Scoring

Team points are based on the order of finish and are different for individual and relay events.  The values are as follows:

6 Lane Pool

Place 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
Individual 6 4 3 2 1 0
Relay 8 4 2 0 0 0

8 Lane Pool

Place 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th  8th
Individual 8 6 5 4 3 2  1  0
Relay 10 5 3 0 0 0  0

Diving is scored the same as an individual swimming event.  A diver is awarded points based on the judges' scores and the degree of difficulty of the dive  Points after each dive are added to determine a diver's final score.

For relays; points are only awarded to the first 3 finishing relays.  A team may only have 2 relays score points.  If a team swept the first 3 spots in a relay, they would only be awarded the points for 1st and 2nd place.  The opponents would be awarded the points for 3rd place.

A swimmer may be declared as Exhibition in an event.  This means that the can not score points but their time is considered valid.  This is often done when the meet score becomes lopsided.  An example of how this works would be if Pittsford has swimmers A, B, and C swim in a heat where they have swimmers A and B swim exhibition.  If the result of the race is A, opponent 1, B, C,  opponent 2, and opponent 3.  Pittsford would score 4 points (swimmer C would be awarded 2nd place) and the Opposing team would be awarded 11 points for first, third and fourth place.
