including a double, was hit by a pitch, scored three runs and drove in another. And Jim Onder homered and walked in his other three plate appearances, scored three runs and drove in three. Also for Bowser, Ryan Gregg (2-3, sacrifice fly & rbi) and Ron Kramer (2-2 including a double, walk & 2 runs). Brad Markovich fought through arm pain in going the distance to get the win for the Twins. The veteran right hander, who thinks he needs shoulder surgery, limited Lloyd's to just 3 hits and 2 walks.

GAME 4....Bowser Pontiac....8....Lloyd's Insurace....6

Bowser Pontiac wins its fourth consecutive league championship. Lloyd's had an early 4-1 lead before the Twins rallied back for the title clinching victory. Down 5-4 in the sixth, Bowser then scored 4 times to go up 8-5. The Brewers fought back by getting 1 in the 6th and had two runners on in the 7th when the game ended. Leading the way for the Twins were Dalaine Ofchinick (2-5 including a double, 2 runs, rbi & stolen base), Jim Onder (2-4, walk & 2 rbi), Kevin Abraham (2-3 including 2 doubles, run, rbi & threw a complete game as the winning pitcher) and Dan Lippert (2-3, 2 runs and 2 rbi). At the plate, Lloyd's was lead by Tim Donnelly (2-3 including a home run, 3 rbi & run), George Nahay (2-4) and Jake Kostelnik (2-4 & rbi).

It’s been over a decade in the making, but Daily News League players will again be taking part in an All-Star game this weekend. Over the past three seasons, the DNL managers have voted for a symbolic all-star team to honor the league’s best position players and pitchers for the regular season. Managers and media recently voted to again distinguish the best of the best in the DNL’s 2008 regular season, but this time around the honor will mean a little bit more. A squad of 24 DNL all stars will face off against the Pittsburgh Over-28 Baseball League All-Star team in a nine-inning game at Winklevoss Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. “It’ll be a competitive game,” the much-celebrated DNL commissioner Nick Donato said. “It’s an opportunity for our guys to play against another league. For the Over-28 League, it’s going to be a chance to showcase their league and what they have to offer.” The last time an all-star game involving DNL players took place was in the mid-1990’s, Donato said. After being spurred into action by many DNL players and managers, Donato began networking with other western Pennsylvania adult baseball leagues to schedule an interleague all-star game when he took control of the league four years ago. Finally after nearly coming to terms with the Federation, Indiana County and Butler Eagle baseball leagues in years past, Donato was able to schedule this year’s game with the 15-team Pittsburgh Over-28 league. “Some might think it’s a bunch of older guys,” Donato said of the DNL’s competition Saturday. “But, what you’ll find is it’s former Daily News League players and current Daily News League stars.” Both all-star squads will be comprised of up to six pitchers, as well as a first and second team of position players based upon voting numbers. Manager for the squad will be Andy Brettschneider, from the three-time defending Daily News League Champions Bowser Pontiac. “It’s a huge honor,” Brettschneider said. “There’s a lot of very good players I’m going to be coaching and I enjoy coaching talented players.” He plans to approach Saturday’s game as he would any other. “Everybody’s on the same page throughout the league,” Brettschneider said. “I know it’s almost playoff time and I’m not there to burn people up.” The intense outlook on the game is because it also provides another special opportunity to showcase what the DNL has to offer, Brettschneider said. “I think it’s a great opportunity to show that the league has an abundance of talent and that there aren’t just a couple of teams that are good,” he said. “It should be well represented by all of the teams.” Saturday’s game will also honor umpires from the 140-member Allegheny Valley Umpire Association. “The selection process I use is with the guys who work the most and the guys who are respected the most,” Mitch Adams, head of umpires for AVUA. The two umpires selected to work the game by Adams are 10-year veterans Mike Breaston and Mark Grant. Both umpires work high school and summer league games and have worked WPIAL and PIAA finals in their careers, Adams said. “They’ve got great people skills,” he said. “They are able to talk to people in different situations that keeps them out of arguments. They are respected by the players and that’s what I go on.”

**Additional Players Named For All star Game**

Daily News League commissioner Nick Donato’s latest and greatest job is done. The votes are tallied and the roster is set for the DNL’s allstar showdown against the Pittsburgh Over-28 Baseball League All-Star team. The game is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Winklevoss Field. The DNL reserves, as voted on by managers and media, include catcher Adam Harkins (Klingensmith Insurance), first baseman Shawn King (Clancy’s Pub), second baseman Matt Watkiss (Clancy’s), third base Matt Scurfield (Klingensmith), shortstop Andy Petruska (Port Vue Pub), designated hitter Tom Bazzone (Port Vue), outfielders Rocky Capobianco (Port Vue), Tyler Dillenger (Elizabeth), Brandon Myers (Elizabeth) and pitchers Lou Kammermeier (Lloyd Insurance), Shawn King (Clancy’s) and Dom Magnotti (Klingensmith). Shawn King and Dom Magnotti were voted onto the team as both position players and pitchers. Joining Bowser Pontiac’s manager Andy Brettschneider as his coaches for the DNL squad will be John Jumba (Clancy’s), Tom Simcho (Klingensmith) and Terry Thompson (Elizabeth). “It’s an honor for the guys we named to the all-star team,” Donato said. “They get to be named all stars by their peers and they get to go out there and represent the league as a whole.” Scott Dolekary (Port Vue), Keith Kuzma (Lloyd's), Shawn King (Clancy's) and Jim Ahlborn (Clancy’s) also made the Pittsburgh Over-28 squad.

**All Star Game Recap**

DNL ALL STARS....7....PITTSBURGH OVER 28 LEAGUE....4

Missing three starters from the lineup voted on by the league's managers didn't stop the DNL stars from getting off to a quick 6-0 lead after three innings. Then with three of the best pitchers from the 2008 season on the mound, the DNL teamed eased thier way to a 7-4 victory. All 4 runs scored by the Pittsburgh Over 28 League team came in the 8th and 9th innings, with 3 of them being unearned. The fast start allowed the DNL team to get all the players into the game by the mid way point. Leading the way for the DNL was Bill Brady (2-2 including a home run, sac fly, 2 runs & 2 rbi), Dom Magnotti (3-3 including 2 doubles, 2 runs & rbi) and Rocky Capobianco (2-4, run & rbi). Kevin Abraham started for the DNL team and threw 4 scoreless innings. He struck out 2 and allowed just 2 hits. Mike Sikorski was next on the mound and hurled 3 shutout innings. He gave up just 1 hit and struck out 3. Dave Koerbel pitched the final 2 innings of the game and got the DNL squad out of a 9th inning jam after a few errors made the score closer than it appeared.
The Pittsburgh Over 28 League team was lead by current DNL star Jim Ahlbourn (2-2). Two former DNL players also helped the Over 28 team, Ernie Furno (3-4 & run) and Jerry Del Canton (2-2, 2 runs & rbi).
